Con este deslumbrante Siface: l’amor castrato, el contratenor Filippo Mineccia y el director Javier Ulises Illán a la cabeza de Nereydas, presentan un pasticcio imaginario que refleja la vida musical y personal del castrato contralto nacido como Giovanni Francesco Grossi en 1653 en Toscana. Siface, admirado por sus grandes logros artísticos, también se hizo famoso por su trágica vida amorosa y su pavoroso final.
Fue llamado para cantar en óperas y oratorios por compositores como Stradella, Pasquini, Bassani, Pallavicino y Agostini. Por largo tiempo permaneció al servicio de Francesco II d’Este en Módena, siendo un miembro activo del «circuito ducal» en la península italiana, y siendo incluso, en una ocasión, enviado a Inglaterra, donde cantó ante la realeza y se encontró con un Purcell que quedó prendado por su arte.
Filippo Mineccia captura con brillantez la caleidoscópica sucesión de emociones que atraviesa esta selección de arias, que reflejan el modo de vida tórrido y espectacular de finales del XVII, y que en caso de Siface llevó a su caída en la ruta entre Ferrara y Boloña.
El conjunto Nereydas se sumerge con empatía en esta celebración vocal e instrumental siempre colorista, a menudo profunda e incisiva, firmada también por Alessandro Scarlatti (la emotivísima nana Dormi o fulmine), Francesco Cavalli o el mencionado Purcell (My song shall be alway). En su texto, Elena Bernardi da cuerpo a aspectos aún poco conocidos de la fase inicial de la ópera a finales del Seicento.

With Siface: l’amor castrato, countertenor Filippo Mineccia, together with Javier Ulises Illán and Nereydas, presents a short imaginary pasticcio opera reflecting the music-making and life of the contralto castrato known by that stage name. Born Giovanni Francesco Grossi in 1653 in the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, Siface was acclaimed for his exciting musical performances, yet who became famous also for the tragedy of his love life. He was called upon to sing in operas and oratorios by the likes of Stradella, Pasquini, Bassani, Pallavicino and Agostini. For a long time in the service of Francesco II d’Este in Modena, Siface was an active member of the musical “ducal circuit” in the Italian peninsula, even, on one occasion, additionally being sent to England, where he performed before monarchy, and met and impressed Henry Purcell.
Filippo Mineccia brilliantly captures the kaleidoscopic rush of emotions coursing through this selection of arias, which reflects the torrid and spectacular musical pace of life in late seventeenth-century Italy (as well as mirroring Siface’s own downfall on the road from Ferrara to Bologna).
The Spanish ensemble Nereydas fully enter into the spirit of this, by turns, colourful, heartfelt, poignant and vivid celebration of vocal and instrumental music, which also features works by Alessandro Scarlatti (the emotive lullaby Dormi o fulmine), Francesco Cavalli and Purcell (My song shall be alway). Elena Bernardi puts flesh on still little understood aspects of the early stages of opera in the late Seicento.

Mineccia, un contratenor fuera de serie, y esta Aria en particular, no hay quien la cante como lo hace él.

Todo lo que interpreta lo hace suyo, le imprime un sentimiento que es muy difícil encontrar en otros. No exagera en recursos, su gestualidad en cada palabra y frase del aria, de cualquiera que interprete, hace vivir la complejidad de los sentimientos del personaje. Es un gusto oirlo y en videos de grabaciones, o en vivo, mejor aún donde se ven las expresiones gestuales y corporales. No hay muchos que logren transmitir eso a pesar de ser excelentes cantantes.

@Victoria Zoe I only learned about counter tenors a few days ago after seeing something about a break dancing opera singer. I clicked and fell in love with counter tenors.
This morning I was listening to what I could find and when I listened to this the tears just flowed. The shesr beauty of the music, the powerful strength in its simplicity ( The Pachebel Canon in D comes to my mind) pierces through my heart and bypasses my critical mind allowing the amazing talent of Mr. Mineccia to both cut my heart open only to allow a purging and healing to take place as I am allowed to ride on his most wondrous interpretation of this piece of music.
I never really was into opera and now my appetite has been whet and know I am beginning a glorious journey. I marvel at the amount of work that each musician and singer puts forth to produce such glorious music.

No conocía a este contratenor, pero me encantó escucharlo, es delicado y tiene una voz bella y empática. El da capo es bellísimo, los adornos de la voz sobrecogen; un poco harto de los contratenores divas que sólo cantan árias de bravura, oir a Mineccia es un bálsamo.

Un placer escuchar a Filippo Mineccia. Años siguiendo todo su repertorio y presentaciones. Los autores y arias elegidas son de un gusto soberbio. Lo mejor del barroco que no todos se atreven a interpretar. Una interpretación cuidada pero natural y llena de sentimiento, interpreta a la perfección el sentir de la letra y la música. Fue y es acompañado por directores y musicos de primerísima calidad y experiencia, lo que completa un espectáculo maravilloso.
Para mí es el contratenor, altista o sopranista, que más agrada al oido por su extensos matices de voz, unos agudos espléndidos, y sobre todo, insisto una vez más, el sentimiento en la interpretación es UNICO !!!. Un placer que se disfruta una y otra vez.
