Parabolic barrels rock! Love my DSR more than my CS2 and M3s :) love it more than my RSX too even with XL barrel. Stock wise the XLS probably wins but I think the DSR wins when you get all the aftermarket upgrades. Bwing trigger, upgraded feedneck, and upgraded bolt and can make it the best gun out their.
If you chrono to 280 with a 5 inch control bore then switch to an 8 inch control bore of the same bore size you'll see a small jump in velocity and will have to turn the velocity back to 280 (or whatever your field limit is). So it does matter a little
@@austin7561 I have both lol shocker is easy to maintence but you should maintence after every game , Gtek doesn’t really need maintence keep it clean make sure dirt is all inside and your honestly chillin
I will tell you how old i am.When i started playing, the only marker you could play with in the UK (as a punter at a field) was the original splat master pistol, with 10 shot tubes and the goggles had very small motocross style face plates.Ahhh those were the days lol.
I enjoyed shitting on the ion and sp as much as the next guy but its def not an ion. Just not having all those stupid tubes and banjo fittings makes it 100x better
@@jp89il ....no the shocker rsx and xls are ions internally. I own a 4x4 shocker, gen e matrix, 2 shocker SFTs, and several other "vintage" markers. I definitely remember. Thanks for trying
I know paintball isn’t the same as ballistics but length of barrel does matter for the amount of propulsion used. There is an ideal length where combustion is complete and there is no further acceleration by having a longer barrel. Surely paintballs follow the same physics with air. At what point does a ball no longer accelerate down the barrel? I doubt 8” is so long it creates drag
It's not. I've done my own testing and even a longer barrel tip, which doesn't touch the ball will give you an added boost. I went up to a 16 inch straight bore before I noticed the average velocity dropping BUT............it depends on your settings and your gun. Basically because shot volume and valve open times change the amount of air being released. That being said.......for practical usage it doesn't matter. Get whatever you like. You won't really notice much difference . If you have your heart set on a new barrel or kit.......get the longer control bore just because why not? If you're using an older barrel that's working just fine stick with it and save money for paint.
Its too long. Jake has control bore envy and maybe something else. Shocker xls. Dont have to worry about eye pipe breaking dye on/off sucks and barrel kit for dye 300
I’m looking between a Xls shocker or a gtek 170 and the shockers barrel insert (idk what it’s called) what’s the function of it? I don’t understand someone please help :p
actual barrel barrels backs are normally WAYYYY smoother on the inside even the cheaper ones are smoother.... if freak had ultra polished version I would be all over it but they are basically just standard tubes of aluminum... alot of the higher end barrels are so well polished they feel smoother than glass
@@boostedreefer1041 my barrels are like glass buffed beyond belief & I can't under bore I know that other barrels feel like ball is being dragged I love doing 1 size over bore & I have no issues that way
Shocker XLS all day. Lighter, better barrel, better feed neck. More room in trigger frame and more space between trigger frame and fore grip. Regulator maintenance is easier on the XLS. I see the thought behind the design of the eye pipe but I don’t like or agree with it. It’s just something you can lose on the field since it’s not fastened with anything or break. Plus eye covers allow for accent colors. Dye has always over priced their guns since they know their sucker fanboys out there will pay for it.

False. The Parabolic Phi barrel is the best barrel in paintball hands down, statistically. Paintballs on average stop accelerating after 8.65inchs after being fired, at that point friction occurs and slows down the ball. The Phi solved this issue by creating a one piece barrel system drilled at 2 different sizes in opposite directions for the longest control bore or any barrel and the less amount of resistance. Putting this barrel on will roughly increase your fps by 20 to correctly bored paint. Thank you :)
If they stop accelerating at 8.5 inches how can you ever raise your velocity? :P They don't...thats how lol. As long as the pressure behind the ball is greater than atmosphere and greater than the energy needed to overcome friction........your ball is still accelerating. Change guns, change the weather, change your settings and the optimum length changes. The PHI barrel uses a smaller step than most barrels to conserve pressure behind the ball, past the control bore. Essentially it's like adding more barrel length. However since the second step still isn't touching the ball, you split the difference between the benefit of a longer bore and the benefits of a two piece. 8.5 is the safe number where you can still manufacture a two piece barrel(which has it's own advantages) while also being fairly efficient AND keeping the sound signature reasonable. If you wanted ONLY efficiency then you could easily use a longer barrel with a tighter bore to scrape up every bit of air propulsion. Most people aren't willing to sacrifice those other points though. Things like the ability to shoot through a broken ball, being able to swap bores(two piece) is cheaper than swapping entire barrels(straight bore), long barrels don't tuck into bunkers or gear bags as easily, barrels with porting and steps usually have better sound signatures, two pieces are usually lighter. Few people are willing to sacrifice all of that for 50 more shots on a tank fill. It's not a logical choice.
Lmao Allen keys for battery removal even the Etha 2 doesn’t even need that. Throw that in with bad reliability and 170r in the same price range why even go shocker? DSR all the way no competition.
Michaël Pujda Both very good guns. Can’t go wrong with either no matter what your game is or performance wise. Just comes down to personal preference in ergonomics which each gun has it’s own approach to. The XLS has a thinner, lighter and slightly tighter feel to it whereas the 170r has a thicker, heavier, and slightly more stretched out feel to it. The XLS(or RSX) is the lightest gun on the market so if you like a quick to rise feather in your hands you’re not going to beat it as far as weight. Shot quality is the same for the most part although the XLS has a slightly more quite shot. Everything else is just splitting hairs between the two really. The 170r does have tool less eye access which is nice but every gun needs an allen key at some point. The Shocker board kills batteries a little quicker but it’s more user friendly and the OLED display is brighter and easier to see in broad daylight. I like the XLS more for a purchase personally because I play front and offensive(snake if I can get there on the break). If I played back more defensively more often I’d probably take the 170r. Since the latter is the case for me I like a lighter and tighter XLS. I also like and prefer the(in my opinion smoother) scythe style trigger the XLS comes with. That and it comes with the Freak XL. Cheaper to buy and multiple bores to match whatever paint you’re shooting or forced to shoot at whatever temperature or weather that can effect the paint. At only $15 a piece over buying multiple one piece backs at $50 a piece, the XLS is cheaper to get to shoot ropes with.
