Which Is Worse Getting Screwed By The Ex Wife Or Discounting Impounds

  • We see a lot of scenarios while doing this job that remind us that vehicles get repossessed for more than just the reasons most people would assume. Keeping an open mind can really save you from saying or doing something embarrassing. This is a big part of why I personally don't pass judgement on anyone prior to rolling on a new assignment. We also spend way more time on impounds than involy repos yet are always asked to give a discount and this is episode shows why I don't like impounds. It's all part of the job though so we take the easy with the hard and keep our options and our minds open.

Is this a worry for you or not really? I live in Australia (Brisbane) and I know we could never leave our cars running and walk away, it wouldn't be there when we got back, especially in some suburbs around Brisbane. Hey Matt, you can disable your seat belt chime. Here's what I found on google, they also tell you how to do it in Fords owner manual. Keep up the good work, A true professional!
You can Deactivate the Belt Minder. There are 9 steps you need to follow to deactivate or activate your Belt Minder system. Before doing so, make sure that:
    •The parking brake is set.
•The truck/car is in Park (automatic), Neutral (manual).
    •The ignition is OFF.
    •All doors are closed.
    •The driver's safety belt is un-buckled.
•The parking and headlights are OFF.
    Then follow these 9 steps:
1.Turn the ignition switch to ON, but DO NOT START.
2.Wait for the safety belt warning light to go OFF(1-2 minutes).
Steps 3-5 MUST be completed within 60 seconds!
3.Buckle, then un-buckle the driver's safety belt 3 times, ending with the belt un-buckled.
4.Turn on the headlights, turn off the headlights.
5.Buckle, then un-buckle the driver's safety belt 3 times, ending with the belt un-buckled.
After step 5, the Safety Belt Warning Light will be turned on for 3 seconds.
6.Within 7 seconds of the safety belt warning light turning OFF, buckle then un-buckle the safety belt.
This will disable the Belt Minder if it is currently enabled, or enable the Belt Minder if it is currently disabled.
7.Confirmation of the disabling of the Belt Minder is provided by flashing the safety belt warning light 4 times per seconds for 3 seconds.
8.Confirmation of the enabling of the Belt Minder is provided by flashing the safety belt warning light 4 times per seconds for 3 seconds, followed by 3 seconds with the safety belt light off, then followed by flashing the safety belt light 4 times per second for 3 seconds again.
9.After confirmation, the deactivation/activation of the Belt Minder procedure is complete.

Two things Matt FYI. First, just so you know in the future, the power steering pump also runs the power brake booster on these trucks. They have "hydroboost" brakes, so if you lose power steering fluid, you will also lose power assist for the brakes. Second, you can turn off the seatbelt dinger. It explains how to do it in the owners manual, or you can just google it.

its very easy to disable that seatbelt dinger..
    Before starting:
    - ignition is OFF
    - truck is in Park (P)
    - the parking brake is ON
    - both front seat belts are unbuckled
    Follow these steps:
1 - turn the key, but not all the way to start the engine
2 - wait about 1 minute until seat belt warning light goes off. Once off, wait 5 more seconds before starting step 3
You must complete steps 3 - 4 within 30 seconds.
3 - buckle and unbuckle the belt 3 times. End in unbuckled position. The warning light will turn on.
4 - With the light on, buckle then unbuckle again. The light will flash for confirmation.
Do it all again to turn the chime back on.

Unless you plan on driving a lot during the day, don't buy a diesel. Diesel engines were built to be starting in the morning and ran all day, not started up driven away to the store, shut off, then started up driven back home. So many people though do that today and often have trouble. Unless you plan on driving a lot at one time during the day, hauling, or towing, avoid buying a diesel pickup. They're great trucks don't get me wrong, but they aren't for the drive around town, mall crawling, grocery getting people. They're built to work LOL. I too would love a 3/4 or 1 ton Dodge Ram Diesel 4x4 with a manual transmission of course, but I don't do enough driving to warrant the cost of a diesel pickup, nor the extra maintenance costs associated. Not to mention the higher fuel prices.

That is a good idea for the windshield mount for the lights. It is not just useful for fiberglass body cars or convertibles, but also for aluminum body cars. Ford is moving toward aluminum. The new F150 is all aluminum. In fact I left a comment in a video a while back when you picked up and F150 and the lights would not stick to the hood (because it was aluminum) asking how you would handle that situation.

hey RepoNut Matt theres a neat trick on these that will get rid of that stupid seat belt dinger, next time before you park it turn off all of the accessories like the wipers lights radio and everything then turn the truck completely off and make sure your seat belt is unbuckled, give it a minute or so then turn it back on without starting the engine, the idiot lights will all turn on and turn back off like normal but seat belt light will stay on, wait on it for about a minute and a half then the light will turn off then smoothly but fairly quickly buckle the seat belt and take it back off over and over again [I think it takes 7 times on and off if i remember correctly and you have 20 seconds to do it, you dont have to let it retract just buckle and unbuckle] until the seat belt light on the dash flashes a couple times then turns back off again then the stupid dinger will be gone and if you want it back for whatever reason just repeat the process, its worked on all of our Ford work trucks with the annoying dinger except mine which has a radio that is stuck in the on position [I accidentally let an electric motor slam into it and it broke the power/volume knob so its stuck on lol] I always wear mine on the road and its saved my life before I'd hate to imagine an airbag slamming someone not wearing it but that annoying chime drove me nuts starting the truck and warming it up or driving around the shop parking lot or the farm ding! ding! ding! ding! ding! good luck with it and it may take more then one try our 2010 f350 took twice I think because I was buckling and unbuckling it too fast, I love watching your videos very interesting seeing how repoing works, its like a reality TV show that's not full of stupid dramatic music and made up bullshit lol, thanks for taking the trouble to upload these!

Wait, will they not even tell him how much she owes? That doesn't make any sense at all. In order for it to be cross-collateral, they would have to both be on the account, wouldn't they? It sounds like the bank views it that she is on a completely separate account, one they will not even talk to him about, but view his truck as her collateral because once upon a time they had a joint account? That can't be legal. Either the things are linked, or they're not. They can't be linked enough that they can repossess a truck, but unlinked enough that he can't even find out what he CAN pay to get it back!

It's also the first time seeing your sky cam, nice for those cloaking times and not being spotted. Finally, thank you from this Western New Yorker for the magnificent view of the mountain range and afternoon sunset. Wonderful informative video all around thanks again.

You can use ATF in a pinch as a replacement for power steering fluid. You can also use water as a trail side replacement for brake fluid.

Also... Just FYI. Navistar (International Harvester ) built ALL of Fords diesels. The 7.3 was a great engine. The next 2 engines were crap... And Ford decided to build there own after that, and the transmission too.

I know about the power steering going out. Mine went out a few months ago. Took about 2 weeks before I had time to get it fixed. You really learn how strong your arms are when you dont have power steering. Its a work out. Mine ended up being the sensor on the pump blew up and caused the fluid to leak out. Worked until I stopped then it all just dumped out.

This is truly a sad situation. That poor guy is soo polite and he deserves to get his truck back . He’s making the payments and he should take her to court & get his name off of her loan and be held accountable for her own actions& bad dealings . Sounds like she’s not a good decision maker and has gotten him into a situation that he wasn’t even aware of . Just bad all around . Hopefully he’s not doing to be the one holding the bag .

Speak of the tracking devices ...
But you'll like this even better. I was under a '98 Pathfinder last month. The truck is a two-by so I'm a little amazed to find a transfer case, with it's compound-bent lever hanging off of the back of the transmission. One notch on the lever and the drivetrain is cut in half. On the other hand, the driveshaft would still run the output half of the transfer case. Quien sabe ...

Using magnetic tow lights on non-magnetic surface: If you have access to the underside of the fiberglass surface, get yourself a couple of strong neodynium magnets, and put one under each tow light. The magnetic pull should be enough to keep the surface sandwiched between magnets (would most likely work on windshield too...)

Good point about the window mounts for the brake lights...with the new All Aluminum F150s and other brands not building steel bodies anymore... that window mount system may get a lot of use in the next few years!

  • @TodaysWord7

It's good that you stop and work with those people to help them. Your magnetic lights won't work on the new Ford trucks, they're making the bodies out of aluminum now.

Power steering issues on Super Dutys....definitely familiar with that. I once drove an old 7.3 that had issues with power steering fluid coming out from under the cap. It turned out the mechanic had refilled the power steering reservoir with power steering fluid after replacing a busted hose. He forget that the 7.3 uses transmission fluid as power steering fluid, instead of regular fluid.

have the people that make the dolly covers sew a piece of metal into material with one side metal , the other side just meterial , think of a pillowcase with only half a pillow in it , use steel say at least 1/4 inch thick , lay it on the roof , and close the flap in the doors , stick the light to the metal , and ride , it will stay put , I have two sewed into old blue legs I used to use on T-top cars back in the day still under my seat lol

REPONUT For the lights , what about some stronger magnets & a piece of metal that you put on each side of the windshield but they must have some protective layer .( Rubber would be best & they have strong earth magnets that are really good ) Last it is very easy to make a piece that would hold once the door is shut that holds a "L" shaped bracket for metal for the lights & you put a padding that makes it work *Metal must be flex easy or a good strong plastic that has your flat metal braced to it :) Does this help ?

Question is is did he know that his ex-wife put his truck up for collateral? Because if he had no knowledge of it how was that even legal. Doesn't he have to sign off on leaving his truck as collateral. Cuz she can't just put someone else's property on collateral and she doesn't pay and they go and take their stuff. So either he knows and signed off on it. Or she forged his signature and committed fraud.

If that truck was in both his and his ex's names, then the loan company that gave HER a loan with the truck as collateral messed up big time. You have to get BOTH signatures on a loan if the title to the truck is in both names. If that had been me I would have REFUSED to pay anything on that second loan, and DEMANDED verification of debt amount and signatures on the loan paperwork in writing within 15 days from now.
Once this guy proves through the paperwork that his name is nowhere on the loan application and that the company that gave the second loan on had a copy of the Title to the vehicle which showed BOTH NAMES, they can no longer hassle this guy for payment on the second loan his EX took out, they can no longer report anything to his credit and must clear anything already on the CR from their company. All they can do is go after the EX for the money, good luck with that..
