The modern Cobra
Very similar in spirit, but with a few more creature comforts ;)
@@FlyinMiataVideo …👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰
Right?! I can’t imagine how cool it would look with a modern looking side exit exhaust. Something like the viper side exit 🥶
I have always been a Miata enthusiasts and felt like too much HP would make the car too difficult to maneuver and enjoy all the things that make a Miata a world renowned roadster. You have done magic Keith. I know you spent many hours engineering this design and starting with the ND is not a bad place to begin. I would love to put Randy Pobst behind the wheel and see what he 🤔 thinks. This rendition of the Miata is definitely on my bucket list.
I've actually chased Randy around High Plains Raceway with this car. He was in our turbo ND with the same suspension and tires. I learned that all I need to keep up with Randy is a 300 hp power advantage!
Well I was thinking about putting some kind of forced induction on my Miata... But now it looks like I'll have to save up for the whole V8 package 😂
“This car is on your side” !!! I just love that saying…!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍
Great video. Thanks for the scenery. I remember driving this same road (and the tunnel!) in a rental car and thinking "what a shame that my Miata stayed in the garage, on the other side of the atlantic".
We're definitely lucky to have these kinds of roads close by!
One day, I hope to convert my 2018 RF. Love FM!
Drool... It's a modern day ac cobra without the total death trap package. Such a cool car.
Spectacular scenery! It would be a fun car on the small and twisty New Hampshire roads I drive, not so much during frost heave season though.
Have Mazda ever come to look at any of the equipment FM make for the Miata, or the engine conversions?
It all seems very well engineered, and the reviews I've read indicate that they give genuine improvements to the handling or performance of the Miata.
They're certainly aware of us and we have a good relationship with individuals. Officially, they do not approve, but on a personal level there are FM parts on cars in the Mazda parking lot :)
I just got a 2021 mx5 trim level grand touring hardtop jet black I love it’s a fun car
Nothing here to say, it’s just cool sharing a nickname with this badass ride
Amazing! 🤩
i waited 16:35 to hear a 3 second pull... open it up man!! ur driving a V8 Miata!
We have lots of other videos on our channel of this car showing off its performance and making a lot of noise. This video was about what the car is like to drive and was filmed on a very twisty road.
Makes me think of the Sunbeam Tiger for nowadays!
One day my Ceramic White ND1 is going to get an LS3. Ever since I rode in Indy, I want a V8 Miata!
Same here bro cant wait to do it
What's the cost for this mod? If it is 100k I rather get a Porsche or corvette. Lol
Awesome car
It puts a smile on your face, every single time you're in it!
I had the distinct pleasure of riding along in Habu in 2018 and MAN... y'all built a great car. The CANBUS integration is choice too.
Do you mind me asking what ratio you run on the differential? Have you thought about changing it higher/lower?
It's got a 3.73 rear end, which was chosen based on our experience with the other generations. We're pretty happy with it.
Thanks all!
Is the power plant frame retained ? And if not are there any downsides to its removal and how would that be managed ?
The PPF is removed. The structure of the car is beefed up to handle the extra loads at the differential, which has the nice side effect of adding some rigidity to the chassis.
I need that car
Niiiice!
It's such a cool build!
The Ford Cobra was originally built on an MGA chassis model.
I would own a Miata if it were a bigger car. Love the design purity of the car.
For the money, I would prefer a Corvette...pick one, C5-C7 with a stick...convertible or hardtop.
That thing must be a blast to drive. Congrats on building it and sharing your talent with us.
Lmao then it would no longer be a miata if it was a bigger car, plenty of bigger options out there but youll never get that nimble experience of a miata
I agree but only every so slightly bigger. Maybe an inch or 2 wider and same longer. Just to have a little more shoulder and leg room really.
If it was slightly smaller then a 997 911 I'd be all over one it'd be the perfect size
Shame they don't do this anymore. Wonder who else can do the same job with this kind of love.
V8 Roadsters
I’d love one! Interesting that they didn’t need/want to upgrade to 5-lug hubs.
That's more a question of vehicle weight than power. We and our customers have run LS Miatas on four bolt hubs for over 15 years without a concern.
Does they selling this cars?
If I remember well... miata's gearbox (at least in terms of prior generations) is not the strongest one.
What modifications has been applied to drivetrain?
The transmission is a T56 Magnum and the differential is from a Camaro with custom halfshafts and driveshafts. All of these parts are capable of handling these power levels in much heavier cars, so they're understressed in this application. The only Miata part in the drivetrain is the rear hubs.
Nice, but what we really need is the bbr 220 kit for the nd2, and a tune, will u guys ever have a tune available for that kit?
We tested a number of the naturally aspirated BBR kits and were not able to duplicate the results on North American cars. Thus we decided not to offer them, especially since the BBR turbos are so effective.
@@FlyinMiataVideo can I just buy a european ecu, replace it with the north american one and use bbrs tune?
@@Sideways_Singh You can try the BBR tune on your north american ECU if you'd like. We don't offer it, but BBR does of course.
@@FlyinMiataVideo bbr said there tune does not work on north american ecu's, dont know if thats changed now. Thats why to get the full 220hp i think a european ecu would be needed to install the bbr tune on it. Would the european ecu be plug and play tho?
@@Sideways_Singh We do not have the answer to that question.
Bad azz
Perhaps this could be a Newfie racer (just add Martini and Rossi livery)?
Sure would be fun! Needs a bunch more cage to meet tech for rally, but it would be very effective over the road.
What was the inspiration for the name Indy?
It's an ND chassis Miata. ND...Indy. Sorta sounds the same. Nancy is an NC.
We also had two other NDs at the same time, Andy (again with the ND) and Jones. Why Jones? Because then it was Indy, Andy, Jones.
We amuse ourselves.
Vibration!
In the camera, not the car :)
👍
what about a V8 124 spider?
Should be possible using the same components.
A small part of me is secretly hoping something will happen to my stock engine so I have an excuse to do this.
Careful what you wish for. A huge amount of work.
"Oh you bought a tarts car?"
😡 "NOoo, mines got a V8, it's a hairdryer for real men!"
Is this Miata CARB compliant?
It is not, unfortunately.
It's interesting watching the tach while you're driving around. You're running roughly 2500-3000 rpm most of the time. Considering all of the torque available, that seems a bit high. I tend to upshift mine at around 2000 rpm when I'm just cruising ... it's not like you're going to lug that V8 at light load in a Miata. Maybe you were running more revs to make the engine soundtrack better?
The ASA cam in the LS376/525 engine isn't all that happy cruising at 1500-1800 in lower gears. It's happier being above 2000. Also, that just made it easier to talk while driving on a curvy road with some tight corners without having to think about it :) There was no real need to upshift.
@@FlyinMiataVideo I had the ASA cam in my car for a while, and it **sucked**. Going to a camshaft (not the HotCam) with 1-1/2 degrees of overlap made my car much more street friendly. Some work on the driveability of the tune (OK, 370+ iterations) got me the ability to cruise in 6th gear down to ~1000 rpm, and 31 mpg highway.
@@grubinski Yeah, we usually pushed the stock E-rod cam which I think was advertised @425 for the best streetable version for our customers. I personally like a lot of chop and usually keep the revs pretty high. But....that's a track car.
I have an NC. Wonder if this can be done on an automatic?
Anything is possible with enough time, money and ingenuity!
Didn't you guys stop building these? If so, do you still sell all of the parts to DIY?
I asked them that question a month or so ago. They don't make them anymore, and they don't offer parts "at the moment". So the video is kinda pointless IMO.
@@etotheroc43 100% pointless, if that is true. Why pique interest, only to shoot everyone down??
The video is to highlight an interesting build, and to highlight the car because it is currently for sale on BAT. Link in video description.
The video is definitely not pointless. Miata people like seeing interesting Miata builds, and we're highlighting the car because it is currently for sale on BAT. Link in video description.
We no longer do any V8 conversions for a complicated list of reasons. More info can be found on our site here:
help.flyinmiata.com/fm-v8-conversions-r1NoEAs0I
Is it for sale
Yes, it's currently listed on Bring A Trailer.
cost?
It sold at action for right about $100,000.
Was this a re-post from several years ago?
This is all new content and new video. Not a repost!
@@FlyinMiataVideo any chance this means you'll start the turn key program again? :)
@@slidemx5384 No, unfortunately. More info here:

@@FlyinMiataVideo Thanks for clarifying. This has been my dream car since seeing it 5 years ago. I would love to have this ND setup and be CARB complaint.
There was a potential way forward to make that happen, but it was going to take significant investment with no guaranteed success.
So……how much will it cost in total cuz I wanna do dis to my Miata too 😅
We no longer offer this conversion, unfortunately. Sarasota Super Sport Performance has since taken over the program, and they should be able to provide a cost estimate.
@@FlyinMiataVideo nah man I’m just saying that how much u paid for modifications
Can I order one and get it sent to Germany?
This very car is up for sale on Bring a Trailer right now, so it's ready to go to Germany as soon as the auction is over!
Die Frage ist wohl nicht wirklich ernst gemeint. Oder? Wenn doch: ruclips.net/video/q_sH0dsXoDQ/видео.html
Can Flyin Miata make this in Automatic?
Technically it would be possible, but the packaging of the automatic would mean a big loss in passenger footwell.
Soo.. it's not called Habu anymore? 🤔
Habu was our name for this family of cars (like "Miata" or "Cobra"), Indy is this specific car. We name all of our shop cars.
This is one of the reasons why being tall sucks. My MK 1 & Mk 2 mr2s were perfect for me. My S2k was a pain in the ass because I had to crouch down to see past the roof line and this car doesn’t accommodate me at all.
You know, with a properly positioned bulge in the hood, you could probably get an LS9 or LT4 shoehorned between the fenders. 🤔🤔😍😍😛😛🤙🤙✌️✌️
Sadly I heard that the EPA has demanded that guys stop the LS swap kits. Hope you guys are able to find work around.💔
That’s not what happened at all.
@@FlyinMiataVideo Thank God
FM doesn't do this anymore so why are they advertising it. They gave this up more than 3 years ago
This video was posted when Indy went up for auction in late 2022.
🤔🚫🧢💯💪🚐💨🏁
Just an observation. But, somehow talking about how pliable and manageable it is to drive took all the fun out of it. This amazing awesome thing should be slapped around and instead the whole video looks like you’re going to get groceries. Maybe a different host/driver next time
We live here. We can't "slap around" a 500 hp car on public roads. And if the driver is too busy managing the car, he can't talk about it.
If you want to see the same driver in a similar car (slightly smaller engine, NA chassis) on a closed stage, look at the Targa Miata channel. There's no narration by the driver, he's busy.

@@FlyinMiataVideo The hypocrisy makes my eyes roll. What do you think other drivers do with the mods you sell? What have YOU done on the roadways. Please take your holy than thou attitude somewhere else. I’m sure you all at Flyin Miata are pillars of the community. Keeping up appearances might be important to your business model but the vid is boring. Sorry that hurts your sensibilities 🤪
@@zanemadden8101 We test and exercise our highest performance cars in controlled environments and we encourage our customers to do the same. That's not hypocrisy, that's good sense. And it's not just talk - we started a local track day and autocross organization 15 years ago because there wasn't any way for local drivers to push their cars.
The purpose of this video was to talk about the car and its characteristics. We have other videos on our channel of it being driven hard, they might be more to your taste.
I’ll take an NB with 300hp instead
Cool story bro
An off topic comment: the hood footage is horrible, there's some sort of image stabilization fuckery going on that doesn't work as intended because it's focusing on the wrong objects, and the end result is almost nauseating. Disabling the image stabilization might improve it.
Everything is good good good and nothing is bad. Lol brag brag brag. It's a small accomplishment if that's what you have to do all day for months on end till you figure out how to put this together. Sling new parts at something. But guess how much it costs now you got to spend two days explaining why you would buy something like this instead of a beautiful fast car
I want one. With flair fenders to fit 245f/285r tires… no. I need one.
We think everyone should have the experience😁
