    Really needed to add some equipment/ unit as the pressure valve will show more fluctuation and the regulator has to differentiate the mean value, are used to test the unit until they were fazed out- as new stands party written as they have not understood or asked older gas engineers 🙏

    I always strap a valve handle (with tape) to the MIV. So that next engineer has a handle to attach. This way the customer will use ECV in emergency.

    I do agree with you Derek, it is so much easier to leave is at 0 during let-by. Question is: Will my assessor allow this during the ACS? If no, I could state that BS6400 does allow other ways, but there is a good chance he will try to fail me for being a smart ass :D anyway. Thank you for a great video. Those videos are a real help with preparation for ACS.

    • @tomkatgastraining
      @tomkatgastraining  4 года назад

      Peppe_UK as an assessor when a candidate can give a reason for carrying something out different from the assessment but still achieved the same results I would say well done you are correct but there are a lot of assessors out there who will follow the assessment to the letter and want to find anything to fail candidates. But if you achieve the correct results there should be no problem. Hope that helps 😜

    Hi Derek, I'm training currently, your videos are excellent, question for you, will you do a video on standing pressure, operating pressure, inlet pressure, burner pressures please and explain what they all are, what is it that is being checked and why, and what actions can/should we take if we encounter for example if standing pressure was under 21 or over 30, i know if over 30 then call the supplier but if under could there be other reasons why the pressure is low or is it just a problem with the ECV and you have to call the supplier?

    I'm not a gas engineer but I'll have a stab at why the let-by test is done at 7 to 10 mBar rather than checking against zero. Testing at 7 to 10 mBar is to check the manometer and it's piping are in working order. If the device stays at zero it could be that the manometer is broken or there may be a split in the rubber tube so no pressure reaches the test equipment, where as getting the pressure at the manometer up to 7 to 10 mBar proves it's functioning and a drop would suggest the test equipment is not properly connected or has a fault that means it cannot be relied upon.

    • @tomkatgastraining
      @tomkatgastraining  2 года назад

      Good try mate but the let by test is to see if the ECV is passing not a gas leak so if it was passing it would rise the tightness test is for a leak and if you found it’s dropping then you have a leak. Gas engineers are trained to inspect their test equipment before. Also if you put the pressure to 20mbr and it rises more than 0.25mbr on a u gauge then you would still see let by.

    The bottom line is there needs to be more training it's very common where I am, also when you call sgn to look at an installation that requires attention they dont actually do anything to resolve it, I've complained about lots of things like stickers etc but the gas industry just seems to have forgotten medium pressure and left it behind in my opinion
