- BEST QUALITY ON RUclips!!! # A scene from 1979's "Elvis the Movie" starring Kurt Russell. It was made 2 years after Elvis died, and 2 years before the other major Elvis biography "This Is Elvis" hit the cinemas.
Kurt did an amazing job portraying the King in this- a really, really great performance throughout the whole movie.
Vocals were overdubbed by Elvis soundalike Ronnie McDowell.
It was directed by none other than Horror supremo John Carpenter.

@@Victor-cr5rr i watched that, the film was frenetic, chronologically a disaster and overall pretty awful. Butler wasn't awful but, in my opinion, not a patch on Kurt Russell.

say what you want about Kurt Russell... but who else do you know that can say they kicked Elvis on screen in 1964 on "It Happened at the World's Fair" and then 30 some years later play Elvis in 2 movies, Elvis, The Movie" "3,000 miles to Graceland" To Me it was an honor for Kurt to play the king... Congratulations Kurt...job well done.
How many got to kick Elvis? That's a very short list. I don't think Elvis would let anyone get away with it without a fight. He wasn't a timid man.

Still the greatest portrayal of Elvis on screen. Attention to detail of his moves on stage etc and performance quirks are impeccable.

@@soundwavesuperior28 No doubt Austin Butler was absolutely fabulous portraying Elvis, but you have to remember, he had two years to study Elvis. I watched the movie twice. Elvis was only deceased for two years when Kurt Russell played him in this film. 1979 was a different time. He didn't have access to all the video clips, interviews, private trips to Graceland & time spent with Priscilla & Lisa Marie that Austin Butler had.

@@LucretziaB Honestly, as far as the 70's are concerned, "That's the way it is, " aloha from hawai ", and "elvis in concert" were more than enough to learn Elvis moves and mannerisms. Kurt Russel acts like these vegas elvis impresionnators trying to be like Elvis. Why add those move Elvis never made ?

i was and still a huge elvis fan ever since i was 2 yrs old. im 52 today. i remember when this hit tv. was so excited and watched it. it made front cover of our local paper tv guide. i have to say kurt russell played him and this role extremely well. loved this movie. i was 9 yrs old when this debuted 79 i think..
The voice is what makes it. It's not his voice and it's not Elvis' voice either. It is Ronnie Mcdowell, the greatest imitator of Elvis' voice. Together they are VERY close to Elvis. Ronnie lMcdowell loved Elvis more than anyone, God bless them both.
I agree, the voice is perfect...if you told me it was Elvis, I would believe it, its so flawless. Ronnie McDowell was a genius. And Kurt Russell delivered the best screen portrayal of Elvis, that I have ever seen. It was otherworldly, like he truly WAS Elvis! A spectacular movie. I saw it again the other day after many years and it still holds up as a terrific, fast moving historical bio.
Actually Kurt did Burning Love, himself as well as Tutti Fruti.
Ronnie McDowell did the rest. Kurt asked if he could do a couple on his own, and after listening to him on those 2 songs they gave him the OK.

Für mich war Kurt der beste Elvis-Spieler und hatte in gewisser Weise fast das Aussehen von Elvis, und Kurt zeigte den Elvis die verletzliche, rebellische Seite von Elvis und wie der echte Elvis die Menschen verzauberte., To me Kurt was the best Elvis-played and in a way almost had the look of Elvis, and kurt showed the Elvis the vulnerable, rebellious side of Elvis and how the real Elvis enchanted people.
If the academy awards head honchos didn't give Kurt an award or even nominate him for his impersonation of the King, then WE the public do! His is by far THE BEST re-enactment of Elvis Presley that I've ever seen.🤩😍🥰🔥🔥🔥🔥👈👍

There is no way you can capture the essences of Elvis. Elvis was the most unique human being. He had the face of a Greek God which can be seen in many statues from that era.The way he moved the way he spoke, there was and maybe never will be anyone like him.
Kurt is a fine actor and he did what he could playing Elvis. But no one could ever portray the charisma of Elvis.

This gives me goosebumps. At the same time I was going to see Kiss and Ted Nugent, I also went to see Elvis twice, at the peak of his comeback shape and voice, right before his sudden decline into obesity and death.

Yeah....I agree...impersonators often look corny...Kurt did a decent job acting but his on stage time sucks....And then you add the terrible Ronnie McDowell singing...Or at least trying to sing but instead just doing an awful vocals performance...Kurt does a pretty bad on stage performance....He however probably could have sang closer to the real deal performance than the terrible Ronnie singing spot.. Kurt's dance and everything else though could probably not have been any worse.

Ronnie McDowell was the one singing that sang the sound track for the movie, Kurt did a great job of portraying Elvis. but that is all it is it's a movie, they made his nose to big. There is only one Elvis everyone else is an just trying to imitate the man. and only a few can do that and it still isn't the King.
