In addition to getting more shards, if you use Nesting Dovehawk's populate to copy a shard that is cloning a creature, you get a permanent copy of that creature. To quote a judge I checked with, "Yes, the copies you create will be copies of the nonlegendary creature that the shards were themselves copies of. The new copies don't have a duration on their continuous effect. The copy effect applies indefinitely for them."
Damn so if you make your shards token copies of nesting dovehawk itself before combat then at the beginning of combat you get to make 2 more copies of nesting dovehawk that you get to keep.
7:04 I was considering adding Angel of Destiny. But I’ve since realised that Niko turns shards into token copies UNTIL the beginning of the next end step (as opposed to turning them into shards AT the beginning of the next end step). Key difference here being that the angel copies turn back into shards as a state-based action before the triggers for end step are checked. Meaning none of the “loses the game” triggers will go off, you gain a decent amount of life, but that’s it. I have since substituted it with Beguiler of Wills as a homage to the “good-hearted” nature of having 18 Angels of Destiny flying at opponents.
I think the blink Niko isnt too strong. If you are thinking of making a blink denk I would prefer Brago or Yorion or Abdel. Don't forget to put enough wincons in it!
Another great card is nulldrifter. Tap 3, it enters the battlefield, you draw 2. Blink it. All your Shards get annihilator 1. It comes back into play, draw 2 more cards. Significant value engine
@@benashley4837 I dont care about the card draw. If I have 8 nulldrifters on the field, forcing an opponent to sacrifice 8 permanents can often cripple them so much that they wont be able to recover. The amount of tempo loss from that interaction and to do that every turn is substantial.
@@benashley4837 Oh but you're right I was a little wrong on the initial comment. I foudn out after reading thec card a little closer. * but ya it is a cast trigger. I care more about the annihalator on it though
@@verzen I made the same mistake when I Included it in my list, a Reddit user told me about my mistake, however I've not cut it because of the benefit you've just said
I just built Niko as a clone deck. Sure, there are much better options... but i think it's funny for a player to drop some huge creature only for me to kill them because of it.
Oh! I love this list! I was looking for fun ways to build Niko and this is it!
Awesome! Let me know when you end up playing it 😁

Forgot to mention that, that is definitely awesome!

Extremely cool list, just jammed it in the playtester while listening to this and it's great!
Add in identity thief. It's a way to get around the no targeting legendary rule and it also blinks your own commander.
I love that one 😁
Nice video guys - great tech ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Great video! I was planning on building a Brago deck, but would you consider this to be a lot stronger?

The deck list isn’t working 😢

Great card! Annihilator 1 is still fun
You won't get the second draw 2 as unfortunately it's a cast trigger and not an ETB, still a good include however
