I have read the interview with Strait where he confirmed that he turned down the invite because the Opry requires so much time spent annually at the Opry. Between his dedication to his fans, and the dedication to his wife, he felt he didn't have the time to devote to the Opry. I believe the only this he ever spoke publicly concerning his daughter was when he won entertainer of the year that year, he dedicated it to her. Though yes, sources have confirmed Baby Blue was dedicated to his daughter.
I’m so sorry that your daughter was killed in a car accident. George, remember, she can hear you and will be forever in your heart. My son Kevin lost his battle with liver cancer at the age of 23. The doctors said there was no cure and not anything they could do. No transplant nothing. His tumors were all over the connections to the rest of his body and he would die on the table. They couldn’t find what happened because he was too young to have caused it himself. The doctors saw an advertisement for a siminar there & went to China because they have the most patients of liver cancer. He was hoping to find a cure but no luck. With Liver cancer you go into a coma. He did that several times. And do you know that people who have cancer or any other affliction, can hear everything if they are in a coma? Once he was in a coma for 2 1/2 weeks. He woke up even though they said he was going to die. He told me who had come to see him, even his high school sweetheart. He still loved her and asked me if she really came! He even knew the music they played. Every weekend all of his friends came, would sit on the floor and just talk. It was really amazing. I had 4 boys and they were all close. After he died, my boys always say “love you mom.” Always. Kevin was my second boy. Then I had twins. So my oldest is 10 yrs. older than the twins. They are still close. I was born and raised in Texas. I grew up in San Antonio…I now live in Wisconsin in a senior apt. bldg. One of my twins lives here in Wisconsin with his family. I love seeing them more often. His girls are gold medal figure skaters! So fun to be there and see it happen. His twin lives in College Station Texas with his family. It wasn’t easy separating them. I love that it’s cooler here and I even love the snow and bitter cold!

The commentary alluded to it but there wasn't an absolute answer. The reason why some recording artists aren't members of the Grand Ole Opry is either A: They haven't been asked to become a member or B: The artist isn't able to make the necessary appearances that had long been in place. Once upon a time an Opry member had to appear at least 25 or 30 times a year, or more, and since the Opry radio show airs on Friday and Saturday nights that meant a lot of artists couldn't be out on the road, too far from Nashville, due to Opry commitments. George Strait, for example, lives in Texas...and if he's out on tour somewhere and he happened to be an Opry member he'd have to make sure his itinerary would be built in a way where he'd be near Nashville, TN by either a Friday or Saturday to make an Opry appearance. That means he wouldn't be able to do a concert in Florida or maybe somewhere in Texas or Oklahoma on a Saturday night...he'd have to be at the Opry which pays union scale. If you're doing show dates at some theater, county fair, or some arena you get performance fee's and you may get a percentage of the ticket sales. So it's more lucrative to be out on tour going from town to town, State to State than it is to appear frequently at the Opry. I think George Strait genuinely cares too much about the Opry to have wanted to be a member knowing he'd not be able to make the required number of appearances. Now, of course, the "rules" about appearance requirements have long since gone by the wayside but George is retired...so it wouldn't make much sense to ask him to be a member now.
They have not enforced that commitment to appear for many years. That is NOT the reason any more. Clearly it is a personal thing. Even Miranda's husband Blake is a member while she declines. She does appear there from time to time however. I think the "Circle Network" thing is going to change all that. Now they need the exposure and they are all showing up.
@@robertcrump4679 Actually I did realize that was a mistake, however just before the breakup they did appear at the Opry together, he a member and she not. I thought for sure that was a setup to ask her that night. But they never ask unless they have already confirmed that a "yes" is coming. Clearly she does not want to be an Opry member. I understand that she is not a very interesting person in real life, by her own admission.
Did not think Tennessee Whiskey would be one of the answers because I know George Jones recorded that song and did a fabulous job, so I thought that song was pre-George Strait, but it was in fact written by Dean Dillon in 1981 and he wrote a ton of George's songs, especially the early ones.

I have been a long time fan and I got all five questions right and I watched my Aunt get married to I cross my heart. I love that song soo much and love the movie PURE COUNTRY.. Mr straight I love you and your music dearly
The fact is, being a member of the Opry requires you to be in Nashville every weekend, so it's great for entertainers who don't want to tour too much or don't make a lot touring (usually rising stars or stars past their prime). People like Strait, Garth Brooks, and Hank Williams Jr. can sell out shows consistently, so it doesn't make any sense to give up doing a 12 week run around the country, and make more than you can in a year being on the Opry. And record companies want you to appear on the show to promote the new album, but they want you doing a tour so they can sell records in Sheboygan, Wallawalla, and Cucamonga. You want to do those tours because, while you won't see a dime from record sales, you get every penny of those sweet merch sales.
I didn't miss any of the questions. I have loved George Strait from when he first came out country. I still do. He stayed with his roots until his leaving the big scrne. I loved his song "I Cross My Heart." I miss him.

George isn't an Opry member for the same reason Webb Pierce left back in the 1950s: Once a member, you are required to perform several dates a year on the Opry's stage, and do it for union musician pay rate. Webb missed several Opry dates back in the 1950s because of schedule conflicts, so they "fired" him, and told him he could appeal after a year. He never did. Years later in an interview, he was asked about it. He said: "Why would I want to do a show for $30 when I can do one for $2k? {1950s show money}. Members do it today out of a sense of loyalty, since many got their first really big exposure from being a guest on the Opry. It has launched many careers.

I've always heard that George turned them down because he is a "Texan to the bone," and that's where he likes to spend most all of his time when he's not doing anything music related. Therefore, he is unable to properly commit to the Opry if he were to become a member.
Im kind of glad George Strait didn't do Friends In Low Places. Never did like that song too much, but then again I'm sure if The King did it I'd learn to.
When I came to America, I never heard of country music. My American husband introduced me to George Jones. I fell in love with C/W music right away. George Jones always was my favorite. George Strait was my second best favorite. My playlist is full of George Strait songs. He has the sexiest smile and to me he is the best looking man I've ever seen. G. Jones to me was the best C/W singer artist. Now it's George Strait. MY heart raises when I watch him preform. Makes my blood pressure shoot up. To me he is the sexiest man alive, besides Engelberg Humperdink. Even in his old age, he is still one hell of a sexy looking man. But no one can beat George Strait. At 70, he is still a hunk.
I think it’s kind of odd that he didn’t take Tennessee Whiskey considering that it was written by Dean Dillon who is one of his chief contributors to a lot of his greatest hits. Dean is a phenomenal writer and friend to George.
I couldn't believe he's not a member!! But he would be proud of this old girl.....I got 5 right. That's only because I read everything I find about him and his ranch. I lost my son at a young age as well so my heart and prayers are with him and his family all the time. Love his music too. God bless 🙏 😍💖oxoxox ..

Some artists are just so good, and so legendary, they are above the Opry. Straight is one of them. Some perspective, the Grand ol Opry has a Hank Williams impersonator out front greeting tourists, but Hank himself is still banned. Screw the Opry, Hank 3 has a perfect song about it.
Num1sooner: I agree they treated alot of real country stars like second class citizens and Mr. Sttrait much like waylon, resented the "Grand old click". I like George. And I respect him. Even if he couldn't sing . Because of his integrity.
Many people don't know this, but... although George Strait passed on friends in low places. Mark Chestnutt released it on his too cold at home album BEFORE Garth Brooks released his on the No Fences album.
And that’s why I despise Garth Brooks. He didn’t bother discussing that song with Mark Chesnutt and just went ahead and stole it and put it out as a live version. Mark said he’d never forgive him for that slight. Garth Brooks will never be a class act like George Strait, his awe shucks good ole boy act is just that, an act. He cheated on Sandi with that heifer Yearwood too. I threw all of his crap in the trash long ago.
I completely agree with everything Alan Jackson said in his interview. The "so called" Country music they play on Country radio today is not Country. It is a cross over to pop and other genres!!!

I’m so sorry but George Strait is country music. He is the best country music artist period. He doesn’t need to sit at the cool kids table. He doesn’t need to sell an image. When you’re as confident in yourself as George is you have nothing to prove to anyone.
Jesus Christ is King of all things. Here on earth George, is King of Country music.
I got all the questions right!! I am a 💯 fan and have been since he first started in country music. He is by far my favorite country music singer!!! Love ya George Strait
Huge huge George Strait fan I knew every single answer
Whatever George still the king of country music doesn't matter he goes in the grand opry like a lot of people like Miranda Lambert also not a Grand ole opry member but whatever the king ride into the sunset and God bless 🤠
LoL what a trash music they make nowadays I'm not even american and this modern bs is a home
People think I’m strange bcuz on my playlists you’ll hear Pantera, Iron Maiden, Ac/dc, George Strait. I guess that is strange, oh well, don’t care, LOVE KING GEORGE 🙏
Mines all old punk plus George, Willie, Merle and others
lol... me too. If I like the song, it’s on my playlist. George Strait, Lindsey Sterling, The Peterson’s, Poison, Abba, Celtic Woman, The Doubliners, Tommy Makem, The Bengals...etc
Definitely not on my list.. Taylor, Miley, Dixie hens, Eminem, Beyonce...🤮
For me it's Anthrax, Overkill, Metal Church.... and George Strait!
He should be in the hall of fame
If you don't truly Love George & Norma Strait I don't understand.
They are just God Loving Wonderful People.
You never ever hear anything Bad about George.
George has done some amazing wonderful things for others that we really don't hear about.
May God continue to Bless them.
Best country singer for life real cowboy 🤠 love everything about him well respected
I got them all even the one about the flowers. I've been a fan since the beginning Mr. Strait has always been the king of country a real gentleman and true to the music!
As a friend and the biographer of George Strait in my 2010 bio entitled KING GEORGE, this quiz was way too easy. I was scrolling and I had to check it out.
Can’t blame George I wouldn’t want to be a member either.

BTW, Strait IS country music, he's the epitome of everything country! Thank you George!

I saw George Strait in concert when I was in high school. He looked 19 and very different from how he looked on tv.
Thanks for the great love and support you show me as a special fan of mine, and thanks for your sincere
All hail His Majesty King George Strait, the pride of Texas.
Got them all right. The baby blue one was the easiest to get if you knew George back then or even knew him as just a fan.
TRCC
George Strait is the absolute best Country singer of all time. He sits at the top with Marty Robbins and Merle Haggard.
Johnny Cash
Waylon Jennings Duh
There are so many others you could include at the top (Lefty Frizzell, Willie Nelson, George Jones, Jimmie Rodgers). But, yes, he is without argument in the top 1% of all time best country singers in my opinion
Can't forget Hank Jr!
@@BLOODY__FATALITY Or, Roy Acuff.

Was at the Dutchess County fair in Rhinebeck NY years ago playing a carnival game...laughing & joking with the man next to me...he left & the worker said to me did you know that was george strait
I got them all right, I am a fan. Thanks for sharing 😎👍
God bless you end your family. I hope your have good Holidays? I love your music. Thank you for being so nice and understand me. 🤗😊🙏🙌🥇

Long live George the KING Strait
I was told that he dedicated I’ll see you on the other side to his late daughter even though that song came out many many years later
I got all 6 questions right. #6 was tricky, but I knew it was A.
George is one honest gentleman love.him for his good sense of humor he just real cool man he helps. He is real country singer with love real faith George is handsome man he treat people to the best he can he gives to military family he give to people in neec.he is bless with wonderful career he cool an easy going. Well dress love him for his music no one can change him accept God always bless 🙏
I got them all right. Love George Strait!
@George Strait Wow, thanks for replying. I’ve been a fan since the 80’s. 💗💗
Got all of them.Seen him in Ontario great performance. He is the king.of country music.
I've always heard that George turned them down because he is a "Texan to the bone," and that's where he likes to spend most all of his time when he's not doing anything music related. Therefore, he is unable to properly commit to the Opry if he were to become a member.
As much as he’s in Texas he only preforms in Vegas ....
It's all about money.
That is what the video said.
Yes I'm a George Strait fan
I grew up .listening to George Strait
He has more #1 hits then any other genre of music in the World.
Im kind of glad George Strait didn't do Friends In Low Places. Never did like that song too much, but then again I'm sure if The King did it I'd learn to.
He’s the best! He can join anytime he wants to now! He’ll have time now to work that around his shows!
hello how are you doing, how long have you been a fan of mine?
I got all 6 wright he is my favorite country singer of all time if I had one wish it would be to meet George straight..
George Strait is the King of Country Music His music is totally awesome.
The best ever period !!!
I just love that guy!!!!
I only missed 1 which was the last one I didn’t know that he passed on Tennessee whiskey
Thanks for the great love and support you show me as a special fan of mine, I hope you won’t stop listening to my music, and thanks for your sincere
I think it’s kind of odd that he didn’t take Tennessee Whiskey considering that it was written by Dean Dillon who is one of his chief contributors to a lot of his greatest hits. Dean is a phenomenal writer and friend to George.
I am awesome bc KING OF COUNTRY MUSIC GEORGE STRAIT is my Favorite COUNTRY MUSIC STAR I just love him!!
I'm ashamed, I got every darn one of these wrong. And I love George Strait!
I honest to God got them all. Addison you accidentally said B Hospitals when you meant C.hospitals. This was fun. Thanks 🙏
The only reason George isn’t in the Grand Ole Opry is because he is the whole damn Opry.
DAMN STRAIT!
Neither George or Miranda needed the opry to be successful.....
The opry is way too hoity toity for someone like Strait.
Just as patton was the best thing happen to the 3rd army
I couldn't believe he's not a member!! But he would be proud of this old girl.....I got 5 right. That's only because I read everything I find about him and his ranch. I lost my son at a young age as well so my heart and prayers are with him and his family all the time. Love his music too. God bless 🙏 😍💖oxoxox
..
I don't know if I could see George singing friends in low places. Tennessee Whisky... I could see that.
I said the same thing on another video that mentioned Friends... The only Garth Song I can see George singing is Two of a Kind.
He can sing Boot Scootin Boogie better than the original. Or damn close. Sorry Ronnie
Just love his music 💗💗💗💗

I didn’t miss one, he’s the king of Texas!
Uhhh Friends in Low Places was also originally recorded by Mark Chestnut. Hello
He’s not a member because they treated his hero Merle Haggard like trash!!
Hello Susan, How are you doing?
George Strait, is # 1 , in My Book....
He + His Precious Family...❤️

I didn’t miss a one. Thanks
George has alway been my best country music singer. Just give it away is the greatest.
My husband left me after 10 years when that song came out. But I love all of your song. They are real and from the heart. That's why you made it big. I will always listen to your music.
Surely didn't know they had a child pass away. Ouch. Sorry to hear that and baby blue is a great song. I understand why he stayed away from Tennessee whiskey but Friends in low places is a head scratcher for me.
Most of all I know he love his special codigo 1530 he age very well he look like fine glass wine 🍷🥂😍😋
