So 10% went on the marination in the ASDA slice. That's a lot. When I marinate pork or beef slices for stir frying I sprinkle the powder from Aldi (Chinese, BBQ or Peri Peri), but it's only about a tablespoon.
@@SuperLittleTyke Yeah but you aren't trying to increase the percentage of "Marinated Beef". Most of it will be a filler ingredient, water, starch etc.

Don't much fancy those. The cheap puff pastry they tend to use gives me brutal acid stomach. Would much prefer a really nice pasty with hand made pastry, but the market exists for this type of product so who am I to judge? Great vid as always Gareth. Cheers!
Yeah, I like to start my pies off in the microwave, get them warm, and then finish then off in the air fryer. The pastry gets the right texture and the pie is done in half the time compared to using the oven.
Cheers Gareth, they don’t seem too bad, as supermarket processed pasties go like. I think that gloopy cloying texture you’re describing is partly too much palm oil, partly too much thickener, both are commonly overused to bulk out fillings these days and I find it coats my tongue and puts me right off, so I think I’d go with Asda for this one, mate.
I favour Morrisons fresh made chicken & mushroom pies meself, although as often is the case, they’ve gone super stingy with all the fillings too, lately.
Well with me being a pie eater from the spiritual home of pies Wigan , I like to make my home made pies I know what's going into them and generous fillings to .. ohhh my mouth is watering just talking about it . Good review Gareth as always. Keep it up pal.

I enjoy this kind of comparison, where one supermarket price matches another, but do they quality match as well? 🙂 Really can't beat a home made steak pie, though!
Hi Gareth ,very interesting I do like your pietopsy. I agree with you get a pie from the local baker, butcher or farm shop. The Steak slices I like are locally made and sold in shops and supermarkets , Village Bakery Steak slice ( Wrexham ) and Henllan Bakery Steake slice ( Denbigh ) Not a fan of Pukka and Gingsters. Iceland Steak slice is ok. I know it says not to microwave but they are cooked and I have heated them up in the microwave take about 2 mins. Great comparison video, Take care
In my experience shopping in Aldi. Lidl and Tesco, when Tesco say Aldi price matched, they match the price but the quality is not as good. Can't compare with Asda because I don't buy much there but most of the major supermarkets have Aldi price match now.
I think the Aldi price match is a bit of a gimmick; my local Tesco which isn't a big one, must have a couple of hundred products in the meat aisle and four of them are Aldi price matched. I would be amazed if Aldi customers abandoned them because of this. I use Lidl because it's nearby - literally across the road from Tesco - and I notice they mimic the Tesco stock quite closely, then have a lot of world food on top. I was in the Tesco today and noticed they have started mimicking the Lidl 'eridanous' Greek food, even down to the packaging. I was tempted to try the gyros but the packet was tiny and seven quid!

Gaz, just as a side note.... I tried the Mayflower Curry mix that you use and it was 100% spot on! I recommend it to anyone in the UK who wants a medium spicy curry that's simple to make. It says "extra hot" on the box, but it's quite mild compared to my Indian housemate who makes his own curry... which is about 10x as hot, but delicious all the same. Again, thank you my brother!

Great news, it has to be Asda! i am biased as i work there. I still think that they are expensive from all shops, they must cost a fraction of the selling price to make. One tip, keep an eye on the reduced section, these don't sell that well.
Great comparison review Gaz I always enjoy this type of video I still wouldn’t get Asda after finding plastic in cooked meat but fair does to Asda for finally beating Aldi 👍👍
Yes, from experience of late I would buy the Asda product. Been really disappointed by any frozen chicken type products from Aldi lately. They're chilled section is usually OK
Aye it would be nice if you got a it more meat, they're more like gravy slices. Me dad used to call puff pastry all ower ya shirt pastry😅 Good vid Gareth 👌 👍
I've always preferred minced beef and onion slices, but you don't see them so much now. I think you can sometimes find them in Poundland, possibly Aldi and Lidl.
i remember minced beef and onion slices 4 for a £1 and it wasn't that long ago and they weren't too bad either you couldn't find much if any beef in them just beef flavoured gravy as were 4 cheese & onion slices for £1 with cheese flavored sauce and no actual cheese.
I just had a Tesco's version of these for lunch today. Not at all gloopy and there were definitely chunks of beef/steak. Very nice actually. Sorry not sure of the price but probably more than 88p I'm guessing.
I do like the Lidl chicken and mushroom and their cheese and onion slices. When I go fishing off of the marina sea wall ? I always add one to my snack box. I don't really go for the steak ones as they are all pretty poor. A good comparison though, so well done Gareth 👍.
We had a M&S beef slice it was absolutely gopping, I had one from Greggs on the was to Sapperfest and that was even worse I took one bite and spat it out and the rest went in the bin, most greasiest pastry I have ever eaten all seem to be made from mechanically recovered meat from bones yet people rave about them I just people have very low standards when it comes to food like this.

Now that you have compared Asda and Aldi, how about a Greggs/Asda play off. I know the price will be much higher for Greggs, but it would be interesting none the less. I notice that the Greggs ones at Iceland cost £3 for two. Wowsers! However they have the same beef content at 29% but weigh a little less at 140g per slice frozen.
You tried the Welsh Pantry pasties from B&M? The cheese and ham one is delicious. Also the steak, or beef one, can't remember which it was. The chicken and mushroom one is sort of boring though. I air fried mine.

The Asda one has 29% marinated beef. Of that, 90% is beef. 90% of 29 is 26.1%. So the proper comparison is 22% for Aldi and 26.1% for Asda.
Just what I was going to say, but you saved me the effort.
