Cameras have come a long way over the years, and you no longer need to spend a fortune to get great photos in most cases. But how little can you get away with spending? I visit Snowdonia National park with the cheapest camera I could find on Amazon in this video, to see if a camera that has 18 megapixels and costs less than a t-shirt can deliver good results!

I liked the photos from the cheap camera more than the pixel, I guess I'd use my soft gnd to get a bit more of dynamic range, a simple tripod for cellphones and that is all. The Pixel has much computational alteration to my taste.

I agree. The cheap camera has much better colors than the pixel and over all does not look bad. The down side is the cheap camera has a massive crop, it is over exposed, the clouds and sky are washed out, everything looks pulled in with less depth, and if you look at the grass close up the detail is a lot lower. Somehow I still think the cheap camera looks better over all.

What I took from this video: if you're absolutely broke and want to make videos to share your photos on RUclips, the cheapest camera is actually kind of not totally unusable because viewed on a phone screen (like most users do) they look fine. Or at least as bad as anything else after RUclips's compression.

Bit late reply, but I think a second hand camera by a reputable brand would be better than this for teaching kids to develop an eye for this. If you look around, you can find great bargains (I found a Sony HX60 for 40 bucks for example). It even does 1080p50 video recording with image stabilization.

You can find an Olympus Camedia C-5050 used for between $20-60 so, same price range and while it only has 5mp it's images are a million times better than that camera. It even has a reasonably sharp f/1.8 35-105mm eqv. zoom lens on it. You can get a good camera in this price range.

I have that Cam. Its pretty good for inside at conventions. I have tiny hands... so Mouse. It works for not too far apart in okay lighting and your subject is 10 feet or so away and to take pics of small stuff on tables. >its nice to have a point and shoot (or your phone) at events.
Think snapshots and its FINE the size of the image gives you room to Crop out and frame people better.
I also dont mind handing it to folks

I have to say, what this video really proved to me was that it’s not the camera, it’s the photographer and the subject... it may just be the RUclips algorithm, but at a brief glance, those photos were good photos - composition, light, subject etc. Fine details may have been lost, but you caught the moments beautifully...

I thought the pictures looked pretty good on my computer monitor (~16" diagonal and an older screen). Maybe enlarged the pictures are crap but the camera appears to be better than nothing. I liked the test pics better than those by the cell phone. The pictures might be good for Instagram or similar online websites. Point and shoot (not a horrifying experience to one who didn't get into digital until I was +40 years old); don't need film (or the expense of processing that); don't know about battery life or if it's easy to find extra batteries; and almost zero control over how the camera sees (the macros weren't great, but I have trouble with flower pics using a better camera). I don't think it was a waste of money (it could be a tax write off, too!). It could be used as a gift after all.

Lools like my first digital camera I bought was in Singapore on the way to Iraq in 2003. At just under $300, it sported a massive 3mp and no type of zoom function. It was a beast though. Survived being thrashed around in my pack for 6 months in the desert. And captured many memories.

I have tried to shoot this kind of camera in lower pixel settings, smaller picture will come back better results. I always think large pixels is only designed if you need the photo comes large, as displayed on a big big screen, not on a normal computer screen, and usually a smaller picture with much smaller size that only to be seen on a computer screen or smaller prints will do just as fine, have more depth of view, more details, more 3-D, because there are less noise between the dense pixels.

What has prompted me to comment is that I am hugely jealous of the fact you are moving to somewhere near the Ogwen Valley. I have holidayed there for about 20 years, staying at Tai Neweddion which is on the old coach road. I've got a bit of a family connection to the area, as my grandmother was born and lived in Tregarth. As someone who enjoys shooting video on a Digital8 Camcorder as well as with my Sony FX3 and others, this little photo camera is honestly pretty cool. All cameras are kinda cool, photo- / videography is fun and great in general.
People in the past would be crazy about having the ability to take nice looking images in such a compact and affordable format.
Every camera has it's unique charm and character.
Phones can be kind of meh, but it really comes down to putting more thought into the images you take on them - framing, lighting, ISO, colours, f-Stop, etc. can be manually adjusted and it's the job of the photographer to decide.
This reminds me of the experiment where they compared a proper analogue camera with a disposable one and the film came out looking unique and each camera had it's own character.
You could cut a hole into a box, put a lens on it and burn the image on some special paper and if you put thought into it, it can come out great.

I recently bought a collection of old digital cameras from ebay and included was the 21MP Adberg Best camera. Looks identical to this one. It can be easily found on alibaba and the camera is 5 megapixel. It has a fixed aperture with the ISO and shutter speed varying. It often goes to quite a slow shutter speed, 50, 80 etc so you have to hold it very steady to get focused shots. It's a fixed focus lense too with a macro physical switch. Obviously it's a complete waste of time using any resolution above 5MP. It slows the camera down as it interpolates the image and stores it, so you are wasting storage space, time and of course battery life.
The feature set is limited, it's a very basic camera. However it has to be said although there is a tendency for many shots to be ruined because of the slow shutter speed, in good light I've been reasonably impressed with the camera's images.
The thing is though in collection of camera's I got a basic 3MP Kodak camera without optical zoom but with variable aperture and a wider ISO and shutter range and that camera produces more consistent images of slightly better quality. It's a better camera for stills although massively inferior for video.
If you think about we can buy compact cameras now that came out in 2005-2012 for as little as £5 even though they were maybe retailing at £150 or more back then. £30 today taking inflation in reverse is perhaps £15 or so back then, so you are comparing a new £15 camera to a £150 camera. Even allowing for technology moving on that is still a huge gulf in cost.
I should point out on alibaba the camera is clearly described as a children's camera or student's camera. The manufacturer has no illusion about the camera quality but obviously the people selling them on Amazon may have other ideas.

They also do a 21mega pixel one...that’s branded! It looks exactly like this one just says 21 not 18 and has a the brand “Alberg Best”. What’s also interesting is the number of positive reviews. Asking the question are they real or fake one🤔

So your full review was “It’s rubbish”. Actually I did notice, even on RUclips that the skies were totally blown out in all the pictures even though the rest of the picture looked pretty dark. I remember many years ago a friend of mine bought a Lada car (Russian) and he told me how cheap it was. I was tempted until he gave me a ride in it - I immediately thought “It’s rubbish”. I enjoyed the views James, lovely place to live. Keep them coming.

For the price you could pick up any number of branded compact cameras, used. They would have 10-20 real megapixels, a good zoom lens, a PASM dial and turn out decent 12" prints all day long.

An inexpensive but working camera can teach a youngster how to think like a photographer. Not heavy thought yet, but it will encourage her to notice her surroundings. A digital camera won't limit the number of pictures she can take (unlike a film camera, though they do teach one to be frugal). Her only limits will be the battery (so get extras) and the memory card. Oh, and her interest and focus, being young and having the world to explore. What fun!

Funny, it looks like the camera my wife got at Aldi many years ago. She still tries to use it, but the battery is always dead when she reaches for it. Takes terrible photos also, and only 12mp. Luckily, she switched to her smartphone and it does much better. I will stick with my 4 year old Lumix ZS70 (20x opt zoom, 20mp, EVF) for a point a shoot when I am not bringing my G9 and with that I only take photos at 5m pixels (just for the web). I like the option of more megapixels (off the Italian coast and such), but rarely use them.

I'd think it's more fun to get the cheapest Film SLR with matching lens, which is usually a 50/1.7, 50/1.8 or 50/F2 prime or rangefinder with lens for 20-25 bucks. 🙂 IQ simply correlates to the quality of used lens and used film, and the (lab) scan.
