The multiplayer/LAN ability made it the real seller. I think iD really got most of their revenue from hosting lan parties and selling off the engine. It was the basis for a lot of games at the time and for years to come. I think up until early 2000s before it became obsolete and the Quake 3 engine really took over from then.
At the time, this was great. I was 13 at the time and it sold me to buy it when I watched the video and demo that came on a CD sold with the pcgamer magazine. I remember after getting it pcgamer had like updates and mods on the cdrom too that really blew my mind.
+Loukas Giraud That is what the quality of the trailer was like back then! You forget, this trailer came out in '97. Crammed on a CD (not DVD, or from the internet) with other stuff, so they couldn't release high quality videos. As they had game demos, screenshots and other movies to fit on the disc.
Now for *this* to be re-released like Quake 1.
Re-released 10 august ;)
Wow, there is a face attached to the health indicator in this trailer, like in Quake 1 and Doom 1, 2.
Don't think I ever noticed that before...
They still kept that to quake 3 but without expression interacting
was this the e3 trailer that made John Romero decided to move Daikatana onto the quake 2 engine?
+Metal_Horror_Gamer Alas, I wish I had the answer for you. But I have no idea.
Was this game well received? I think it plays better than the first one, but idk if people thought so in 97

I believe so
5 minutes long trailer? That's what's up!
Movement and weapon bob looks better than the release version.
Nostalgia
I have no clue how this sold quake 2

But yeah you're right, looking/watching these for today's game would be like the most boring and dull thing ever imagined lol.
Classic!
Nice, though the Quality is extremly low :(
