Wow, I wish there was more of an intro into how lucky you are to be getting free instruction from this pair. Robert Royston is the gentleman, and he was several times the world champion in both Country Dancing and West Coast Swing (again, not the jumpy jitterbug 1920's swing - FAR from it and that's basically called jitterbug or lindy now, not swing). He's dancing here with his wife who's also a great dancer. Any rude comments I've read just indicate a complete lack of knowledge of what you're commenting about. Yes, instructors give lessons and can be hundreds of dollars per session. So appreciate this. BIG time. Robert is the Fred Astaire of a different dance generation and I doubt he does private instruction.
Christine Lynn He may be a fantastic West Coast Swing dancer/instructor but he's not a lindy dancer/teacher. He's misleading in his credentials and his teaching as he is illustrating bad examples of what east coast swing/lindy/jitterbug actually is. That's why people are bad mouthing him. It's like Michael Jordan playing baseball.
There's a large range of styling opinions on what constitutes this variety of Swing dancing. I would never dance those huge sideways triple steps, nor would I dance that accordion move for the open basic. Although there are some people who doubtless dance like that, it's not typical. It looks like a west coast swing dancer's exaggerated parody of non-west-coast (eg "east coast") swing dancing. Also, most dancers don't use the pistol grip he's showing -- that's a west coast swing thing. He doesn't talk about how far to move relative to your partner or any of the slot mechanics of her getting past you. He doesn't explain the lead. However, he does make two important points: allowing the hands to rotate, and that she-goes first and that he-goes after. This man is a champion, legend and exemplar in West Coast Swing and knows a lot about dancing. That doesn't exempt him from deserved critique. I give him a grade "C" for this lesson.

Christine Lynn to be fair this is the internet. Fools are quick to speak so you're hearing plenty of them.

I've learned a great deal, guys! Thanks a lot!
I died at "there's a fine line between jiu-jitsu and dancing"
So well explained.. thank you! 🥰
So easy when they do it. No wonder they are champions! Great video.
These videos are amazing for showing the moves. I find the music in the examples to be somewhat off, maybe it's just me.
can u please do videos with those cool flips and lifts?
I don't know what kind of swing music you listen to...
hahaha , same exact thought xD
Thank you
I learned a different type of swing dance
Wow, I didn't know that Alan Harper was giving dancing leesons =O
Nice! Do they do west coast swing instruction as well?
Whats the name of that almost same move but they ended holding hand in their back?
Hmm could be a peak a boo or sweet heart.

What the hell is this "music" they're dancing to?
who's here because of a PE unit on this
I danced with a she-he once.
WAIT HOLD UP A SEC-
Breaking her wrist shows who's boss though
I sort of feel like there's no point in dancing if both dancers are wearing pants somehow.
wat
ur strange
but if one takes their pants off it would be a different dance. Did you think of that?
