  • John Good, PBC Linears VP of Global Sales and Marketing, demonstrates how effective Simplicity® technology is over the competition in extremely dirty conditions. Using Portland Cement ( a compound with extremely fine particulate), you can easily see the unphased, smooth operation of the Simplicity linear bearing while the competing bushing binds, stalls and cannot perform.

I have watched tens of videos about these types of products and this was the first to mention this caveat. Thank you.

But what happens when the Teflon gets saturated?

One of the many strengths of a plain bearing is to essentially push the majority of the debris off of the shaft and in extreme conditions bearing seals are available to minimize contaminants from getting between the inner diameter of the bearing and the shaft to extend the life of the bearing.
The liner material has a limited capability to absorb contaminants, essentially these contaminants are typically abrasive and will remove the liner material. As the liner material saturates the Coefficient of Friction can increase requiring more effort to move a given load. As the material is removed through wear the running clearance fit between the bearing and shaft will increase. This leads to the natural question of how much wear is acceptable to the application before needing to replace the bearing?
As there are many variables that can affect the wear or life of the bearing typically the best method to determine suitability in the application is by empirically testing by the customer.
