Sam just makes so many poor choices that hurt other people more than herself. Every major plot point surrounding her feels like her acting before she thinks- ya know, like a teenager- and then trying to run from the consequences. This is why she clashes so well with Tory who didn't get to grow up rich and protected. Its easy to hate her when we see all the hard things other characters go through and she is 'the rich kid' who slums it with Miguel and Robby and has all the pretty, popular, mommy/daddy money problems. And that is a GOOD thing, she is a dislikable 'good guy' to match Miguel, Hawk, and Tory all being fan favorite villains. We know we're supposed to be on her side, but every time she makes one of those poor choices, it makes us reconsider what side we want to be on.

    • @AaronCabb
      @AaronCabb 2 года назад +11

@@ItsMeBarnaby I think the reason why people find Sam more annoying than Tory is because Tory's bad actions are often in response to legitimate events and facts she witnesses, whereas Sam's actions are based on her assumptions that are often incorrect and unwarranted.
In other words, Sam is very quick to judge others and contradict her own morals, whereas Tory, despite having worse morals tends to be more consistent and act only when she knows for a fact that someone wronged her.
For example, Sam humiliated Tory and accused her of stealing from her mom because she saw her steal something completely different, even after Aisha reassured her that Tory wouldn't and didn't do that. Tory only humilated Sam and accused her of kissing her boyfriend after she witnessed it firsthand.
It also seems farfetched to say that Tory is a psychopath given what we know about her family life, and the fact that Sam was the one that started their whole rivalry by accusing her of stealing from her mom, and assaulting her. Tory was even completely open to them being friends initially.
Sam also harassed Tory at her work where she was more vunerable and couldn't fight back, which is a really low blow. One can definitely argue that Tory's worse than Sam. Sam just tends to contradict herself more and still tries to claim that she's better than her, despite her reasoning for attacking Tory being less warranted often.

      3. Tory nichols mainly started it as even though, sam larusso advised tory it's better not to nick items tory's jealousy response was mocking her own personal religious beliefs and calling her a nun.
      4. Tory nichols shows signs of being mentally disturbed
      5. She's still growing up so they've all got a long way to go
      6. She tried multiple times trying to passively end the fight against others especially in the high schools foyer regardless where the conflict was - tory nichols had absolutely no right morally nor legally binding for what she did

I think what's interesting about Sam when compared to characters like Miguel, Robby or Tory is not that she did the biggest mistakes. All those 3 characters had worse actions, because they involved out of proportion offensive violent acts. However, Sam is probably the character of the show who did the biggest amount of "small" mistakes and, more importantly, she did the in the relationships with a large amount of characters. So if you happen to be a die hard Miguel-, Robby-, Tory- or Aisha-fan who believes your favorite character "can't do no wrong", then Sam becomes an easy scapegoat that you can blame for everything. Even though that's silly and also condescending towards all those other characters. So I think that's one of the main reasons why she is such a polarizing character in the fandom.

Secondly, the Arcade fight happened as a reponse to Cobra Kai first brutally beating up Nathaniel & stealing Miguel's surgery money, Hawk purposely destroying Dimitri's science project and the gang attacking Chris at his work place & almost getting him fired. So while starting the Arcade fight was not the smartest way to go about it and it clearly backfired in a horrible way, I can't really blame Sam for wanting to fight back. Sam kissed Miguel... therefore the fact that he and Robby got into a life threatening fight is her fault. (And I note how rarely they point out that Miguel also kissed Sam.) The character is not my favorite in the show, but I really don't understand the "blame everything on Sam" school of thought. Granted, I dislike Tory as a character in a more active way, so in that particular rivalry, I have a clear pick, but I also don't care all that much about it and use the scenes dealing with it to catch up on my crossword puzzles, so...

"Honestly, a lot of the Sam hate I've seen is less about the character than about the idea that a girl is always responsible for what boys do about her behavior." Sam kisses Miguel while drunk. But when Miguel gets drunk and assaults someone, Sam's blamed for it because she was "tramping" around with someone.

"Sam kisses Miguel while drunk. But when Miguel gets drunk and assaults someone, Sam's blamed for it because she was "tramping" around with someone."
Exactly. And what constitutes "tramping around" in these circles is a little, um, insane. OMG, she was friends with another boy!!!! Gentlemen, grow up. It is not the Victorian era anymore. And the fact that something developed later after the breakup does not retroactively make it cheating at the time. (I kind of hope the show addresses this directly at some point, other than the joke of having the clueless parent at the meeting make the accusation.) I also wish they'd stop saying, "Sam kissed Miguel" and point out that Sam and Miguel kissed each other. It was a stupid move on both of their parts, if an understandable one in the circumstances. They both realized it immediately and apologized to each other. But even if they hadn't, what it justifies is Robby and Tory breaking up with their respective partners and sending them packing... not assault with a weapon. And it's Robby who should have the beef with Sam about it; Sam owes Tory nothing. Tory should have her anger be at Miguel, who _did_ owe her something.

To be fair, I actually I've grown to really love the character especially in season 3. I think she's unfairly hated. Sure she doesn't always make decisions that I agree with, but she seems to be genuinely nice and her PTSD and panic attacks (and even getting her arm slashed) made me sympathize with her. She has a great relationship with Daniel, she clearly loves Miguel (for the most part) and is (generally) protective of Demetri. Plus I can imagine how hard it would be the daughter of DANIEL LARUSSO. If I had any issues with her is that, besides her impulsiveness, he can have a bit of a bystander especially in season 1 with Aisha.
So long story short, Sam's far from my favorite, she'd be #6 in rankings but honestly I respect Mary Mouser's role as Samantha Larusso.

I wish people would stop hating her. She’s not a bad person. She’s a Larusso and the daughter of the film series main hero Daniel. Okay I admit she has her flaws, but come on. She’s skilled in Miyagi Do Karate the longest and she cares deeply for her friends in-spite if they are at odds with her. And let’s not forget, other than Miguel’s recovery to Demetri’s Increased confidence and of course Hawk’s redemption, she’s had the best story arc in Season 3, which mirrors Daniel’s own arc from Karate Kid 3. If anyone deserves hate from the Larusso household it’s Anthony; the one who chooses to relish and exploit the rich lifestyle.

I’m in season 4 right now and from what I’ve seen, each character is shown to not just be pure good or pure evil. The show has made it so that we don’t necessarily hate any of the characters. Even a character like Kreese has decent qualities to him in spite of his manipulative tendencies and to a certain degree maybe even cares about his student like Tory. In the case of Sam she has to be the most gray of gray’s due to a few of the bigger conflicts stemming from her choices. Dimitri getting his arm snapped, Tory and the Cobras starting a ballroom blitz at school with Myogi-Do, Robby being pissed enough to almost kill Miguel, and her along with Johnny and Daniel being responsible for pushing Robby to the Cobra Kai’s. What I said might not be fair but in the context of the show, having a prodigy like Robby side with the enemy was one of the biggest mistakes on her sides part.

    Reasons to love Sam:
    1) She tried preventing Yasmin from bumping into Johnny's car by telling her that she shouldn't be on her phone and she came clean to her mom about it and apologized, even though it was Yasmin's fault
    2) she refused to take no nonsense from kyler the minute she saw his true colors
    3) when yasmin and moon didn’t want to talk to her anymore, she didn’t apologize for something she didn't do just to keep them as friends, she smack talked yasmin like a boss
    4) she wasn't upset about Miguel being jealous; she was upset about Miguel trying to start a fight with Robby and not feeling bad about it
    5) She apologized to Aisha at the tournament after taking her for granted
    6) she, like Miguel, immediately regretted the kiss after Miguel mentioned that he can't and he's with Tory
    7) you could clearly see in her face that she was going to come clean to Robby about the kiss after he came clean about the medal the day of the school fight
    8) during the fight, she said:"can't you just stop it already?!" indicating that she doesn't want to fight anymore
    9) she and Robby saved Demetri at the mall
    10) she visited Miguel at the hospital and took responsibility for the school fight
    11) she didn't care about Tory getting punished, she just wanted Miguel to be ok when Tory just wanted revenge
    12) she even said to Hawk at the hospital:"I don't care what you think, I just want to help." 13) she helped raise money for Miguel's surgery
    14) in the science project scene, she told Hawk to back off or he won't be lucky. He didn’t take her seriously, and thats the only reason she got violent.
    15) she didn't play the victim to her mom after the arcade fight, she said: "they broke Demetri's arm, I just wanted to show them that we couldn't be bullied." Which is what happened
    16) it was HER idea for Miyagi Do and Eagle Fang to work together to defend themselves against CK
    17) overall she's funny, smart, playful, and sweet, but still tough and brave when needed

      2) Actually, she left when he did something that affected her and never tried to stop him form bullying
      3) Nope, she begged them to let her stay in their clique
      4) no, she was just upset she got hit despite the fact it was an accident and she jumped into the fight and its hypocritical of her to be pissed at him for violence even though she started to like him because he beat up kyler and he started the fight because it was pretty sus that she was holding hands with robby
      5) She did this after she had no other friends to turn to
      6) she wasn't as regretful and didn't try very hard to tell robby
      7) she didn't though and instead decided to talk further about the medal of honour which she already knew about

      3) she did beg them, but she was honest when she did. She could've taken it further and apologized for something she didn't do, but she didn't.
      4) when miguel and sam talk at the tournament, sam clearly said that miguel shouldn't have been trying to hit anyone, when he was trying to hit Robby and hit her instead, which is why she broke up with him. She was trying to stop Miguel from hitting Robby, which is why she got in between.
      5) The point is because of everything with Aisha, she never backed down to fight for her friends again, except at the arcade fight, but that was only because of Tory.
6 and 7) telling your boyfriend you cheated isn't exactly an easy feat. She would've told Robby had it not been for Tory

      3) This is not one of Sam's best moments but she had a choice to either apologize for what she didn't do or just walk out from there. She at least had the smarts and the decency to walk out of there without lying(with difficulty I know).
      4) She wasn't flirting with Robby. Miguel just misunderstood. Sam was trying to explain everything to Miguel. Miguel didn't have to fight Robby. He could have just told him to back off when he was talking to Sam.

I also liked how you stated the fact that when Sam actually visited Miguel and helped him in his time of need whereas Tory did nothing but focus on revenge. Sam definitely improved her character in season 3 when she started owning up to her mistakes like when she visited Miguel, started that fund raiser to help pay for Miguel's surgery, she tried to be there for Robby by emailing him and only stopped because he never answered which is not her fault, she wanted to do something about Cobra Kai who were harassing her and her friends, she convinced her dad to give Miguel a chance, she started the dojo alliance not jus to stop Cobra Kai but to let bygones be bygones, like she said "if we can't get over the past the fighting will never end this rivalry has to stop one way or another" and she overcame her PTSD,

From liking her to not liking her to getting some sort of even ground in-between, it did finally ring through to me how much this series loves creating complex characters, even if they aren’t as deep as I would’ve liked (being a fanfiction writer myself and all that).
What really struck me about Sam is the kind of crazy parallel between her and Tory (and by that, I mean how crazily similar their rivalry is to Johnny and Daniel’s from the first movie). Maybe it’s just me but hot damn, did it make me look at the latter in a more positive light. Yes, she’s made some royally f’d up mistakes; yes, she might be a bit of a hypocrite and yes, she has far from the best track record when it comes to getting people and keeping them around but then again.....so did Daniel.

Finally! Someone who sees Samantha as a good guy! She's my favorite character and I agree with almost all of your points! Sometimes it feel like I'm the only person who likes her but videos like this give me hope.
However, I do have some counterarguments for this video: yes, Samantha has made mistakes just like everyone else, but I would say that she was innocent in the romantic drama. The only mistake that she made was kissing Miguel while she was drunk, and I would barely hold her accountable for that because she was obviously under the influence of alcohol and her judgement was impaired. Miguel was completely sober.
Samantha also had every right to accuse Tory of stealing her mom's wallet. First, Tory brags about stealing alcohol and then mocks Sam when Sam tells her that she shouldn't steal. When Sam approaches Tory about the wallet, Sam doesn't immediately blame her. She says, "My mom is missing her wallet," and Tory immediately gives a snide remark: "Sucks for her."
Samantha did apologize to Tory for what happened at the beach club. When she runs into Tory at the roller skating rink, she says, "Look, we just wanted to order some food, I'm sorry." But Tory ignores her and doesn't even apologize for being rude and shoving Samantha either.
When you say, "Tory had a right to know and confront Sam at the school," this is true, but that is not what Tory did. She threatened Sam and began a school brawl instead of talking to her like a normal person.
About what happened at the school and the arcade in season three, I do agree that the Miyagi-Do students were not following the Miyagi-Do philosophy, but they were only retaliating against Cobra Kai who had been tormenting them for two and a half seasons straight. They tried to fight smart and fair, but it never worked out, so they resorted to trying to beat Cobra Kai at their own game. This did not work because their hearts weren't in it. Miyagi-Do is about balance and peace. It also failed because Cobra Kai is manipulative.
I'm conflicted about whether or not Robby had time to respond to Samantha's emails. I don't blame him for not responding because he did try and he was obviously in a tough spot, but I also don't blame Samantha for being upset with Robby when he got mad at her because she stopped writing to him. It was mainly a communication issue, but Robby could have handled it much better. Neither of them were wrong when it came to the emails, but Robby was wrong for blowing up at her.
Other than that, I agree with you!
Also, the beginning was hilarious. The Samantha haters be like that sometimes. 😂

"However, I do have some counterarguments for this video: yes, Samantha has made mistakes just like everyone else, but I would say that she was innocent in the romantic drama. The only mistake that she made was kissing Miguel while she was drunk, and I would barely hold her accountable for that because she was obviously under the influence of alcohol and her judgement was impaired. Miguel was completely sober." Well, I would say Sam did string Robby along a bit, since she was using him to repress her feelings for Miguel. It's still miles above Miguel going into a relationship with Tory while pining for Sam the whole time and cheating on Tory with Sam the first chance he gets (and neither Miguel nor Sam regretted the kiss, they just regretted being in relationships with other people when it happened).
"Samantha also had every right to accuse Tory of stealing her mom's wallet. First, Tory brags about stealing alcohol and then mocks Sam when Sam tells her that she shouldn't steal. When Sam approaches Tory about the wallet, Sam doesn't immediately blame her. She says, "My mom is missing her wallet," and Tory immediately gives a snide remark: "Sucks for her."" I've always seen Tory's snide attitude here as an indication she was trying to initiate something with Sam, just off the things Aisha had been saying to Tory earlier in the episode. And yep, Tory offered herself up as suspect #1 by actually stealing a bottle of vodka and then bragging about it. Keep in mind, the stolen wallet belonged to Sam's mom. That's the only reason Sam was so interested in retrieving it and she had good reason to believe that Tory was guilty. Had Sam called security on Tory instead of offering her a chance to open her purse, then security wouldn't have found the wallet, but they'd find the stolen vodka. Tory would have been busted either way. (And Sam was likely trying to keep Aisha out of trouble, because while her mom was able to talk the management into letting Robby come to the club as their guest in spite of Robby's criminal past, it's unlikely that Aisha's family would be able to keep their membership if their guest was busted for stealing)
"Samantha did apologize to Tory for what happened at the beach club. When she runs into Tory at the roller skating rink, she says, "Look, we just wanted to order some food, I'm sorry." But Tory ignores her and doesn't even apologize for being rude and shoving Samantha either." It's pretty clear Tory would never have accepted Sam's apology. Sam's single slight against her was enough to cement Tory's hatred, and nothing was going to change her mind after that.
"When you say, "Tory had a right to know and confront Sam at the school," this is true, but that is not what Tory did. She threatened Sam and began a school brawl instead of talking to her like a normal person." Actually, in this situation, Tory should be taking up the issue with Miguel, not with the girl that Miguel cheated on her with. However, I'm of the belief that Tory attacked Sam at the school because she wanted Miguel to watch her giving Sam a public ass-beating.

I see where a lot of the fan base comes from, but it’s also clear she is a teenager trying to do what’s right (which involves messing up even more than your average adult protagonist). I think she’s picked as the punching bag for the fan base because pretty much every show has a villain (which is clearly Kresse but even he is somewhat sympathetic). She’s reacting the same way a lot of high school girls would, and for that I have to give the writers credit, even if at times it’s frustrating

Very good analysis of Sam! I hope it's convinced Sam haters to look at her through a different lens. A couple of things, though:
    - I'd argue that it wasn't just the fight with Tory at the school that gave Sam PTSD. It was more likely the culmination of everything that happened that day: having her kiss with Miguel exposed, Miguel's fall, the turn in her relationship with Robby, and the general chaos and trauma of the whole thing.
    - I'm not sure when it was ever implied that Tory was a more skilled fighter than Sam, even at Tory's introduction. Yeah, Tory has a kickboxing background, but Sam was also trained in Miyagi-Do from a young age.

Johnny has shown more restrain (when not drunk) than Sam and Daniel combined. Tory is made to be an evil girl but in reality the two are impulsive and driven by their hatred for each other, which Daniel and Johnny share and which caused Cobra Kai to come back to life. If we're being honest, Sam seems to get the most character development of anyone in season 3. This is also the season of the show where what used to be Sam's primary storyline - the love triangle involving herself, Miguel, Robby, and Tory - takes a noticeable backseat and I don't think that's a coincidence, seeing as that love triangle drama was the worst-received element of season 2. Of course there are still viewers who don't like the character, but it also seems like a not insignificant amount of people really warmed up to Sam in season 3 as well.

The whole arc of every character in this series is what happens when grudges and bullies go out of control. Sam is no different than any of the other characters. Miguel gets jealous and uses his anger which causes the first break up with Sam. Robby using Daniel to get back at his father then when that anger is unleashed he to hurts Miguel when he gets jealous. Hawk gets bullied becomes a badass then turns into a bully then comes back to being Hawk. Its about finding identity and balance. Tory thinks the world is against her finds something to channel that anger. Seizes what she wants which starts a feud about boyfriends and stuff with Sam. This is no different then Daniel and Johnny. Johnny was a pure bully and prick in the movie and now we find Daniel being to much of a paragon not seeing room to forgive and believe that someone can change. He finds his arc in this season. So back to Sam. She looses her direction when she becomes a teen hanging out with a crowd that looks down at her once best friend. She put aside Karate but finds it again at the end of Season 1. Tory and her become rivals with the whole Miguel and Robby thing. Tory is a bully and thinks Sam is cutting in on her boyfriend which leads to that final of season 2. Season 3 Sam is getting passed her fear but it goes unbalanced and she becomes aggressive and uses her anger. Season 4 is her wanting to take back control. Now unlike other characters who opening bullied people she just is hostile to Tory. She has turned into Johnny in some ways of thinking you can just use force to solve problems. End of Season 4 she finding who she is and Season 5 will be whether she finds balance or not. But Angel, Devil polarizing. You can make an claim that most of the main characters were that at one point or another.

I'm so happy that you made this video, it is well balanced. I feel like people tend to overlook the nuances of the character just because she's a rich and pretty girl that apparently always gets her way, including messing around with two boys. I don't know, maybe too many people make the connection of the love triangle to Twilight, but believe me, it isn't even close. In Twilight everyone is a selfish prick, a plank of wood and a complete moron.
I like Sam because like you said, even though she makes mistakes, she holds herself accountable (most of the time).
In season 4, Sam started to give in to the anger she felt, even going as far as threatening Tory when she seemed to be willing to make a truce or even talk things out. In a way, the roles reversed and it was Sam the one who let her anger lead the way. It only makes sense that Sam is the way she is, Daniel is also a hothead, and we recently learned that Amanda had anger issues too. Also, the way Sam treated Tory at that birthday party was a douche move. I understand the negative feelings she had towards Tory, because in the end, it was Tory who started both brawls, but that was not the right way to go about that situation. Fortunately by the end of the season, Sam manages to keep herself in check.
Even though I was bummed she didn't win, I'm also very happy for Tory. But then again, the referee was bribed, so I was actually heartbroken and just wanted to hug Tory. Girl can't catch a break. I'm excited for season 5, this show is amazing!

The reason why Sam was a controversial character to many people, including myself, in Seasons 1 and 2, was that most of her suffering seemed more self inflicted compared to the others. While Robbie, Tory, Miguel, Aisha, and Hawk all made mistakes and did acts one should no better, they all came from harder lives that one could sympathize rift, they weren't bad, they were just in bad situations that were at times not their fault, and they acted out wrongly because of that. Does that make it okay, no, but it did provide context and made us feel, "Okay, these things aren't right, but I know they're better than that. They'll eventually fix things." It's akin to the underdog, you root for them because you'd like for them to be in a better place (Although I'd say Tory's crossed the line when she chose to ignore her faults as well as her family's wellbeing).
Sam, at least at first, seemed more like a spoiled well off girl who wasn't taking responsibility for her actions. Aisha struggling to reconcile with her, Sam should not have let Yasmine's acts of bullying slide, and should have stood up for her old friend, Aisha has every right to refuse her friendship. Miguel and Robbie's rivalry getting worse at times, as well as Johnny and Daniel, Sam, you're the one refusing to take responsibility for your mess ups, letting your boyfriends suffer because of it, and making easy to fix situations worse. Sam was never a villain, but for a lot of people, she seemed to just get away with things that others wouldn't in her place, harkening to what Tory said about the world having no mercy for people who struggle. Sam could get away with things, and at least had a good house and strong support to go back to, which the other youths couldn't.
Fortunately, at least to me, Season 3 did make Sam much more sympathetic and likable. They made her take responsibility for how her actions worsened things, and had her act to make amends. The writers also did a good job at no longer making Sam feel like the privileged person in comparison, showing her helping her allies in facing their bullies, suffering for it, and her struggling to overcome PTSD. She finally...FINALLY, ends the annoying love drama by having her father understand why she likes Miguel, removing that from holding back the show. She also, justifiably, defends herself against Tory during the attack on the house. So, while the above reason were why she felt polarizing compared to the other characters, I'd say Season 3 has remedied most of my problems with her.

"she seemed to just get away with things that others wouldn't in her place" what did she get away with name one but ignore you ignore tory stealing and getting away with it so if it only a sam thing. she always felt bad about thing when it went bad but one again ignoring tory never did feel bad about what she was doing at all. miguel is part of reason that boys got hurt once again ignoring that someone else in that too. miguel get drunk and get jealous not letting sam explanation. not believing her and hit her. so miguel's hurt feeling is his own fault nothing to do with sam til the kiss. "The writers also did a good job at no longer making Sam feel like the privileged person in comparison" wrong it was always there just cause you ignored it like you did other things does not mean it was not there for example you say it sam that turn on aisha when it was when aisha that turn on sam cause up til the whole tory thing they were still friend's once aisha took tory's side and no longer talked to sam it was on aisha not sam but once again you ignored that it was aisha that sided with the new girl rather then old friend.

Sometimes people hate characters that mirror their own flaws that they really hate,
Other times, people hate characters that if they were irl with them, they'd feel in danger or threatened with them.
Or they feel their life and everyone in it would be in danger with them, therefore making their own life sad.
    That's how it works..
That's how we choose our good and bad.
Even experiments with babies show that(yes even tho it could be wrong)
But if we just stopped thinking about all that, calmed that anxious feeling inside us and let go of what the world would think about us and what ways that would threaten our life,
we would be able to calmly react to sam 's character.
((Btw Have you noticed how many people feel compelled to roast or ignore people who use "smart words" just because they could have been the ones using them?))

I think the biggest issue is the fact that Sam is a flawed character, deeply flawed, but is treated by the narrative as a good girl who only occasionally makes small mistakes. There's several scenes where Daniel is talking to her about her behavior and she always is able to settle it with, "Dad, it's me. You can trust me to do the right thing."
But... no. No he can't. He can't trust her to do the right thing because she very rarely does the right thing, and when she does the wrong thing (often) you can tell that she's relishing in it. This makes her stand out from characters like Tori, a character who does screw up but is forced to confront it and change to be a better person or who gets punished. Same thing for Hawk, who often has to face the reaction from the narrative and characters that what he put up with before as Hawk does not justify how he acted as a bully.
Sam, for a long time, did not have to deal with that. She gets grounded and then sneaks out with no further word on any sort of punishment and is then let out to hang out by the same mother who grounded her in the first place. She almost starts a fight in a cafeteria (for being slut shamed so it's at least justified) and clearly likes Miguel starting a fight for her instead, but then constantly acts like she's better than others because she 'doesn't start things'. Later seasons give her bad things to do by listening to to Johnny's teachings, but she never has to face what she did before in any real way so it feels more like the writers tried to tack on "bad girl traits" to solve than to ACTUALLY solve her real character issues. The way she hung out with bullies who tormented her former friend is swept under the rug and that friend goes back to "Hey, we're cool and we always will be," the way she didn't stand up for three kids getting bullied and instead only gets upset enough to break it off with her boyfriend when he tried to feel her up on a date instead of just confronting him and the narrative quickly spins it as the only thing she's mad about instead of focusing on the fact she was unknowingly dating a bully and should be ticked about that too, all small things on their own but piled up makes Sam look far less than ideal.
Which would be fine, because the show is full of less than ideal characters who have to own up to their flaws. Except the writers clearly wanted her to be an ideal character "who only makes small mistakes" and didn't get until way too late that she was not a good girl and she was actually shallow, cruel and painfully self-absorbed. If this character flaws had been addressed and used as a way to make her grow, I think people would have been more accepting of her. As it is, when they finally did it was largely seen as too little too late.

You make a pretty good point that Sam will probably be the next All Valley Champion: It will have to be a Miagi or Eagle Fang student, because the villains winning would go against the rules of the genre, and you are right that Miguel is unlikely to have enough time to recover to the point that he can go against an even better trained Robby/Tory. (And Demetri is just a weaker fighter.) So it'll have to be Haw or Sam, and Hawk can't win on aggression, and is too aggressive to win on defense.

regarding miguel's rs with tory and sam's rs with toby was both their fault. they dragged these two people down with their own complications with each other thus making it even more complicated. it was both miguel and sam's fault for deliberately trying to cover their scars from the break up and giving in to the infatuation. ofc i understand this is a story, it has to be prolonged to create branches of outcomes, but irl that's a dangerous game to play, you're hurting a lot of people. plus sam is a good and well-written character, i liked it best when she said: everyone has a sob story it doesn't excuse you from being a bully. you always have a choice to act and behave properly.

Sam has messed up in this show, but the difference between her and Tory is that Sam tries to do better, while Tory chooses to stay in her funkiness.
Sam did deserve to get called out for kissing Miguel in front of the school, because even though everyone knows Miguel and Sam are meant to be, they were seeing someone. But the spiked bracelet and that stuff was unnecessary. But, Tory still got whooped and Sam was wearing heels lol.
Yes it was also wrong to accuse Tory like that, and I feel like Tory and Sam are so alike, and WOULDVE been great friends if Sam hadn’t accused 😭.
But Tory should’ve gotten over it at the rink, because tbh she pushed her in the table and put her in her place. So Tory pretty much carried the rivalry, when Sam would’ve apologized to her for accusing her smh. I feel like Robby does deserve better, but he has been a prick to Johnny who has been trying harder than his mom at this point.
Sam-needs to put more trust and benefit of the doubts toward others
Miguel-needs to become weaker, 😂 he was supposed to be paralyzed and knocked Kyler out in 4 hits lol.
Robby- Needs a good family, and a fresh start, and needs to give people a chance. But he deserves to have someone that cares for him truly.
Tory- needs to heal her wounds and move on, and find peace in her life. As long as get someone who will care for her, and I pray to go she just forgets that Sam exists for the love of me.
Hawk-I’m proud he found his true side, and I hope he balances more with Demetri (the two seem to vibe off of each other when they fight) and gets back with my girl Moon
Demetri- Get Yasmine, and keep the flow going
Aisha- bring yo ass back in this show

My issue with Sam is that flawed characters aren’t flawed because of events that happened to them for example missing an arm isn’t a flaw or being an orphan doesn’t make you flawed instead flaws are deep intrinsic things we can’t escape and Sam doesn’t seem like a flawed character she just seems like a series of bad events that happen to her
