- Wendy Norman has always been upfront about the fact that she had her 18-year-old son Alex using a sperm donor. She recalls picking the profile of the donor, which said he was 6-foot-4, athletic, had an IQ of 160 and was pursuing a neuroscience engineering doctoral degree. But the donor was actually a college dropout who has been hospitalized for schizophrenia and spent time in jail. Now Wendy and her son worry that Alex might develop schizophrenia. #InsideEdition

I know families who have this run in their family and it can be due to physical health, genetics, psychological illness or due to the environment. I am a Dr. Pharmacist. In most cases I’ve seen patients get triggered by stressful or emotional events in their life. Dopamine is plays a role in the way of leading to schizophrenia and what it does is causes overstimulation in the brain.
@@MichelleOrtiz3417 If you're not genetically predisposed to schizophrenia, you're not going to get it; no matter how many drugs you abuse. That being said, drugs and/or stressful life events can trigger the illness, but only if you have a genetic predisposition to it.

To be honest, his whole profile could be mostly true. I knew an extremely handsome man, IB hs grad, went to UF for engineering, both parents were dentists. On his last year of engineering school, he had his first schizophrenic break and was hospitalized. His profile a year before that, at age 22 would have looked really good. No one has to go back to the sperm bank and report sudden onset schizophrenia.

This sadly has happened to other people in Illinois a lady had 2 children and the donor had a form of autism and she is suing the place.
I don't think it's the donor fault that he had to apologize for, it was the sperm bank that failed to check the donor's health, up-sold and lied about the profile

The kid wouldn’t be the same person if it wasn’t for that donor. Though he did lie about himself, it’s all in the past now. The kid is who he is, and he shouldn’t let his father’s lies define him.
The issue is the mental illnesses. He now has them because the donor lied.

I only take problem with the mental illness thing not because the kid has to suffer with them, but because if they knew his father had a history of Schizophrenia which typically has other disorders attached to it, they could've found out sooner how to help her son and maybe what medication to use or different therapy strategies to use.

I was born with schizophrenia and the one thing I can't do is have children because I can't have someone else have to go through the same life I did and suffer with a mental illness that is terrifying and confusing to deal with I spent 34 years building a good life and I will not let someone else have to try to fix there's because I couldn't just stop and think of what a life would be with my illness.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this. On one hand its like oh boo hoo you didnt get the perfect sperm donor but on the other I'm like thats messed up beyond words. But its kinda like she's telling this boy you're not the child i wanted i would've never "picked" you. Honestly i think you're given the child you need in life not what you "want" a lot of kids aren't what parents planned on. This is just wow no words yet so much to say.
To me it didn't seem like the mom regretted having him. To me it seemed like she wished she had known about the father's mental illness before hand due to the sons outbursts. Like she said...it was a long road. I garentee you that she blamed him for acting out like any parent would do with an unruly child. Probably brought the child to tons of doctors trying to get answers and when they asked about family history she likely said none because that's what was on the paperwork. If she knew maybe they could have handled it differently. The son wouldn't have been feeling like a failure compared to his mom and dad. As far as the son knew, his father was working on some new tech to cure illnesses while he (the son) was having a hard time. If he had known that his father dealt with similar issues, maybe that would have been comforting to him as he isn't a bad kid because he can't control his actions.
