Thank you so much for your tutorial series on bath bombs, they have been very helpful ......and I'm still eagerly waiting for part 4 ! I am new to making bath bombs and have been experiencing many a problem with drying them, and the bombs retaining their hardness. I hope you will find the time to come on here again and do some troubleshooting with us soon!
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I changed to grapeseed oil and use mica for color & had to adjust the alcohol for Michigan climate, and my bath bombs are AMAZING. Thank you so much 😍😘
Thank you. FYI. you're the first person I have watched that puts there Citric acid in last. I thought I was the only one who did it that way. Great video.
so excited!! i just made my first order from your website! I'm a local make up artist, body artist & face painter! I'm hosting a girls beauty spa birthday party and will be using these products for this event! I believe they will perfect to add some exciting color for beauty spa make over !!
I have tried probably 12 different bath bomb recipes and they always come out powdery. Even if I added more binder. Sometimes they would be pretty solid but then they would sink like a rock. This one was solid after 6hrs! After less than 24hrs they're hard as a rock!! Amazing! A half bomb I tested after 6hrs did sink, but I'm hoping after more dry time they'll be more buoyant. If not, I may switch up my binder. I did 10g of exclusively distilled water since it's really really dry where I live right now. I may do half alcohol, half water next. Thank you so so much for this! I have struggled so much with bath bombs.
If you don't want to use fragrance oil and want essential oils instead, do you need to make up for the lost wet ingredient? Should you just add more coconut oil?
I know this is an older video so don’t know if u will see this but great video. Great info and love u use weight measurements. Such better accuracy instead of using cup measurements. Also I have to say that u r pretty 🤩

i made a batch and i only added 10g of fragrance, but 10g of polysorbate because i had to use lakes for colourant.. I dont have a batch to compare it too yet as its my first batch but they feel very fragile.. will they harden when they dry or will they crumble? I used cupcake tray to make the molds, not rounds yet. I did the squeeze test and the handfull didnt break when dropped, but it was very close to breaking.. I hope this is okay.. Thanks for the great videos!!
If I wanted to use essential oils instead of fragrance oils would it be a straight substitute or would I need less essential? Your video is so helpful!
Amanda Francoeur no not a straight substitute. If you are a beginner I would not recommend using essential oils as some of them can actually be dangerous if not used properly. Essential oils are not in my wheel house so I’d recommend doing LOTS of research before jumping in with the EOs. Sorry I can’t be more help!
@@southernskyebeauty6567 I am not a complete beginner with oils but am with bath products. I do know about skin safe oils and mixing with carriers as well ❤❤❤
Absolutely! It’s really based on preference on how you’d like the bath bomb to perform. I go over these ingredients in part 2 bc each one add a different quality to the fizz. You can always start with a few grams and work your way up
Hi does it matter what baking soda i see arm and hammer but some of the boxes have different pictures so i am not sure which one. Can you please tell exactly which one or link for it?
Minty190z it doesn’t really matter- I do prefer 70% though since it’s a good ratio of alcohol to water. Climate will just dictate how much you will need.
When you do your colors in the liquid phase does it not leave a ring in the bath tub or do all bathbombs leave rings? I've been having problems with this issue been using the poly80 and SLSA i cant seem to figure it out. I use micas and put it into the dry phase. May this be the problem?

I was adding it to my dry ingredients instead of my wet. I"m making another batch shortly so I guess I can test out tomorrow after they dry.
Elizabeth Moody yea mica is quite difficult bc you will literally have to play with poly ratios to ensure you don’t get any sticking. It doesn’t matter what stage you add the mica.

Do you add the micas in dry to the baking soda mixture and then add the liquid separately like you did? I heard you say if you were using micas the color would already be in the mix.
Would using rice milk powder or coconut milk powder have the same effects? I would like to try to make these vegan but be able to keep the bubbling effect. I’m not sure if it would work the same but some of the alternatives to milk powder (for eating of course) said I could use almond flour. What do you think about using that?
Meranda Johnson I actually really love coconut milk powder. It makes large foamy bubbles while the bomb dissolves. You can definitely try it on you’re recipe but I always recommend testing!
Vanessa E. It isn’t so much what kind of binder you use... it’s how much. I prefer 70% alcohol because it’s a good balance of water and alcohol. The alcohol evaporates much faster than plain water alone.

Hi. Is this citric acid the same as lye or is it a weaker version? Soap bars are left to cure before they're safe to use becoz of the lye. Do bath bombs also need to be cured?
nina rekhi no- completely different ingredient. Yes, bath bombs need to cure in the sense that all the moisture needs to evaporate from them so they get nice and hard but you can technically use them immediately.
Bicarbonate of soda is a weak alkali and lye (caustic soda) is a strong alkali. Citric acid is a weak acid and it reacts with the bicarb to create the fizz when it hits water. So that's where you probably got mixed up. You can't make soap with bicarb but it is an alkali
Rachael Carter definitely check the manufacturer’s recommendations. Most are around .5 -2% through. Please get all information you can on EO bc some can cause harm/ injury if used improperly
Thank you for sharing your recipe! I used the exact amount for fragrance oil and it was super overwhelming making these. Is this normal or should I cut back on my fragrance since it's so powerful? I hope my bath bomb doesn't turn into a fragrance bomb lol
Some fragrances are definitely stronger than others- all suppliers should have a percentage rate for use on their website so i definitely recommend checking that. If you’re still in the “safe zone” and it’s still too strong absolutely you can tone it down by the FO!
Southern Skye Beauty oh yes lol I remember you saying that in the video. Sorry it was late and wasn't paying attention. Can I increase the Slsa if i want more bubbling action?
Crimson Crawford no worries! Of course you can increase slsa but it will slow the fizzy action... play with the slsa and citric acid ratio and get it where you like it!
I am familiar to lakes oxides but not dye. I have about a hundred colors of water soluble nontoxic dye. I purchased from a commercial dye company. Are these the same type of powdered dyes the soap suppliers sell? I really need to use up these dyes if I could use them in bath bombs that would be great. If you don't know the answer can you direct me to someone that might? I've asked the company and they yell me they are completely non toxic. I work with them all the time and have never had a reaction. My grandkids have played in it also and have had no problems other than washing the dye off our hands if we forget gloves.
All dyes used in bath bombs must be batch fd&c batch certified colours. (fd&c = food drug & cosmetics) So even though these dyes may be safe for other uses you couldn't legally sell any bath bombs made with them.
@@donnasouthwood I did some more research and discovered that. Thanks so much for taking time to read this a giving such a quick reply. I really appreciate it.

Yellow Jello 109 this is going to differ depending on the size mold you use and how hard you pack the mix. I personally got 13 of the cupcake bases from using the pink and blue (using this recipe)
Southern Skye Beauty cool. So you got about 13 of the cupcake size with doubling the recipe? Also so I’m understanding right to activate the dye you use a little bit of water and alcohol, or just alcohol?
Yellow Jello 109 because some of the colors that may be safe for food aren’t safe for cosmetics which bath bombs fall under per the FDA. Also there are other ingredients in food coloring besides dye such as sugar, among other things. The colorants we use must be cosmetic safe :) please reference the FDA website and if you haven’t already, please watch part 1 of my tutorial where I go in depth about colorants. Hope this helps
Southern Skye Beauty I made my first batch today.. but I’m not sure they will come out quite right. The only difference I used was, I used a “Glycerin soap color”. I feel my mixture is going to be too dry and not harden together. I know In the video U said it can be to wet and u can let it dry before putting citric acid in. I had the opposite effect. Also not sure if it’s because of the soap color I used or not. But I put quite a bit of color into my liquid mix, but when adding it to the dry. The color was super pale. When I tried to just add the color and some alcohol to the mix, to make it darker the color didn’t want blend. I had to hand smash it and that helped a little.. Any suggestions?

nina rekhi no- completely different ingredient. Yes, bath bombs need to cure in the sense that all the moisture needs to evaporate from them so they get nice and hard but you can technically use them immediately.
Southern Skye Beauty Thank you for the reply. I enjoyed your videos ♥️
nina rekhi you’re very welcome!!!
Milk powder?
KitchenLove Baking&Cooking yes! It adds lovely foam to the bath bomb and has lots of skin loving properties
I dont suppose you know anything about essential oils but do you know how much % is safe?
Rachael Carter definitely check the manufacturer’s recommendations. Most are around .5 -2% through. Please get all information you can on EO bc some can cause harm/ injury if used improperly
Thank you for these videos!
Does the polysorbate also prevent colorants from staining, since they're bonded to eachother?
Ery essentially- it allows the oils and water to combine (aka emulsify). The mica incorporating with the oils is a happy coincidence!
@@southernskyebeauty6567 thank you!
Southern Skye Beauty ok great! I want a bath bomb that will be Almost like a bubble bath if that's possible
Crimson Crawford the def up the slsa and recommend them be run under bath water- the agitation will increase the bubble action! 🛁💜
It's been 3 months... will there still be a part 4?
Cathe Douglas I know, I try and make videos when time allows between running my biz, being a mom and a wife and still maintain somewhat of a social life 😂🙌
About how many bath bombs does the recipe above make?
Yellow Jello 109 this is going to differ depending on the size mold you use and how hard you pack the mix. I personally got 13 of the cupcake bases from using the pink and blue (using this recipe)
Southern Skye Beauty cool. So you got about 13 of the cupcake size with doubling the recipe?
Also so I’m understanding right to activate the dye you use a little bit of water and alcohol, or just alcohol?
Yellow Jello 109 correct. You can use water and/ or alcohol as long as the alcohol is 70% or lower :)

I made my first batch today.. but I’m not sure they will come out quite right.
About how many bath bombs did this make?
Brittany Langston 13!
That one time I used 40g of polysorbate instead of 4g 🤦🏻♀️😂
I made the mistake of adding 200g of milk powder😬
The music bothers me when your talking.love your show
I really wanted to actually see the bath bombs being made
Love your series and am learning a lot from you... Thx. Plz don't be offended when I say your video wud even be better without that annoying background sound/bell/dinging. IMHO it is distracting and does nothing to improve your already good video. Thx 4 sharing.🌷
Would like better if no music plz ,love video thank you
Google can transform grams to oz for you
Brilliant video, but the music drove me crazy it was soooooo irritating.
Thank goodness for volume buttons 👍
