My favorite is for a song that was made like 200 years ago, its uploaded to youtube and it gets claimed by a non existent company. This happened quite a bit for songs that were featured in Assassin's Creed Black Flag. People uploaded the songs to just enjoy them and non existent companies put claims on them or got the audio for the video removed.

Coming back to this series after awhile; always impressed by the research and scripting you do Emp. Love your downward spirals, hope you feel it's worth it !
Just like most people, I'm not really one to spend the time to write a comment on a video--I consume the content I decide is worth my time and I get on with my life. But you've compelled me to comment here, if only in some vain attempt to reach a creator that has managed to leave a bigger impact on me in the meager handful of days I've been perusing your channel than most I've come to watch regularly on this site for the past several years of my life. While I haven't dug into every single video and every single story on this channel, its content (particularly the more contemporary commentary videos) has presented me with such a compelling and thoroughly internally consistent experience as a new viewer that I just have to follow it up myself somehow. The downward spiral has claimed another victim, and it's been a hell of ride so far. Especially dipping my toes into your old poops, since I'm a huge fan of YTPs (Captain Duckturd is my current favorite YTPer, can't wait for new stuff from him). I'm a bit saddened that you've essentially closed the book on your YTP antics, but that's pretty understandable given all the shit that went flying after a while when you did. What I really wanted to talk about, though, is the strange position you hold in the RUclips landscape and the shockingly unique personality that you've become on this site. The first video to sneak me into this channel was, unsurprisingly, your newest one: this one. I watched it the day it came out, and the memes you invoked in it intrigued me to say the least. I knew there was more to the downward spiral, your editing style, and visual source material. It all comes together to create something capable of causing culture shock, honestly. That includes the stellar music choice for all of the videos I've watched so far. You've been effectively sitting out of this game called RUclips for years now, and it's given you and, by extension, your viewers an incredibly interesting perspective on the events that came and went over these past years on RUclips. You've had the opportunity to experience, spectate, and dissect the many baffling things that have gripped this site and its users. Seeing the events that I saw from afar as what's best described as a RUclips lurker, I was totally disconnected and unable to really grasp their contexts and finer nuances. The semi-jaded, cynical lens that your channel expresses itself through is something entirely new to me. And that combined with your eagerness to interact with others and to operate constructively despite the coarse language you tend to employ was frankly enough to force my hand in hitting the un-unsubscribe button. I'm looking forward to your upcoming videos, and the continuation of the epic saga of the downward spiral.

@@pharder1234 Copyright needs to be abolished and STAY abolished. It was never about artists rights in the first place anyway (it was always a sneaky censorship tool) and at best it only protected the shittiest of publishers who would fuck the artists (that the copyright was supposedly made for) over relentlessly with. This is also ignoring that copyright (and patents) lets someone who did something decades ago collect money on said work that they've often done no work on since.
I have been saying the same opinion about copyright all over RUclips (you probably have seen one of my comments) but i will repeated it for a 54th time, copyright isn't about protecting original authors anymore (or for the last 50 years) is about stealing money and ideas from other similar ideas, censure public opinions and to stably a legal monopoly

>emplemon uploads >my day is instantly better Edit: I love how my low effort comment gets 59 likes but my historical analysis mini essay on the state of RUclips gets 1, but im not complaining, thanks mates
Are you talking about another comment you left or a video essay? Bc in my experience people usually don't read long comments, long comments will sometimes be top comment, but they're just one essay out of hundreds. If you make that into a video or podcast, you're way more likely to get a response
Ecrivon Lunyx it was a comment, and you’re not wrong, I noticed that trend to, that was kinda my point by saying that, I just find it funny I guess. (Also I don’t have means of making it a podcast or video or anything)
Something I've slowly been realizing is that the internet has, ironically, made it more likely than ever that noteworthy media vanishes forever. Original RUclips content is remarkably ephemeral, between copyright claims of varying bogusness and the occasional creator breakdown followed by mass deletion of videos. Streaming services for TV and movies are constantly swapping who owns the rights to what, while driving down the demand for physical releases, meaning something could very easily vanish off the net and not have a physical version anywhere. And the general attitudes of digital media companies does not leave me with any faith that if, say, that book I just bought on Kindle were to get wiped from their servers in a freak accident, that Amazon would do anything to get it back or compensate me. I've started to become a media hoarder. Do I wanna watch a TV show? I'll buy the DVD or Blu-Ray, and if I can't I'll pirate it and keep it on a hard drive, safe and sound where no one can go "Netflix has the rights. No wait, Hulu has the rights. No wait, Amazon has the rights." I don't use Spotify, I purchase Mp3s from Google Play and iTunes, and keep them on SD cards, because I no longer have faith that the music I like will be there tomorrow. I'm seriously worried that one day, 30 years from now, I won't be able to enjoy the media I like now, even though it's no problem for me to go out and buy a copy of basically anything major from 30 years ago now.
You too huh? I fear the day when we will no longer be able to own music. Instead just permission to play it. Scary eh? I've been saving up mp3 and cds too. Need to get a hard drive soon.
@@nelzelpher2088 I mean, Mp3 files are a fairly safe bet. You can just copy them onto spare hard drives, SD cards, flash drives, etc. A 64gb flash drive will run like $15 USD, and can hold enough music that you could play music nonstop for a week and never repeat a song. You can make a spare copy, keep it in a storage locker or at a family member's house or something, and have a backup. And since it's standardized computer file with a non-proprietary format, it should still work on any computer made after the early 2000s. Assuming you'll live a full life and die sometime in the 2090s, you'll still be able to either play Mp3s on whatever sort of computer we use then, or be able to get a second or third year computer science student to program an Mp3 player in exchange for a case of beer. If you're a part of the very small crowd who can, in fact, tell the difference between an Mp3 and high quality vinyl records, there are other computer formats. Look into lossless audio compression. Downside is that lossless formats require a lot more space. After that, well, it gets tricky. CDs are easy to burn with a computer with a CD drive, but are easy to scratch up. Cassette tapes are bulky and wear out with enough use. Not to mention, tape decks aren't mass-produced like they used to be, and have a lot of moving parts that will eventually break. Vinyl records are even bulkier than cassettes, can get scratched, and require specialized equipment to copy.
I'm really enjoying these more comprehensive videos of yours. also that We Are Happy Landfill sample around 13:27 made my day. I love that song. Anyway keep up the good work.
We gotta find a way so that youtubers can safely copyright claim their own videos and take all ad revenue from their own video. Thats the real metagame
I think you missed an important point about copyright and poops; Posting a full film on RUclips is for people who haven’t seen it yet and taking away a potential audience member. Poops use the film that a viewer has already seen to poke fun at something. The poop assumes you’ve already seen it, isn’t replacing the film and is being used for something the potential audience member isn’t going to find in the original.
Man, that old school YT logo makes me so nostalgic. Back when you could watch entire cam rips of films that were STILL IN THEATRES just broken into a couple of separate parts. Goooood times.
Copyright is the lifetime of the author plus 70 years. The Simpsons came out in the late 80s(far less than 70 years ago) and last I checked, most all of its creators were still around, so I severely doubt that claim

you aren't talking about the company's host distributor in that country because it's stupid to even think that company's host going to have more control over rights then the parent company, Then doesn't the distribution rights holder also holds the rights of the show in their country?!!! And also if the owner(who wants to upload the show globally) has just the rights of their show in USA and not copyrighted the material in any other countries or top on that sold it's copyright to other country's distribution rights holder, like an idiot then it doesn't make the company guilty who sold their rights and now wanna have full control over that material....

From everyone in my class to you all, we are about as soulless as you think we are because the industry beats the desire to care out of you.
In all seriousness, this is why I changed my mind away from working in film and tv, to radio.
My personal favorite is when a video is claimed by 30+ different companies.
Mine is when I get claimed by a company that doesn't exist, for a song that doesn't exist! Then they go on to remove my video without me even putting it for review
@@FilmsNerf2 those songs may have been written & composed 200 years ago, by the audio in which used and recorded was much more recent.

No one was watching an hour long documentary as a way to circumvent paying the UFC money to watch an 8 minute long fight, the video was 100% in the category of fair use and transformative, but as long as the copyright holders are the people who decide whether or not a video stays up, creators who use copyrighted works stand ZERO chance of getting their stuff unblocked
Waaaaay back in the day, like no more than a year into RUclips's existence, I decided to upload my favorite clip from Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

Copyright needs to be abolished and STAY abolished.

Exactly why I'm worried about this new digital era we seem to be slowly ushering into.
You too huh? I fear the day when we will no longer be able to own music. Instead just permission to play it. Scary eh? I've been saving up mp3 and cds too. Need to get a hard drive soon.
Avex blocked Initial d stuff after 12 yrs afaik. It exists since 2006.
I need advice how to start saving physical music copies and devices to play them. I was born in '99 and am unfamiliar with this technology.

We gotta find a way so that youtubers can safely copyright claim their own videos and take all ad revenue from their own video. Thats the real metagame
I think you missed an important point about copyright and poops;
Posting a full film on RUclips is for people who haven’t seen it yet and taking away a potential audience member.
Poops use the film that a viewer has already seen to poke fun at something. The poop assumes you’ve already seen it, isn’t replacing the film and is being used for something the potential audience member isn’t going to find in the original.
Yeah ikr
Like with these meme song mashups, you'd have to of heard both songs originally otherwise you wouldn't really get anything from the mashup.
And if it gets popular enough, people will watch the original material just to understand the content .
