Hindemith was a great orchestrator and in this work the violin sings over a very large orchestra. It was first performed at the Concertgebouw in wartime Amsterdam and has never been played there since. It has never been played at the BBC Proms and yet again this year Hindemith’s music is absent from the Prom season. Please come and play this great work in the United Kingdom.
