"Go for a soda" is one of the most memorable riffs from the 80's! Limelight was my favorite tune to cover back in the 90's when I was in a band writing originals! I will concur with your selections sir! My ONLY criticism is that Triumph belonged in there somewhere. Rick Emmet is a beast on everything he touches.
Rik was one of the first "real" musicians I saw - I kinda followed him (as much as you could in those days) to keep an eye on his stuff and man, he was a phenomenal musician - put those three guys on a stage and the crowd was entranced and his ability and willingness to solo and improvise on stage were unreal - he was one of the very few who could "shred" but keep a melody and rhythm going.... the guy was amazing
Rock music has nourished my heart and soul since my earliest memories. I can't hold a tune so never got anywhere learning an instrument but I can dance my ass off. Really, absolutely enjoy listening to your tutorials.
All 5 riffs are fantastic. My favs were: April Wine - Roller, fk yea. But they had a tsunami of great riffs. Neil Young prolific talent. Cinnamon Girl is great!
Snoten whiskey and drinking cocain made me grab my guitar ! I can't believe I have never heard that before. Thank you ! Those were all great riffs. And picking a Rush riff is like trying to pick a favorite child. lol
I LOVE your videos with deep and abiding passion Kelly, but I've GOTTA 'call you out' for not including Jerry Doucette's 'Mama Let Him Play,' in the honourable mentions at least! You MUST agree that song is one of the Greatest Guitar Tunes to ever come out of Canada. Cheers Brother, I'm always excited when you pop up!
Great list, but thinking of other choices that could have also been in there - no idea how you'll get to the top 5 for US and UK! Good Luck with that controversy! :) My favourite part is the tutorial of each, perfect way to teach, not too slow and allows us to figure it out.
Got to agree with you on Loverboy but interestingly enough at a very young age Mike Reno singer for Loverboy sang for MOXY one of my all-time favorite bands after the passing of the legend Buzz Shearman. I would love a Hard drivin' MOXY lesson or two from the master KDA. Your channel is the best on RUclips. Thanks'!
KDA thanks for your lessons and great commentary. A couple of Australian band/solo guitar to think of 1) Midnight Oil - Cold Cold Change 2) The Angels - No Secrets 3) Daddy Cool - Eagle Rock 4) Tommy Emmanuel - take your pick. Any other Aussies here? Musical suggestions?
Great idea👍 Just when you thought all the ideas had been done. I don’t know about Loverboy at #4 though. Should have been more like #2 in my personal opinion. 🏆
Some days I have to lean more towards A Passage to Bangkok, the version from Exit Stage Left with the flanger added is such a monster. But yeah, Limelight, the entire song is probably his crowning achievement. He'd probably agree too. Cool list! I'm gonna have to learn that Pat Traverse. Looking forward to the rest of the countries!
Hey buddy, I am from the US and about your age and to throw an assist for Australia we used to do some Angels (Angel City), and Rose Tattoo. They both have some smoking tunes. So add those to your Inxs and AC/DC and now all you need to add is Billy Thorpe Children of the Sun.
Canada is divided on many fronts, but music is a binding force. You could take a +40 person from the West Coast, one from Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, and the East Coast and chances are they would agree on very little.. except Canadian Classic Rock. Great vid KDA.
Snortin Whiskey has to be my #1! That nasty squeal puts it over the top. Not Fragile by BTO and No Time by The Guess Who would have been strong contenders for me, but I can’t argue with your list. 👍
Hey Kelly, how about sometime teaching us some Goddo riffs/songs? I loved those guys, even though they weren't well known in the states ..... Sweet Thing, Oh Carol (Kiss My Whip), Too Much Carousing, Rosie (Just Hang On) .... to name a few .... 👍🎸🎵
I had forgotten how awesome Pat Travers is. Grew up listening to him, Ronnie Montrose and Frank Marino. 3 of the greatest underappreciated guitarists ever
Honorable mentions.. 5. New Orleans is Sinking; The Hip, 4. Boys in the Bright White Sports Car; Trooper 3. Taken Care of Biz; BTO. 2. American Woman; The Guess Who. 1. Home for a Rest; Spirit of the West [Play 2 seconds of the intro in any bar around the world and every Canadian in bar will go batshit crazy.]
Pat Travers is awesome! Caught them in 1979 during the Live! Go for What You Know tour. They weren't the headliners, but they stole the show. ... I was hoping to see Not Fragile in here, but good list nonetheless.
Lerxst plays it a bit different: pinky never leaves the b on the g string when he does the B, A, E part. See what Im saying? Not that it matters or anything, good job!
Hi Kelly, I'm not even going to look but I know April wine and Pat Travers are Canadian and I know you like both of them. I can't think of any others at the moment, my memory isn't what it used to be. The information is in there, it's just getting it out, lol. Ok let's go.
Triumph Aldo Nova Honeymoon Suite Rush Working Man April Wine I like to rock. Headstones have some great riffs also. Maybe go top 10. Thanks, though, awesome stuff.
Rush is a dominant force. Personally, I can listen to Anthem all day. BTW, where does Triumph fit in? Rick Emmett must have something deserving of mention!
My favourite Canadian riff is from Mama Let Him Play by Jerry Doucette. ruclips.net/video/UwsqoTugSK8/видео.htmlsi When you get to Australia, don't forget The Angels and Rose Tattoo.
ruclips.net/video/1s6l7ax3_UE/видео.htmlsi=UM8kHZExSQ-RFxGj This is my go-to 90 percent of the time, and then I fiddle with it. It's my core classic rock / Rush preset, but with some tweaking it nails just about any classic rock tone.
I covered the crazy solo to Monkey Bars a while back. Steve actually left a nice comment on the video, saying that it was one of the best he's ever heard. Very nice. ruclips.net/video/xo3Dg2t42ts/видео.html
April Wine Roller...........oh hell yes!!!!!

The lead guitar on that song is played by Pat Thrall. Laid down one of the most killer solos ever imo.
All absolutely KILLER riffs. Super love Snortin' Whiskey!!!
Greatest pinch harmonic ever!
Thanks for the Pat Travers! PT Rocks!!
As soon as you said saccharned I thought," he must be talking about Loverboy." Nailed it! 😂 Always fun, thank you Kelly.
You made brilliant choices, and played those riffs beautifully. 🎸
Lots of great Canadian rockers. Hard to choose. Glad April wine got a plug. Fun band
All solid choices KDA. All those riffs stood the test of time.
Great choices and thanks for including Kim Mitchell

Great riffs, Kelly! I love hearing you play guitar! Excellent job! 😎✌️
I used to like Mama Let Him Play by Doucette which i think was a Canadian band too. Had some good harmony guitar.
The solo in that song is awesome
So cool! Thanks Kelly. Looking forward to seeing more of these.
Awesome -love this new lesson series -KDA rocks!
Great idea👍 Just when you thought all the ideas had been done. I don’t know about Loverboy at #4 though. Should have been more like #2 in my personal opinion. 🏆
Fantastic Stuff Kelly. All the best ♪♫♪♫♪♫
Fire reigning down from the Great White North. Great stuff and again added to my To Do list. Thanks Kelly!
I think this is going to be a great series!
I just saw Lotus Land in Beverly MA last month. They were awesome
Thought Magic Man would be there. Oh well, great list and a lot of fun! Thanks for the memories :)
Excellent list. We have had so many in Canada. It could have been a large list
Wow that was awesome 👍 thank you brother 😊

YEAH!!!!!!!!! Angel City was so good and how about The Easy Beats?
I was hoping for Triumphs American Girls riff. Would appreciate if you made a guitar lesson on that!
That is tough with no Rik in there but, we just have/had so many awesome Canuck string benders.
Great list. Glad to see PT on your list. However, maybe it should have been a top 10 list. (Where is Frank M?)
Keep on rocking KDA love your channel!
I saw Limelight coming, I'm not Canadian but I'm your neighbor here in the Pac Northwest. Great choice 🤟
That April Wine riff reminds me of the queen song “Tie Your Mother Down”
Great show Brother!
For Australia there is Airbourne, Wolfmother, The Chats, among others.
Love the riff by country idea! when you get to Ireland please consider a track called Dearg Doom by a band called Horslips, its a monster 🤘🏻
Pat Travers Band- Gettin Betta!!
Outstanding!
Canada is divided on many fronts, but music is a binding force. You could take a +40 person from the West Coast, one from Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, and the East Coast and chances are they would agree on very little.. except Canadian Classic Rock.
Great vid KDA.
Great idea! A suggestion for Aussie - Angels “No Secrets”
No Triumph?
I do love the opening of Snortin' Whiskey. 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Shout out to Men at Work for Australia...lol. Great Pat Travers! I'm partial to Frank Marino.
That’s a great top 5!
Loved it!
These songs are great. My personal #1 pick is "No Time" by The Guess Who.
Had to be Limelight! Love it!!!!
Om so exited i just cant hide it 🤘
Love them all.
I can't believe that after all these years (and seeing him live) that I didn't know that Pat Travers was Canadian.
Obituary uses Snortin' Whiskey as their intro song. Never fails to get the crowd pumped! 🤘
Good channel 👍
Hey KDA, Awesome!!😍✌
Thanks mate!
Snortin Whiskey has to be my #1! That nasty squeal puts it over the top. Not Fragile by BTO and No Time by The Guess Who would have been strong contenders for me, but I can’t argue with your list. 👍
Great video and Hello from Ottawa, Canada.
This is gonna be good
Hey Kelly, how about sometime teaching us some Goddo riffs/songs? I loved those guys, even though they weren't well known in the states ..... Sweet Thing, Oh Carol (Kiss My Whip), Too Much Carousing, Rosie (Just Hang On) .... to name a few .... 👍🎸🎵
“Cock On” by Goddo. Greasy good riff
was hoping for 5 great rush riffs until i heard the rules ! rose tatoo worth a look for Oz
I had forgotten how awesome Pat Travers is. Grew up listening to him, Ronnie Montrose and Frank Marino. 3 of the greatest underappreciated guitarists ever
Great idea.

Pat Travers! 💯🎸 “Life in London”, for me 👍
A good friend once told me to never trust a guy with 2 first names. Now, along comes Kelly Dean Allen and just ass ends the applecart. ARGGGGG
All great choices, but i keep hearing SAGA’s “on the loose”, and wishing it was in here somewhere!
“Twentysomething” by Slik Toxik. Killer intro riff 🤘🤘🤘
Lerxst plays it a bit different: pinky never leaves the b on the g string when he does the B, A, E part. See what Im saying? Not that it matters or anything, good job!

Not choosing a Rik Emmett riff is like rating the top Canadian goal scorers of all time and not mentioning Wayne Gretzky. Shame…
"Shame shame" by Harlequin is a great riff
Kinda hoped you were going to show me how to play the intro to Sail on, Sail away?
Triumph Aldo Nova Honeymoon Suite Rush Working Man April Wine I like to rock. Headstones have some great riffs also. Maybe go top 10. Thanks, though, awesome stuff.
Headstones for sure, RIP too loud!
You want a band from Australia, check out Carson and their song Moonshine. The live version is here on RUclips. Would make an excellent lesson.
That Loverboy riff kinda grabs you by the boo boo! Hehe
All great choices though 👍
Yeah, it's a pretty solid opening riff.
Rush is a dominant force. Personally, I can listen to Anthem all day. BTW, where does Triumph fit in? Rick Emmett must have something deserving of mention!
You could throw Eagle Rock on the Aussie one. Maybe you can figure it out so I don’t have to?
Love Working Man from Rush
Can’t believe nothing from Rik Emmett and Triumph Live for the weekend is my favorite
Born under a bad sign by pat travers band , best cover ever.
My favourite Canadian riff is from Mama Let Him Play by Jerry Doucette.
ruclips.net/video/UwsqoTugSK8/видео.htmlsi
When you get to Australia, don't forget The Angels and Rose Tattoo.
Have you ever heard of The Kings? I wish you would do Return of The Prince
moxy honeymoon suite?
My favorite riff by a Canadian is taking care of business by Randy Bachman. Followed by Ohio by Neil Young
Yeah I wasn’t a big fan of Lover boy but they did have some cool guitar riffs
Great… more… more.. PT.. LB
KDA, what is your signal chain?
ruclips.net/video/1s6l7ax3_UE/видео.htmlsi=UM8kHZExSQ-RFxGj
This is my go-to 90 percent of the time, and then I fiddle with it. It's my core classic rock / Rush preset, but with some tweaking it nails just about any classic rock tone.
What software do you use to learn songs ?
I'm old school. I learn everything by ear. It's what I'm most comfortable with.
New Orleans is Sinking...The Hip.
Dude more Steve Shelski please. The solo to Devil’s Deck.
I covered the crazy solo to Monkey Bars a while back. Steve actually left a nice comment on the video, saying that it was one of the best he's ever heard. Very nice.
ruclips.net/video/xo3Dg2t42ts/видео.html
BTO Philip sayce Anthony gomes?😊
Thought The Hip would have snuck in there and made the list.
No Triumph?
There are many great riffs by Randy Bachman
A few examples of great Randy Bachman riffs that are not 1-4-5 = I don't have to hide, second hand, tramp.
Triumph 🎸🎶
These riffs are making me regret listening to my wife and buying bookshelf vs floor speakers!
What about Helix? They never get any love.
Do Norway. All Ronni Le Tekrø 💪
How could Rik Emmett not even receive an honorable mention?
Rik Emmett
Frank Marino for the win !
Love the riff to Strange Dreams. Almost included it.
