I used to work the graveyard shift at a gas station as a cashier and we had a TV in there and these guys came on, one of those late night talk shows and I had never heard of them and was really close to changing the channel, thinking.... "who the hell are these nerds?" but then as soon as some of that rumbling distortion started to kick in... I was elated that I did not change the channel and I went out the very next day and bought the album!
I remember the first time I ever heard Hum. They were on the Howard Stern Show here in New York City and Howard's sound guy Fred Norris didn't want them to put the amps in the small studio Howard was in at K Rock. So Fred basically was talking down to the whole band in the hallway saying you guys can't bring the amps in because it will sound too loud and terrible. Eventually they compromised and the drummer played in the hallway while the rest played in the studio while the lead singer had his back to Fred in protest and they played this song. Howard already loved the song and they sounded INCREDIBLE shutting Fred's mouth and basically bitch slapping with the great performance. I will never forget that appearance and this iconic song !!!!
one of the most underrated alternative bands for sure during the day so glad to see em still sounding as good 15 years later as they did back when picks up chair and throws it across the room and starts to slam dance
In the middle of that song when they get into that Godly riff its as if they are normal everyday guys up to that point and when the riff starts they take off their shirts and all four become Marvel Comics super heros that are there to conquer and take no prisoners. I have felt that feeling every single time I've heard this song on the radio or during a performance. It's as if they elevate physically and rise up to the stratosphere when only the giants of music live. Damn !!!!!
Pritzker Pavilion, my friend and I flew from L.A. to see this show. It was amazing. He passed a few years later, but a good memory of our time together. Thanks Hum!
This song was one of my favorites when I was a teenager. I've been listening to it a lot lately. Must say I was a bit bummed to see them older and not as enthusiastic....and this was eight years ago. It's a reminder how fast life goes. Who knew I'd be 40 and lame so soon, it was kryptonite to the angst ridden teenagers of the 90's. Sigh
@LameWireV3 Pumping it all the way. Listening to Poe as of now. Music as good as this should never fade away so easily. At least there's Lana Del Rey to carry Poe's torch. Really don't know if its a good or bad thing though.
This music is timeless! I hope they know how much Hum means to a LOT of people. Not just the juggernaut sound but the poetry as well. But the band just looks bored with the music and with each other. Rather they not reunite and record a listless album.
6 dislikes!...must be millenials. A talented band that PLAYS their own instruments, something they don't understand. If it's not autotune, is not music to them. 😉
Where in Chicago was this?! This looks like the same outdoor place that Alice In Chains played at LIVE on NBC, about 2 years ago, playing their newest hit, "Voices."
New HUM album 10 years later, check it out, support the band www.humbandofficial.com/ (it's great, worth the wait)
and it RULES

That’s what late night tv is for
@@fobia-9024I love when the whole band comes in and blows out Fred’s ears.
One of the best songs of the 90's

Howard's studio was in Philadelphia when they were on wasn't it?
Love these guys. Last HUM show I was at was at Metro in 1995. Silverchair opened for them.
Christ, what a show.
They’re back! New album is just as good as the old stuff too
I met those guys,,, couldn't have been nicer

Almost 6 years and not a single dislike. Maybe there's hope for humanity after all.
B Edge 2 people have disliked it now because of your comment
Fucked it mate
10 year update, were at 6
Well this comment didn't age well lol
@@elijahclaucherty I'm a failure.
This was such an amazing show. I had a teacher who recorded and produced Downward is Heavenward and got me into them.
In the middle of that song when they get into that Godly riff its as if they are normal everyday guys up to that point and when the riff starts they take off their shirts and all four become Marvel Comics super heros that are there to conquer and take no prisoners. These giys introduced me to one of my favorite bands of all time (Shiner) and for that I am forever thankfull.
Love this band! 3:58 I love how the song is arranged. Epic chorus. I miss this kind of music.
One of my favorite songs of all time! Criminally underrated.
Just listened to this today. Love this song.
Thank you for this Masterpiece.
This is one of the most beautiful songs of all time.. never gets old..,
Pritzker Pavilion, my friend and I flew from L.A. to see this show. It was amazing. He passed a few years later, but a good memory of our time together. Thanks Hum!
RIP Bryan St. Pere!
Yes! I was there, front row, and it was amazing.
You still have any hearing left? 😝
One of my favorite bands as a kid next to blink and weezer.

love this band! so damn much.. I wish they could come to Portland Oregon!
Awww man. This vid made me smile :)
First time i heard this on a local radio. It changed my view in music. You can be a nerd and play the most heaviest riff
High school nostalgia right here..❤️🤟🔥

This band live = Eargasm!!
I had no idea they still played. they still kick ass.
Looks like they left a lot of the energy behind
Gunnar Thiessen what do you expect? they are like in their 50's now ;D
Gunnar Thiessen the drummer is still bringing it. The song is not as intense as it used to be, it still rocks though.
I agree
Always the same energy .... Around 20 years later.
Great !!
The end of the song, last minute or so, saves it.
still can't believe i was at this show
I thought this band broke up. man im so happy too see them playing. I hope too see them. TY for uploading this.
Didn't know avgn was in hum

What a great song!
I found hum on a 411vm i believe it was issue 16. 411vm is a skateboard video magazine.

I had no idea they were still touring, yet alone together!! Come to New York!!!
Brian St. Peere the living embodyment of John Bonham.
Great Band!
they've been here a couple of times( once at La Luna)....years ago when i was like 16-17ish. Probably never gonna see them here again though....
This song always kicks ass.

Man please god let HUM make an album soon and kick the music industry in the ass.
you’re in luck buddy! new album out now!
Hello from the future! They did and it's amazing!
in case nobody commented yet thats Chewbacca sticker number 4 in the series.

That back row audience looks so pumped up in the beginning of the video.
You could have told me this was a bunch of dads in a cover band and i would have believed you.
Fucking yes!

Nerdy ass dudes with a heavy ass tone.
10/10
M TV 1 hit wonder
Surprisingly great audio, user error with the cameraman though
What camera did you use?
Aw shit they should do a tour
It was laughable how much of a high horse these homies were on😂
are they still a band?
the best part, he just look like a normal suburban dad 😂
Do these guys still make new music?
According to the singer's studio site, Earth Analog (great name!), they are/were working on new material.

Millennials were born from
1980-1995. Plenty of us like metal, punk and rock. The Z gens are the ones that only like mumble rap and auto tune
oh hi uncle tim.
pushing 50 for these guys......damn what a band. to bad ego and contract got in the way
Judging from the number of bald patches just shows how much us Gen-Xers have aged since the glory days of the 90s. Sigh...good times, good times.
fuck yeah - great find

I used to be so brainwashed until I found this band like a few months ago.
How so?

I miss the 90s. When did we all turn into old farts?
Great video. You should use RUclips's image stabilization feature to take out some of the shaking. Thanks for posting.
Wonder how sick of playing this song they are
Or at least remotely close. Some place on the west. coast.
too many bands fucked this song up ur only suppossed to three NOT FUCKING SEVEN in the begining
Looks like a Christain rock fest lol
Does anyone in that crowd have a fucking pulse?
fucking band is so loud.
