    Nice video, I'll try this next time I'm on the court!

    Love this. These two main components are not taught by most pros I know: (1) a lot of the work is done by the legs; (2) but there is arm motion and it's critical to get it right. I was essentially taught just #1 for decades.

    Great video. Will tell my students tomorrow. Now I know why the volley is not a punch!

    Tom, would you say volley is almost always a slice?

  • @zorantolic7142
    @zorantolic7142 4 дня назад

    Maybe due to my bad English I didn’t explain well. Elbow and wrist moove but do not rotate. So you moove your racquet only by dominant shoulder and using yr legs…

    Tom, to stick a volley, how tight do you hold the racket(on a scale of 1-10, 10 being super tight)?

    Eastern or continental grip?🙉

      @TomAllsopp  5 месяцев назад +1

      Somewhere in between. Almost continental.

    Hey Tom, you say not to extend your forearm, but in all situations we won’t have time to take a backswing with our forearm?

    • @TomAllsopp

      Sorry I don’t understand

      @@TomAllsopp Coach, for me the way you went about explaining this topic is a bit confusing. There are some things I would like to clarify. How do you stop extending the arm? What should you do different with your forearm so that your arm stops extending?🤔

    • @TomAllsopp
      @TomAllsopp  2 дня назад

      @Rabit437 play it next to you, not in front of you. Move the arm in a circular motion not in a punching motion. Watch my other volley videos

      @@TomAllsopp are there times when the ball comes so fast that you must simply block or punch?

    • @TomAllsopp
      @TomAllsopp  2 дня назад

      @Rabit437 sure, but I’d always strike it and the action is never a punch where the elbow extends

  • @zorantolic7142
    @zorantolic7142 4 дня назад +1

    Tom u are actualy keep your angled arm still and mooving it only by mooving your shoulder forward and of course using your legs. Elbow and wrist remain still…

    • @TomAllsopp
      @TomAllsopp  4 дня назад

      Correct. But I’m saying move your arm because if you say use your shoulder people rotate the shoulders

    • @zorantolic7142
      @zorantolic7142 4 дня назад

      @@TomAllsopp Yeah, it may be confusing for rec players. Racquet head behind the comming ball, dominant shoulder forward together with legs pattern (nicely explained in one of yr previous videos)…
      All the best

    • @TomAllsopp
      @TomAllsopp  4 дня назад

      @zorantolic7142 you don’t want dominant shoulder forward. Opposite

    • @zorantolic7142
      @zorantolic7142 4 дня назад

      @@TomAllsopp Misunderstanding. U r saying move yr arm and I am adding by moving yr shoulder forward. I think it’s just a small difference in aproaching the student. A tip with a shoulder movement helped me and it doesn’t mean it will help someone else 🙂
