I have an optomistic turning up today. Can't wait to try it out. I have a basic uninc as my daily driver, just wanted a powder hybrid. And I am a fan of YES boards.
I’m kind of the same, placed an order for the 154 this morning and my other board is a Greats 154. How did you size it? I’m 160 lbs 10.5 boots and maybe would have gone 157 but found last years model like the video on sale.
I'm about 120kg fully clothed so I went for the 161. I used to ride a capita mercury 160 wide for powder but it weren't cutting it so I chose this. It seems pretty wide as I have 9.5 DC boots uk size. I think it may take a bit to initiate the turns.
I have a YES Basic uninc and it's my favourite board so I opted for another YES.
@TheLordsaviour I rode my 154 on Sunday in a foot of fresh powder in Colorado. It doesn't float as well in the real deep areas (it snowed 4ft here in the last week so) as I hoped to be honest but is incredible in the trees for quick turns and very maneuverable for throwing spins off natural features. More pop then my Yes Greats and super super stable catching air into choppy snow and riding it out. I am probably selling my Greats to get a 156 Capita Mega Merc or Standard then get the Capita Mega Death 159 next year too. My friend has one and it actually handles deep pow really well and is super versatile. I was blown away by it.
@@nic7615 I had the merc in 160 Wide. I sold it after my japan holiday this Christmas. Just didn't like it in the deep at all
understandable. I want mine more for aggressive freestyle/freeriding when I want to be able to ride and jump switch. The BSOD is pretty great in powder from what I have seen with my friends, its supposed to be quite better than the Mercury and why I want a 159 BSOD/Mega Death eventually for days I want to freestyle and ride pow.

have 2019 optimistic and loving it so much, great for carving !
Happy thanksgiving from Canada
I got the Y in 2019 because I couldn't afford the optimistic, and loved it. I'm an aggressive rider that loves to charge, carve and ride the trees. Right now in trying to decide between the K2 Excavator and the Optimistic.
Optimistic.
After 5 years on 2018 Optimistic, I can say that it is still too stiff. haha 5’10” 160lbs on 154cm. Hopefully the less stiff version will make it more approachable. It only feels stiff when starting and slower speeds. At warp speed, the board is highly agile. Recommendations: 1) move the front binding back one set of drills (2 cm setback) this will make the board very agile, turning machine. better powder performance. 2) dial in your stance width. if your stance width is too wide it will feel like a plank. I would buy again. There are now more choices today. Many brands offering volume shifted with tight side cut. Jones 6000 looks very close to Optimistic.
Loved My 2019 154. So much better than my 157 2021. So much more damp and railed harder! Dont know what happend.
Yeah my 19 54 felt way sorter to my 21 54 although I found the torsional flex was the same
You are my go-to board guru. How does this compare to the SuperPig? Joined your VIP to show the appreciation.
Superpig has more snap out of the tail due to the camber profile and carbon layup. On edge this will grip more underfoot but won't be as quick edge to edge as that. Overall they're very similar.
Hey mate. Just posted in the Hybrid review vid. Placing here too: Hybrid or Optimistic? I know they're being discontinued, but i can still get on one here in AU. Size 13 boot, 240lbs. My year is made up of hard/icy groomers in Australia, trees and pow in Japan. Also, i want to get a smaller board. Was looking at 157 despite my weight (more nimble in the trees). Thoughts?
You could have mentioned the inferior base and less inserts compared to previous versions. Basecally this is an Y with the Powerdrive core. Still can't wait to get my hands on them this week.
Hi Avran! It's pre-season again with my questions: got any recommendations for a board that behaves someehat similarly to this board, but floats way better? The 157 or even the 161 Optimistic comes nowhere near a 164 Pin Tonic, which would be a good compromise, if it werent for that dead damp base with inaccessible pop. It's jsut not fun. Other good floaters I see are flat to rocker which is a no thank you.
203 BBC.
If a now select pro was enough for me on this board (90% freeride, 10% freeride in shitty conditions), do you think a Katana will do? I liked how the skate tech makes a wider board more controllable for my small feet (9-9.5 for the 157), but since I needed the disc offset for laterally centering the boot, I cannot have enough setback, and that ~10mm really counts. Thanks.
Extra question: I could get a 21/22 Black Label for the price of a 22/23 Katana. What do you think?
Probably want a DOD honestly, more lateral drive than flex.
How does this compare to the SuperPig? I love my pig but looking for a second board to add to the quiver I can be a little more nimble and mellow resort cruiser.
Saw your comment on the good ride and I’m looking for a similar answer lol I bought a superpig and orca but decided to keep the orca. I wanted to keep both but apparently they ride similar
How does the optimistic compare to the sashimi? Is there to much overlap or would this be a good addition for resort carving and occasional low powder? Thanks
It's better at carving and stiffer overall. But there is some serious overlap.
Hey there, how does this compare to the K2 Excavator?
Not as pow specific, little more torsional flex, little less power out of the tail.
@@AngrySnowboarder thanks 🙏
Can I wear the snow board pants without the base layer underneath, if the cold is not bothering me?
Do whatever you want.
Definitely.
3 years working at a ski resort(Australia) and I still don't even own "base layers".
@@lukedudgeon8699 Good to know. I feel I don't them in So Cal half of the time. The base shirt, though is gold, since it reduces my need for top layers.
@@lukedudgeon8699 is lightning dangerous? or do the lift poles act as lightning rods?
@@Frank020 lightning is dangerous.
We stop our lifts if there are any nearby lightning storms.
Hi,
I am advanced rider, mosty carving the groomes, no fs. I have capita bsod for bombing which is a great bombing and carving board. Now I am looking for 2nd board for chilin days, on which I can carve at slower speed, which is fun to ride, but no FS. I consider Yes Optimistic, what do you think? Any other options?
Thanks
Buy it.
Thanks! I found 21/22 model which has a better construction than current version, but only 154 is available. I am 183 cm, 100kg, eu 44.5. Is 154 too short for me?
Yeah.
How does this compare to the rome select?
It’s stiffer and has less tail.
This or the gnu gremlin for a rad dad looking for resort carving and close to the piste pow😂
I'd go with this as it's better in pow.
Awesome! Thanks for getting back to me!
I hate when boards get softened up. It's snowboarding shrinkflation! Make the standard softer so they can sell a premium!
I am optimistic that my skidded turns will have extra skid in them, with this board. I shall pray to the altar of snowboarding.
No skid in there!
This or the Gnu Gremlin for east cost riding???
Sure.
