I love how google street view Germany is a flashback to like 2008
Unsere google street view bilder sind so alt die könnten theoretisch auch noch von damals sein, kappa
I once looked at the house I was going to move into on Google Streetview and saw a Quelle on the otherwise of the road. I thought I was having a stroke but then I remembered
The building I currently live in doesn't even exist on Google Streetview. Talk about next level privacy protection! Also randomly found a Schlecker store on the Germany map once, lol.
Clarification edit - the city is covered, the street as well, but instead of the building there's just fields, it wasn't built yet
And then came Datenschutz
except when you live in the east of germany. everything there still looks the same as in 2008, or rather the same as in the early 90s.

If you know how German license plates work, yes. But you can combine that with the sign that says "Lotto Bayern" (Lotto Bavaria) and the word "Süd" telling you that you're in southern Germany. :-)

E - Essen
N - Nürnberg
M - München, MA - Mannheim, MZ - Mainz
K - Köln
AC - Aachen
F - Frankfurt am Main
S - Stuttgart

"Messe" is basically what we would call a conference centre.
@Kev Bates The subject "Messe" has nothing to do with the verb "messen" witch means that you take a ruler f.e. and measure something. "Messe is, like the comment said, a big conference hall, usually there are lots of sellers with a stand doing advertising to a special theme f.e. cooking, living, cars, elektronic, traveling and so on. Sometimes concerts or sports events are happening in a "Messe"-hall. But you're right, you use it also as a holy-"messe" in church. "Messe" has the same deep meaning (coming together in a hall) but you rather translate it with worship
I guess a better translation would be "trade fair", so you will find it in almost all larger cities in Germany.

It's so weird to see you moving through my home town. And it's just the scaffolding company which is from Bornheim, north-west of Bonn. :D
Nice to see you here!
You did well with the clues. I was just glad you didn't find a Messe, as that would have thrown you off potentially. A Messe is a local fair, which you find in many of the bigger cities.
You had a sign at 20:40 which had a strong clue. The names of big towns are often abbreviated on signs. In this case, that's H., which really can only be Hamburg or Hanover.
8:34 has a sign "Lotto Bayern" (Lotto Bavaria), telling you roughly where you are. It's Munich or Nuremberg at that point. You remembered correctly to have seen a sign say "Süd" (south) in that round, but that means you're in southern Germany, not in the south of the city.
Come back to Germany, it's nice to watch you play the few Geoguessr rounds we have. :-)
And the blue Streetnames. Nuremberg is like the only place in Germany using blue signs fir streetnames
@@theonly5001 Are you sure? I live in Marburg and we have the same blue design. I know Hamburg has them, too.
@@renerpho I've only seen them in Nuremberg. But others might use that color too.
But since Streetview in Germany is utterly useless i haven't been taking a closer look.
Actually, the "Süd" does mean South of Nuremberg, I live here and the Southern Part of the City is called "Südstadt" by the locals and many buildings, shops, etc. are called "something something Süd" in that part of the town. The rest of what you said is true tho.
Near the Lotto Bayern you could see the unblurred license plate with a prominent N

I hate it that there is Street View only in the big cities in Germany. Almost all other countrys in europe have street view in all of the country. I would love to see my house in Street View, but my town has a poulation of only 30000. Great Video so far btw.
Greetings from Germany
Well guess why that is. Its another one of our "ancient" laws.
My home town of 1800 people has a Street View, even better when i zoom in on my yard i can see my ass poking out of my car as im hoovering the cabin and my dog going mad at the google car 😂😂
ERROR 404 sorry but that’s absolutely not true.
Google are to blame, they simply didn’t want to process the blurring inquiries for house owners which do absolutely NOT ancient but modern privacy protection.
Google pulled out!
my family hates being in streetview.
And if there's street view, you can bet that there was some bonehead who wanted the house he lived in blocked from view.
just there... at the start of Dresden, in the Josephinenstraße i got a ticket because someone turned the signs!...

More perfect score country challenges! This is a great format.
Well, if this isn't weird. I stumbled across your Mission Across Wales series on Reddit a while ago and watched all of those since (giddy for part two of the Scotland series). Anyway. Didn't much care for the Street View content, but being German, I searched for Germany in the hopes you'd land on a city I know. And not only did you land in Nuremberg, where I live, you literally walked past a flat I lived in until 2018. Said the street name out loud as well (flawlessly, I might add). Walked past the park where my dog used to misbehave towards the few dogs smaller than him. Honestly felt unreal.
Not-so-fun fact on the side: The little shop to the left at 7:28-7:35 (was or still is a laundry in fact) is where one of the murders of the NSU (National-Socialist Underground) took place, back in 2001 I believe. So, yeah, there's that.
As someone who lives in Hannover I was mad excited when I recognised those familiar looking busses! Happy and proud you did well in that round 🤗
I used to live there as well and immediatly thought Üstra
I did something else while watching the video, but the moment you said Siemensstraße and I saw the scenery, I instinctively knew where you had to be. I grew up in Erlangen, almost never went to Fürth or Nuremberg, but something about the buildings, the trees and streets in that area is always immediately, recognizable.
7:28 Thats my dad, his name is Rolf not Wolfgang!
"Messe" just means convention center
So that's basically always a dead end on geoguessr
Also the address on a construction site is generally the address of the construction company, which can be a red herring
Messe is the german word for a convention center
I think Bornheim is where the scaffolding business is from
29:28 as a german, that was funny as heck.
thank you for the laugh.

I was born and raised in Bornheim near Bonn. I am very happy that this small town appeared in your video, at least by name.
Randomly watching this video and the first thing that happens: my hometown pop’s up. What are the chances..?!
When playing in Germany it pays a bit to know the local state flags, Baveria obviously often uses blue and white, Baden Württemberg often uses black and Yellow. With Berlin you may see the bear and so on.
When looking at posters, they will often use local colors. Not always, but there is a good chance.
Also the region can help. Baden Württemberg is rather hilly, so going through Stuttgart would result in a lot of up and down going as well as some mountain edges for example. Lower saxony is rather flat and you can see quite far. And a lot of other giveaways you probably know.
Don't rely on signs. Germany is missing those. I can't even drive though cities here despite them only being a couple of minutes away. You get lot a lot. Try using big companies and Stores as orientation. Our cities have weird layouts that can help aligning where you are using those.

In Germany you can also go by the houses. There are basicly no red brick houses in ther south. Some churches maybe but not the living houses. They are usually in the northern or northwestern half of Germany. You can also go by Telephone numbers. if it starts with 07 its Baden Würtemberg, 08 its southern Bavaria and 09 is northern Bavaria. The others you have to lookup
Küchen means kitchens, Kochen means cooking btw. And Kirche means church. Messe means fair. Zentrum means centrum, usually thee middle of the city.

You did a great job. I don't know if you know the German License Plate meanings, but at 8:41 the Plate of the Bike isn't blurred out, you can see a "N" so you could think it's Nürnberg. Big cities always have only 1 letter as a License Plate. Except for cities with a big Harbour like Hamburg, it's called "HH" because it's a "Hansestadt" - - > "Harbour City" (But then there exists another City with the Letter H but that's Hannover so it's a bit tricky)
But I guess you already know that
Wie gefühlt alle Kommentare von Deutschen nur weil es in dem Video um Deutschland geht haha
