I tossed the old Armstrong Steering box and installed a power steering unit from a newer Ford pickup. I used junk yard parts and got a power steering bracket and pump (for a core) and about 150 bucks later I'm steering with ease. I love your truck. I have a thumping 390 in mine.
Check the drag link and other parts the play is coming from a part worn out. Back in the day I couldn’t buy the parts you bought so I made one better box out of two. Another thing I changed out the rear end with one from a 1974 Torino I also replaced my vacuum wiper motor with a electric one from a newer truck I think it was a 1960 to stop the death wobble rebuilt your leaf springs mine also had a 302 with a FMX Transmision. I seen a show on tv some guy used a electric steering box that goes on the shaft leading to gear box. I sold my 57 to some kid for $300.00 bucks I know he’s going to have a blast with it as I did the kid was super happy.
I overhauled a '57 Ford gear box back in the early 2000's. The gears, etc, were 'easy' to find then. Now, I find NOTHING! So, any ideas if new parts are somewhere I've not found? I just recently had a friend with a '57 F-100 bring me a failed/jammed gear box. It took way too long to disassemble because the pin the sector shaft gear moved out of the press fit in the sector casting and jammed on the gearbox housing! SHAZBAT! I got creative to get the pin out and then found the sector shaft did not want to come out of the housing! I used a bench press to get it pushed out finally. So, If I can get new parts, I'll reassemble after repairing the hole I had to drill into the housing to weld a stud onto that sector gear bearing pin to 'S L OW L Y' pull it out with washers and a nut, acting against the gearbox casting. Darn that's hard to describe to insure you understand what I did. So, any parts venders selling the steering shaft gear. and sector assembly?
I just bought that box and column at Carlisle swap meet. The brass bushings you replaced. Did you need to ream them after install and what size is the creamer tool you used if so. Thanks. Nice video

I wish I could fit in my engine bay😂 Nice video! Keep it up dude🏁
Four Speed Films benefits of being small 😎
Nice production. You need better lighting when filming. I would have liked to see how you pressed off the old gears and put on the new ones.
Hit the ground running thanks for the tip👍

Replace the worm gear would probably be even better.
wilecatrexy the kit I bought had all new gears including worm gears! Worm gears definitely make the biggest difference!
@@noahnorwood1 Do you have a link to the kit you used? I cant seem to find a rebuild kid that doesn't include the shaft.
