It's similar technique. East coast swing is an American rhythm dance, jive is international standard. It's slightly slower and doesn't have as much leg action when compared with jive.
Firesidemonster this is different, this is more of a jitterbug step, and it is a 6 count step. Lindy is 8 counts, and is different footwork. Search for "lindy ladder" they have a really good instructional playlist on youtube to learn how to lindy hop.
this is 6-count basic. The Europeans call it boogie woogie and have world cups to compete in it. Lindy is a 8-count dance. I do both and it's a divine experience, let alone just fun. Once you try them in studios... the devil is not so black as it's painted. Find a swinf dance community and join in. In 3 months you're gonna find out if you're gone or if tango or salsa is more to ya taste. But beware: swing's infectious . I've given you the warning :)
This is nothing like what I saw Jim Carey doing on The Mask. I mean what is this, waiting in line to play bridge at the hospice version? Swing should guarantee you pull a muscle unless you're in shape, to weed out the less comitted.
