I always took the line “If teardrops could be bottled there’d be swimming pools filled by models” as a statement about how models, who everyone else puts up on a pedestal and who everyone thinks are perfect, are actually the most self conscious, critical, and sad people and cry far more than the average person
Billie has went through some very tuff times in her life mentally and at that time she said that she didn't want to be her self. She went through depression for so long and just recently she realized how amazing she is and that she is worth it. At one point she didn't think she would make it to the age she is at now because of how mentally drained she was. She was not happy and I'm so happy that she is happy now and realizes her self worth.
Billie released this song when she was 15. So much talent at such a young age. Many young ladies feel Billie understands and sings about what they are feeling. I'm old but I just love the beauty and emotion of the song.
I like the part she says "if teardrops could be bottled. There'd be swimming pools filled by models." To me, that sounds like something out of The Little Mermaid. Drink a potion just to be perfect like everyone else. Yo that's just pure brilliant art work into poetry and putting it into a song and it makes perfect sense. Even I dont wanna be me anymore.
Models are not happy but sad and the tears they shed can fill swimming pools. The poetic language is melodramatic but the point is she's reassuring herself in the mirror that it's okay to feel bad or insecure about oneself because that's a consequence of how society judges. It's not your fault.
Something Billie always says is that her music is up for interpretation. It can mean so many things to so many people. No right or wrong answer. But I agree with your initial thoughts. You should check out the vertical video for you should see me in a crown, and bury a friend
