I always thought the Q2 weapons were the most brutal/badass heavy metal guns of all time. In term of still maintaining a certain elegance. The Machine Gun has such a sexy crispy "tatatata" sound, the chaingun goes from rrrr to WRRRRRRRRR and just literally turns enemy into gibs. And the Doubleshotgun is just a hunk of metal, like the GhettoBlaster of heavy metal guns. You must consider that this was still very early FPS gaming in the 90s, trying to conserve as much ammo as possible, trying to play slow and clean. So rarely pulled i the trigger on the Chaingun for more than a few cents of a second. But when you do release its full power its like a Tornade hit those rusty halls.
This game was a great surprise to me especially when I got pissed off by the fact that the red dead remaster was lazy and $50. The fact that this game is only $10 with way way more content then rd sealed the deal made me get this over that.
Kinda strange how Quake 2 didn't have a Melee Weapon, just an infinite ammo Blaster that was kind of worthless as soon as you got your hand on the Shotgun and used nothing more but for activating put of reach switches (though in this remaster it seems to have gotten a bit of a damage buff, like it kills the basic Guard enemies in 2 - 3 hits depending on the type).
@@KayX291 I think it made it useful in other ways, such as it not dragging the player towards the enemy and having a much better hitbox, the latter resulting in an increase in dps
Blaster is basically a melee weapon alternative with flashlight and range "button pusher" purposes. Considering how many buttons and dark locations were in Quake 2 with new kinda-dynamic light system, it was a solid replacement for Axe. Also PS1 version of blaster was even better with faster firing rate.
I noticed that the shotgun's pump sound is sometimes more and sometimes less delayed after the gunshot sound. It's later in the video than it is for me most of the time, but sometimes I get this delay too. And I don't even play this version, I only use the unofficial patch for vanilla
they're only in the extra campaigns as pickups, but the codebase is now unified so you can cheat for all of them no matter what campaign you.'re playing. That goes for the new powerups too, so you can have for example the Plasma Beam and Double Damage in The Reckoning, or Phalanx and DualFire Damage in Ground Zero. Or in the base game if you prefer. Haven't tried multiplayer yet, but I'm pretty sure there are many maps that include expansion content by default
I understand that ion beam projector thing from ground zero is kind of a replacement for old lightning gun exactly as it functioned in Q1 (as straight lightning bolt instead of wide spread arc lightning), just like Flechette gun is a replacement for Nailguns also from the og Q1, but they could have reintroduced those old guns and reworked their projectiles and functions so they wouldn't feel as redundant you know?! They could have remade Lightning Gun for example to shoot actual wide spread lightning arcs exactly as you would expect Lightning Gun to operate, so that Ion Beam thing added in Q2 add-on could be it's own unique thing functioning differently...

The re-enhanced Quake II is neither critically acclaimed nor commercially flopped. I'd might even say this is mediocrepiece for what I see is the graphics very slightly tampered by small flaws among the others that may encounter several glitches.

The quake 2 guns were honestly very satisfying
Honestly? For real??
I think that's probably the best part of the game for me. I like Quake's weapons, but there's more variety in Quake 2.

I think I prefer off centered guns. Made it eadier to shoot around the corners and phalanx could hit two different targets.
I'd rather they added in some weapons from Q1 and it's add-ons that never made it into the sequel, like lightning cannon or fire axe or thor's hammer!
Did they buff ETF in any way? It was hilariously worthless in Ground Zero
The plasma beam could've get a better model ngl
