I'd forgotten how unbelievably obnoxious those Betazoids you encountered were. If Crosby could have stuck it out even for a few more episodes, her departure could have at least made 'The Neutral Zone' feel like a season finale. Can't remember if I've made this comparison before, but this episode feels like the writer of Voyager's 'The Thaw' used it as a foundation, with Harry Kim standing in for Troi and Michael McKean for the tar monster.
@CaminoAir I've always wondered why they did it so close to.the end but not the finale myself. Seems like if a cast member wanted to leave it would be a great punch for the finale and you could even use it as a cliffhanger in the "will they survive?" trope.
