  • I asked the marketing department at Band Industries if they would let me review or purchase a Roadie Coach at a discount, and they sent me this model for review purposes. As a result, this is marked as a "paid promotion." (No other payment was received for this video).
I plan to use the Roadie Coach in upcoming reviews and videos.
As with all of Band Industries' devices (Roadie Tuners), the device is well made, has a bright touch sensitive screen, metal "arms" to hold the device to your instrument, BLE MIIDI, Bluetooth, Wi-fi, and Audio In/Out.
The Roadie Coach is a multi-function device that pairs with a phone to provide feedback as you learn to play an instrument, and also tracks data. There is a subscripton service that offers a library of over 150 songs for $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year (as of 2024). This is a substantial savings over the Kala/Mustopia service. For pure beginners, the app includes lessons from my Berrnadette (Bernadette Teaches Music).
I have reviewed a number of tutorial tools, and this is the first I will completely recommend, as its usefulness extends past the tutorial aspect. I don't really need to track my playing time (some people will LOVE that feature), and I don't really need tutorials. But the idea of a portable recording studio AND a tuner for $199 is a very good deal. A new Shure MV88+ is going to cost just as much; and the AudiGo, another device I am interested in, is $249. Add the cost of a highly sensitive tuner, and the Roadie Coach is a bargain.
If you are starting from scratch, the base price of $199 will get you playing (doubly so if you also want to learn guitar), and the $4.99 monthly/$49.99 yearly subscription (again, 2024) will give you a lot of songs to play with.
The trap with most tutorial devices is that they simply become unnecessary with time. The Roadie Coach avoids this with data tracking, the portable studio function, and the metronome. You can also send MIDI commands through the device, but that isn't something I am going to do with the device. I would be willing to be that someone, somewhere, is doing things brilliantly with that feature.
As always, there are things I would like to see added: I would like to see a separate mount for a tripod (so the device could be used as a pure external mic), a SD/TF card reader (so you could go right to a device without using the app), and a small speaker for a metronome (why not?). I'd also like to see the case included in the price, or the price slightly raised to include it.
But these are all small points on a device that is excellent, and that I recommend. You can hear audio samples from the device in the video, and the ending is recorded completely on the device.
