  • Sometimes congenital defects are discovered in adulthood, so this procedure can be performed in adults as well for closure of defects. The total recovery time is 1 to 2 months.
    Take a rest and don't do any activity for the first few days.
    Showering is allowed after 3-4 days or until the doctor says otherwise. Patients can take a sponge bath.
    Patients can resume their routine, such as walking in the garden, climbing stairs slowly, after 3 weeks.
    Incision site will be healed in 6 weeks.
    Depending on the type of job one is involved in, adults can return to work after 7 weeks.
    Children can go back to school after 8 weeks.
    Light activities such as cooking and household chores are allowed after 8 weeks.
    Avoid lifting the child or anything heavier than 5 pounds for the first few months.
    Avoid skateboard riding, bicycle, roller skating, swimming, and all contact sports until the doctor says it is OK.
