  • Hey guys!
    This video is long overdue but I finally got a chance to do it. I’ll be telling my almost two year experience working at a Texas men’s prison.
    I’ll be giving details on how we had to work, terms we used while working there, and the process of getting hired.
    If you’re curious how a prison works or was thinking about applying, watch my video☺️

    I live in the UK but I hear the exact same thing over and over, that they treat the correction officers like they're serving time too and those in higher positions are abusing their power, and it is your colleagues to look out for not the inmates. Why doesn't this industry learn? This is why they can't get officers to stay. 30 minute break for a high stress, high threat level job is an absolute joke yet they expect you to be assertive and on top of your game at all times.

    Hey Love this video definitely gave me some insight on what I am about to get myself into in Huntsville Texas as well. I just relocated to Texas from Chicago and I am a barber. I love male dominated jobs and environments. I guess my main fear is the time because I am a mom and I dont have any family here. The salary has increased though, its about $3500 once a month for fulltime, and about $1700 part time. Im anxious about being pepper sprayed as well. You made some excellent points on benefits though, I think Im going to stick it out, save for a home and use those benefits endlessly lol and get the hell on. I can imagine it being draining mentally, physically, and emotionally.

      I’m pretty sure the rules are the same. Also depends on what state prison you’re working at. My experience was from June 2018 to March 2020. You’re lucky you didn’t have to do the test. It was pointless and not needed.

    The best thing I love about the agency is the benefits. The one thing I dislike is that you can not ask certain questions because they feel like you up to something. Another thing I dislike is that if you talk to the same inmate constantly then you try to establish a relationship.

    Hello there! I really enjoyed this video. My name is Sheryl but most just call me Trouble and I am currently a correctional officer myself. I was like you. I was very small and didn't know if I could do it, but like you know, its not the size of the dog that matters! I figured I'd share a technique that I still use and would love your thoughts on it. Basically I wanted to come up with a quick way to grab the inmates attention. So what I do is I shout TROUBLE! and when I do, the inmates know they have to drop what they are doing, line up and wait further instructions. The inmates picked up on this really quick. I only had to explain it like once and they respond to it very well. I even did what I like to call "trouble drills" with them to practice. This has helped with count times, searches, when I need to cuff a bunch up etc. I chose the word 'trouble' cause its an easy identifiable word. Plus if I'm shouting it, that means trouble is happening or coming or you(the inmates) are about to be in trouble. Other officers started doing this too which was cool to see. This is how I got the nickname Officer Trouble from both inmates and officers. As a former officer yourself, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. And would love to know if this is something you would have tried had you still been an officer. Thanks for reading and I hope you don't mind the long comment :)

    See that'd always be a problem cuz I already have plenty of friends on several different units- male & female. Cant think of a time I havnt had a friend, X, etc locked up on some unit. And that "they're criminals" bs yeah most of the staff Ive ever known are too they just havnt been caught & all inmates arent "criminals" they just normal ppl who got caught doing something. There is a difference. Knew 2 COs back when I was still in HS in the 90s that both sold weed & everybody I know that works there now has an old HS friend locked up on some unit and/or at least one relative. And anywhere Ive ever worked its been bi-monthly pay except when I worked for a agency then it was weekly but one of them didnt take out taxes which bit my ass when tax time rolled around- and I was getting those once a week plus bi-weekly pay at my full-time job so that was normally around 5-6 checks a month

    • @miss.jadamonet
      @miss.jadamonet  Год назад

      I know the CO's don't be innocent either. I even worked with a couple of them that got walked off by the warden because they were either sleeping with inmates or bringing in drugs. There were inmates that told me they were wrongfully accused or took the fault. I know all of them aren't criminals.

      I worked corrections for 6 months & I realized a few weeks ago this is just not for me. I worked FDC & soon as I was done with the academy my shift captain threw me in a dorm by myself with my roster & equipment that I wasn't even certified to use yet. I was married & I have small children so working a 12 hr shift overnight just wasn't cutting it. On top of the 12 hr shift they required you to stay over at least 4 more hrs so I ended up doing 16 hr shifts instead of 12. I was married for almost 5 yrs happily but due to me not being home & being able to spend time with my family, my marriage didn't make it. I needed to take time off & my captain told me to fill out the request so I did but every time I tried to give it to her she'd say "I'll get it later"🙄... As I type this I am suppose to be getting ready for work & I don't feel bad for deciding to quit. This job screwed up my mental, my home life, is very thankless, & just literally drained me.

Rank didn’t care if you were sick, if you had kids, had medical issues.. they just need you to show up to work so they won’t get chewed out. About 2-3 months before I quit, people was quitting left and right, calling in. Then I realized that the job was making me physically and mentally tired, depressed, anxious & everything under the sun. I left right before covid shut everything down and shit spreads like wildfire in there so that made me wanna quit more. I liked the other officers I worked with, just not who I was working for rank wise.
