It's the reason todays music gets so easiely forgotten, but we still listen to Black Sabbath 50 years later.
Pink floyd , black sabbath, led Zeppelin, judas priest, will live on forever. So glad your opening up to where it began.
I swear every sabbath song from the first six albums are mad
Best Metal Antiwar song ever made.
Cuts to the bone.
Heard this song thousands of times and it never gets old.
The ending wasn't reversed, it was sped up.
Welcome to the Black Sabbath rabbit hole.
Enjoy your stay.
Do Snowblind next.
Ah. One of my first concerts back in the early 80s. They were brilliant with both .Ozzy and Dio.
Hand of Doom. Off of the same album and chronicles the downward spiral of heroin addiction brought on by the horrors of war. Both musically and lyrically. It’s absolute genius, and that unforgettable bass…
You guys will love the Master of Reality album!
Nice breakdown afterwards. I understand how others think now.
"FAIRIES WEAR BOOTS" next, nuff said.
Or Sweetleaf
@@chrissandridge7655 LOL! This "Or" thing could become a long list.
More Black Sabbath :)
One of the best songs of all time, nuff said ❤️🎼🎵🎵🎶🎶
All time most fabulous !!!!! You can imagine the shock when it came out and what our parents though. My sister even painted her pink bedroom black. Mother was not amused !!!!!!! ☮☮💘💘
If I had to choose one track, this would probably be my favorite Black Sabbath track, but honestly, there are so many songs from the Ozzy era that could be my favorite, depending on my mood. Many bands have been influenced by Sabbath, and others have outright tried to copy them, but to this day, nobody sounds like Ozzy era Black Sabbath except for Ozzy era Black Sabbath. Their sound remains unique to this day.
Ozzy is one of my all-time favorite vocalists, Iommi is one of my all-time favorite guitarists, Geezer is one of my all-time favorite bassists and songwriters, and Ward is one of my all-time favorite (and most underrated) drummers. Speaking of Ward, if you think he's impressive on this studio version, you guys should check out the '70 Paris live version, where he beats the drums like they owe him money!
I would love it if you guys would react to the song/album that started it all. The song Black Sabbath, from the album Black Sabbath, by the group Black Sabbath. It is still so epic to this day!
I always go to "Paranoid" because 1. it's a banger and 2, the first BS song I ever heard so it has sentimental value.
Couldn’t have said it any better my brother.
I give it a 10.5. Trouble is, they did 3 11s.
Black Sabbath 1968-eternity🤘
Shoulda done one of the several live videos. Bill Ward the drummer goes insane!
Canadians? Welcome down the Sabbath trail my lady. ITS FUN!
Great reaction...
My I suggest their self titled song "Black Sabbath".
Make sure you secure all lose belongings... Keep your hands and feet inside the whole time... Buckle up and enjoy the ride.
Best anti war song ever and the beginning of metal
Great to hear you understand the meaning before all else. The rest speaks for itself
Black Sabbath back in the day in the very early beginnings was a blues band
This was the absolute best review of any song I've ever heard. I've been a Sabbath fan since 1971 and you educated me about this song's structure and rhythm. Great job! Glad you enjoyed it as much as I did the first time I heard 52 years ago.
This was an Anti war song from the Vietnam era n Anti government , true back then and still true today .
Good analysis of this classic track. The band were born in post war Britain and grew up in the post war recovery in Birmingham which was not a pleasant place to grow up. So they had an experience with war and the consciousness of that informed their take on the Vietnam War which this song was about as well as the song Hand of Doom from the same album.
Your best bet if you liked this as much as you did, is just start at their debut album and their first, self titled song, Black Sabbath and just follow the first 6 albums in order, they are that good and the only band that started with a similar run of awesome music is Led Zeppelin. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶
This is 1970. I'm glad you started off with the studio version for the best sound and correct lyrics. Well done! The lead guitarist and music writer is the great Tony Iommi (eye-OWE-me), who invented metal. The lyrics are by the great bass player. Geezer (Terry) Butler. Iommi's middle two fingers on his fretting hand were severed in a factory accident.
So agree on studio first, you need to hear what the 'real' song sounds like, then go for the live versions.

Hand of doom, national acrobat, symptom of the universe, into the void, to name but a few
Notice how the drums sound like machine gun fire and bomb
Black Sabbath suggestion....Heaven and Hell one of their best songs...Dio is the singer and he does an extraordinary proformance...also...Black Sabbaths catalog of music is worth checking out...many albums are solid with most tracks very good...Their first 3 albums...Black Sabbath...Paranoid...and Master of Reality are standouts. The album Heaven and He'll is a must listen as well.
Heaven and Hell, live at Wakken, is beyond belief, Dio wows BUT this is Iommi at his best, he gives a performance that only guys like Page and Gilmour put out. Outstanding! 🎸
Hey guys, I really love seeing people enjoying Black Sabbath. If you liked this one you'll really like Hand of Doom. It's about a war veteran who can't get it out of it mind and starts shooting up and all that entails. It's best if played with Rat Salad, it's a continuation and a drum solo.
Bill Ward on the drums..you can def hear jazz influence,…Definitely bkues inflienced throughout their music…top notch…you HAVE to hear The Wizard if you havent yet.
I love the early Sabbath like this. I never was a fan of the later incarnations of the band.
Fairies Wear Boots is one of my favorites. The Wizard is another.
Nobody's going to match Black Sabbath, we can't go back and repeat what was going on in the early 70's, but there are newer bands heavily inspired by this style, playing bluesy psychedelic hard rock and metal. Unfortunately this genre isn't mainstream, but then not much good rock or metal is nowadays. "Heavy Psych", "Doom Metal" and "Stoner Metal" or "Stoner Doom" are the way these bands are getting labeled. This is an extensive subgenre or spectrum of subgenres that use the "fuzzy" guitar tone, heavy bass, bluesy riffs, and psychedelic guitar solos from late 60's early 70's hard rock, often with a bit more heavy metal edge to them. Should listen to the band "Sleep" sometime. They literally worship Sabbath. They started in the 90's but got back together for an album a few years ago, and it was fantastic, try "Marijuanaut's Theme". Wo Fat is a very southern bluesy, sludgy band from Texas that plays some great long jams. Try "Snows of Banquo IV" from their most recent album. "Breeder's Curse" by Hippie Death Cult is one to check out, too; these guys are great, I heard their new drummer playing a cover of the drum solo from "Rat Salad"(the Sabbath song), perfectly. One more, with a great female singer (there's actually quite a few Heavy Psych bands with female vocalists) is Holy Grove, listen to "Blade Born" or "Solaris". The drumming, the bass, the fuzzy riff, her lyrics, the psychedelic solos, are all fantastic. There's so much in these subgenres, I've really gone down a rabbit hole with them in the last few years. It could be a hole you guys go down, too!
Black Sabbath, Deep purple, and Led Zeppelin...The Unholy Trinity.
Sabbath Rules. Now that's out of the way, first suggestion, "Hand of Doom" off this album. ( if you want to trip-out, "Planet Caravan")
Then I would suggest "Black Sabbath" off their self titled first album. The song that gave them their name. (the were originally called Earth)
Then my favorite, "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" off the 5th album of the same name. Off the same album "A National Acrobat" and "Sabbra Cadabbra"
your choice "The Wizard", "Lord of this World", "The Warning", "The Writ", "Symptom of the Universe", "Johnny Blade", " Children of the Grave" then go from there. Enjoy.
PS you will find Sabbath to be varied and diverse, more than you ever imagined. You would probably like post-Ozzy too, with Dio on vocals, try "Heaven and Hell"
Led Zeppelin. Just sayin’. And yeah, this song is incredible. Great reaction.
Guy heard it before knew were all the stops and changes were you dont get that from lyrics
I mentioned in the reaction that I have heard this song before :) so yes....but you are just stating the obvious?
You should watch Marcos' version..
Live in Paris 1970.
The prophets of the old Testament and Jesus Christ preached a dark and heavy meassage. The Revelation of Jesus Christ is dark until the last Chapter or two.
There is no best Sabbath song. Songs from the original lineup are all iconic. I worshiped at the altar of Sabbath growing up and hit every concert every time they came through NY from Vol 4 to the first 2 albums when Dio replaced Ozzy. It was a religious experience. However, if I had to cherry pick some songs to check out I would go with some of these. These should get your toe in the pool for classic lineup Sabs..
First album: Title track, The Wizard, NIB
Paranoid: Electric Funeral, Rat Salad, Fairies Wear Boots
Master of Reality: Into The Void, After Forever, Children Of The Grave, Sweet Leaf
Vol 4: Snowblind, Supernaut, Wheels of Confusion/The Straightener, St. Vitus' Dance
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath: Title Track, Sabbra Cadabra, Killing Yourself To Live, Looking For Today
Sabotage: Hole in the Sky, Symptom of the Universe, The Writ
Technical Ecstacy: Dirty Women, All Moving Parts (Stand Still), Gypsy
As great as this album is, my favorite is master of reality
13:00 Nope ... it's just sped up.
Sabbath basically just played the blues, just the downtuned their guitars, so they influenced a large part of metal and hard rock til today....
At least in their first album...
Ern 15:1 o h funeral A.
As great as this album is, my favorite is master of reality
