- There are 4 main reasons why your chickens can stop laying eggs. I also say what you can do to help them start laying again:)
1. Stress could make them stop laying. - Watch them and look around there coop for anything that may stress them out.
2. New chickens to the flock can stop the laying process. - Introduce new chickens to the flock slowly.
3. Not enough calcium. - Oyster shell is a great fix for that!
4. Your chickens can be in a molt. - More protein can get them back on track!

I usually have a talk with my 3 hens. It helps .
+Arboga Jim, ha ha ha! I hear you there:)
Egg shells can also be fed to provide calcium and also does cost any money because you feeding them back their own calcium they provided.
+yaw acheampong, I hear you there but it just never sat right with me. I always thought they would start eating there eggs so I just use the shells for other projects:)

It's always a joy seen your voices and learning something new I hope all your chicken are doing good god bless
Thanks Joanna and God Bless you as well my friend!
Mine stop laying when ever it's time to negotiate a new contract. That's what I get for buying teamster chickens.
BCtruck, rebuild, repair, repurpose, well, never know when they can lose their contract;)
wow this helps a LOT :D why I think our chickens laying eggs is because my dog keeps stealing them...its weird because they started laying eggs in the winter...I don't know why...:S
Thank you for educating me.
Have you heard the Purina (who is owned by wicked Nestlé) is purposely putting stuff in the feed to stop egg production (maybe removing by the oyster shells, as you do knowledgeably point out)? Many have had to go to local feeds to get their hens back up & going with the laying of eggs.
Thanks for the video. It was informative.
nice video man thanks for the informations.
+j yusuf, no problem at all:) I always love being helpful!

Good Information. Thanks
+txhypnotist, happy to help for sure:)
All three of my Ameraucana chickens are moulting but one of them still lays an egg. I bought them oyster shell/coral shell supplement that should help them out
I got guineas in with my chickens would that make my chickens to stop laying
Great video,we've got 9 hens,3 Buffs,3Barred rocks,2White Leghorn and 2 deleware hens.Last couple of weeks i slowly integrated a younger chicken we rescued who is still too small to lay, which for those weeks was in a dog kennel in the coop so they could get used to seeing her everyday.I finally let her loose in the coop with the rest a week ago.Ever since i did,we gradually got less and less eggs.Went from 8-9 a day to our lowest today,3😕.Which prompted me to look it up on youtube and bam, your video was the first j watched. It makes sense now. Will they ever start laying again around this young hen or should i seperate her completely from the 9 original hens? Thanks for your time.Frank&Family in San Antonion Tx
Hey Frank and Family:) If they are not beating on her and they are all getting along I would say do not separate them. The older ladies will get used to the new girl in town and start laying again. If you do separate them it is likely that you will never get them to accept her.
Home Farm Ideas Thanks for replying.Theyre not beating on her, they just let her know where shes at in the pecking order.Ill keep monitoring them👍.
It will work itself out:)
Mine stopped laying roughly 2 months after i stopped giving them feed and just let them graze. Noticed some stray feathers too so I think I may have a possum getting at them. Definitely buying more feed and locking them up better at night
Stress also causes stop laying eggs.
It takes too much energy.
So it might not be the feed after all.
Just make sure they have a safe sleeping place.
Lock m at night if needed.
They'll be fine 😊
It's funny to see chickens dig with their feet... I like chickens... They make good number of eggs... I always prefer eating eggs from my backyard chickens, not the inorganic eggs available in the markets.
HELP ME I AM SO CONFUSED! Whay do chickens even lay eggs??? is that like a normal activity for them - one egg here one there... it can be a little chicken or an egg we eat...or they don't naturaly produce egg we eat but they only produse little chickens for reproduction purposes when they 'feel' that they need to? Because if they are producing egg just like 'piece of cake' why are vegan so against consuming eggs? Is it only because of the circumstances in which are chickens producing them (like in small cage, under the light?) --> because if that's the only problem they could just easly go to a local farm or something like that??? HELP ME I AM CONFUSED (AND VERY SORY FOR MY POORLY GRAMMAR) THANK YOU!
What feed do you feed your chickens thank you
Scratch and Peck
i move their cage out to my backyard in the day, and back in the shed where i put them at night, does that stress them? Because they stopped laying eggs.
Do you know how I could find my free range hens eggs because they don't lay in the nesting boxes
Try putting fake eggs in the nesting boxes it help me but I had 32 chickens so not all of them did only 8 hens found the egg and started laying there
Can you give egg shelves to the chicken? Like after you boiled the eggs, then crushed them.?
yack f zay, yes you can but make sure they are crushed up good. You don't really want them looking at the eggs as a source of food:)
That's good to know. Than
Happy day
*****, old habits are hard to break as well;)
*****, it a roll of the dice. I don't give them egg shell because I have lots of oyster shell in my feed:)
I had two chicken before but the I live didn't allowed, so I gave them away. Sad to say. But now i'm thinking about getting chicken again. Have to do my research before I get them. The new place I live, the neighbor here I seen chicken running around and people walking goats.
Happy day
we did add one new hen a few weeks ago and the egg count has gone way down from 12 to only one today. Do I get rid of the new hen or will they start laying again. They don't seem to peck at the new one as we put her in a cage for 4 days near the others and then released her. Tell me what I should do
+Leigh Yarger, things will be fine:) Just keep her and they will start working on laying eggs again.

No problem:)
Hi
A have 6 hens and a rooster and one of the hens has 10 eggs she sits on but she’s in the same place as the other hens and then the other hens stopped laying eggs and that confuses me
you don't need oyster shells after eating your eggs. wash them and dry them up then crush them up and feed the hens the eggs. ;)
gabe roach, I hear you and a lot of people to do that but I have also heard of people that do that start to complain about their chickens eating their eggs. I don't personally feed the eggshells back to my chickens because they may start eating the eggs themselves.
they wont eat your eggs if you dry them and crush them like an oyster shell i've been doing it for a year they only eat it if the egg breaks.
Really helped But if i put new chickens and they stopped laying eggs do i seperate the new chickens?
+Charging Active, If you want egg production to resume then yes but you need to acclimate the new chickens so you might have to deal with the chickens not laying eggs for a little while. They will get used to the new chickens then start laying eggs again :-)
Oh Thnks!
You are very welcome Charging Active:)
Why chickens do not lay eggs after two or three eggs
I get them off and they just go right back to what they were doing as soon as I leave
Several people had to change their feed to get them laying again!
That’s probably Purina, who’s owned by Nestlé. Stop buying their feed.
I don't have a rooster and I have two chickens that keep sitting on the eggs trying to make babies how do I make them stop????????? plz help.
Jesse Gallego I’ll trade you I have chickens that keep laying eggs but don’t ever sit on em
