I'll be buying this soon, my needs are pretty minimal and this seems more than adequate. I don't expect to be going much higher than 315 on squats or 225 on benchpress so a full rack just seems like overkill. Plus I like the ease of getting the barbell out for deadlifts, rows, and other exercises that start from the floor.
very informative and well organized review. I've been eyeing this model for a couple years and in a few months I'll be movie into a new house that will allow space for a home gym. so I'll be picking this bad boy up soon!
I have this rack and I’m actually spray painting it black with red accents today. Great review and I have the same issue and thinking of going to look for something to replay the rubber on the j-hooks.
Kobe Lebron it definitely holds more than 600lb, when they brand it they were just assuming that 600lb was a safe enough weight where it was enough for the average person and wouldn’t wear the rack. I’ve put about 700 lbs on the rack and no damage, I don’t squat that but I store around that
Kobe Lebron ya it’s a great rack, a little paint chip(idc)but it’s a home gym so the only person it matters to me is me lol. It seems durable for a lifetime as long as you taking care of it
Yeah, your safety arms need to be lower for your squats. Your thighs need to be about an inch below parallel in the bottom position for a full range squat. Mark Rippetoe’s Starting Strength videos on you tube are great for proper form and technique. Nice video and stay strong
Rack looks great. I do recommend that you learn how to do Tbar rows correctly. Form is not good and your wasting time by not working your middle back /lats properly with that move. Just my 2cents backed by 48yrs training and 40yrs as a pro PT. Lift safe and wise.
very informative. thanks. fyi, you should go lower on your squats. Quarter squats does not count. Ass to grass but if you can't do that far for whatever reason, thighs should be parallel to the floor.
I've heard that this particular rack is a little bit wide and it creates some issues as far as the spacing between the sleeves of the bar and the J-cups,, have you experienced any problems with that?
Ive been saving up to buy this, will have enough by the end of this month so Im stoked for that. One question what is that attachment you are using @ 1:20 ? Looking to purchase one for myself right now.
I Think Imma Buy This Dawg! Aye I Noticed I Had the same problem you have, I Ordered a CAP 310 lbs Olympic weight set from Wal-Mart and the 45 lbs plates were small (just like in your video here) they measured *430mm which equals 16.9291 not (17.72″) and they have the ''nerve'' to have them Listed as 450mm (17.72″)!! Man I'm Pissed!!* A 45 lb plate diameter measurement is supposed to be 450mm (17.72″). This is the IPF (International Powerlifting Federation) and IWF (International Weightlifting Federation) regulation size. So Where is a good place to buy ''Accurate'' 45 lbs plates with specs 450mm (17.72″) That measure and weight correctly to IPF (International Powerlifting Federation) and IWF (International Weightlifting Federation) regulation size.? Thanks.
Hi! Yeah the rack is pretty good. As for the weights, dont be too disappointed. I like having 45s a little smaller for things like deadlifts. They're easier to slide on and off. Where can you buy regulation size? Not sure, but I know Troy and VTX brands are the regulation size.
@@KentsGarageGym Aye Dawg, Not Me I Cant stand those small 45's lol...I'm Old school, its something about Having 315 on and doing reps and the sound from those plate just motivate you, well me! lol So Where can I Buy those Troy and VTX 45lbs Plates from at a reasonable price. BTW Just subbed also!
Jlui83 the new one above from this one can have the main high bar lowered and adjusted for dips. For this one... you could buy attachments, but I wouldn't. It would just wear away at the supporting bars.
very good review ... your squats are no good...just stop doing them... it will do you more good to not do they way you do than to do them the way you do.
@@KentsGarageGym Do you by any chance still have the manual or anything that has contact info for the FITNESS GEAR company? Mine has a manufacturing defect. I don't have the receipt. Dick's are being dicks about it and won't do anything. And I can't find the company's info anywhere. (note: It is NOT Fitnessgearusa.com ...they seemed a bit annoyed!). LOL. The holes for my j-cups don't line up from one side to the other. One side is almost an inch higher than the other. ANd, given the plate on the back of the top and the hole patters for top and bottom I know it is put together correctly. Mine is off by an inch...so the bar sits crooked no matter what. Drives me nuts.

wackamoleremix you won't regret it. It's still the most useful thing I have.
Been thinking about this rack. Thanks for the review.
Excellent review. Well worth an upvote.

Doesn't it hold 600 pounds? I don't know why people complain about that. Small percentage of people in the world bench or even squat 600

@@gaberrs2331 good to know brother . Because I got one 1 month ago. Is it still working out for you?

I've got the $600. It's not great, but it works. Ideally I'll upgrade when I can afford to, but for $350, it's hard to complain.
Nice rugs! Bro you are blinging it up
Nice review bro!!

They dont count..? Why.? Cuz u said so..?
I was cringing a bit to see he was squatting with highly padded running shoes on. Looked like it was affecting his depth and stabilty.
And form
Josh Mckennon lol I can already tell you quarter rep 225 and brag to you’re friends you can bench two plates. Hahaha
Josh Mckennon look up basic squatting form and mechanics. You are not squatting anywhere near low enough.
“Squat all the way down” then does half squat
Thank you for a great video!
I need something that can be in the outdoors any recommendation ?
I'm thinking about this weight set and a pair of bumper plates for deadlifts since the Fitness Gear 45s are smaller than usual.
Yeah they're not bad for tacking onto the end of a long bar that already has some 45's on there.
Good review. Forgive me if I missed it, but what are the square tubing measurements? 2" or 3"?
Yea, what are they?
What is the capacity of the weight bar holder and pull up bar do you know? Im a little chubby ~290lbs not sure if I can do pull up with that
I've heard that this particular rack is a little bit wide and it creates some issues as far as the spacing between the sleeves of the bar and the J-cups,, have you experienced any problems with that?
No, it's felt pretty normal to me. There are some racks that feel more narrow than this though.
That is a steal!
I dig it
At least you have more range of motion with those 45’s
Did you bolt it to the floor? Where I want mine isn't possible to bolt it down to flooring.
Nope. I think the weights that are put on the rack keep it pretty stable. No need to bolt.
Can this covert to dips?
Ive been saving up to buy this, will have enough by the end of this month so Im stoked for that. One question what is that attachment you are using @ 1:20 ? Looking to purchase one for myself right now.
That is a Rogue T-Bar attachment. Not a bad investment. I think there are cheaper alternatives though.
Wonder if anyone found a J-cup/J-hook replacement for this rack? I couldnt find one that fit

@@CumminsN14DBest Thanks! to be honest I think the best place to buy is Craigslist. You should look for plates at around 50 cents per pound.
@@KentsGarageGym OK, Imma Check that out Dawg!
Have the same rack - I replaced those crappy J hooks with ones from GetRx'd. Mine got ground down to dust in a few months by my Ohio power bar.
Ah! Can you send a link for the GetRx'd J hooks? I might need some new ones.
Awesome! These are the ones that fit on your Fitness Gear half rack, yeah?
Yup - pics here imgur.com/a/dZvB9
If only fitness gear J-hooks had used a better quality padding. ah..
Plate storage won't hold std 450mm plates
Anyone with this think you could do rack pulls at the connecting end of the spotters? If so how much you think it would hold?
How does a half rack compare to a full squat rack?
It's just a little less sturdy than a full rack, I think.
What brand is the 45% leg press?
Cybex
Anyway to add a dip bar to this rack?

Now that everything is sold out these go for 600
Does anyone have the instruction manual link or can email me it on how to put this thing together?
I need one too bro.
Turn around and face the rack when doing your squats...
Why rugs?
Ha! I had a few spare trash rugs that I was using for padding. I upgraded to rubber mats recently.
2:14 "N-word grip pull up bars" for doing n!%%$# grip pull ups.
very good review ... your squats are no good...just stop doing them... it will do you more good to not do they way you do than to do them the way you do.
this rack is cheap and big and good durability . so this is very good rack. but now homepage is shutdown..
psillion paseion the link in my description still works.

You seem like a nice guy, but those squats are pathetic. Youre about 4 inches too shallow. and no, never hit your safeties on the bottom. Nice gym.
