  • I thought this performance came out beautifully and I am so excited to finally be sharing it with you! “A cricket sang and set the sun“ was the first-ever marimba solo I learned (in 2019) and I’ve grown to absolutely adore this piece by Blake Tyson. This rendition is a re-arrangement of the piece for 3.0-octave low A octave marimba/malletSTATION as opposed to the 4.3-octave marimba that it was written for. I especially loved filming this one because some of the shots were outside! Also, I’m still so surprised and happy about all the support on my previous performance of “Land” (relatively higher view count, Instagram reposts from both Pearl Drums and vibraphonist Drew Tucker @itsnotaxylophone) and subsequently decided to make it into this mini-series! Enjoy :)
Side note, the poem I recite at the end actually does not have much to do with the piece. The only relationship is that the title of the piece is derived from the first line of the Emily Dickinson poem.

I was placed on MalletStation for marching band this year (I’m a senior).
A little disappointed I didn’t get marimba, but I’ve been wanting to try a MalletStation for a little while, and this is one of 2 videos that inspired that wish. Plus, my high school used a MalletKat in my freshman year, and the MalletStation is pretty much a MalletKat, but better.
Anyways, Wonderful arrangement, Advik. Very well done.

Thank you!! That’s so good to hear; I love when the instrument’s used in a marching band setting, and that this vid is a small part of the reason you enjoy it and were willing to make the most of that opportunity :)
      Good luck with that 🙌

What software did you use to get the marimba sound? I’ve been trying to use studio one on pc but it’s been driving me insane.
