    I agree. They are masters of making the most sophisticated music to sound light and easy.

    This is where it all started for me and Queen way back in late 74 , my first listen to Killer Queen / Flick of the Wrist , actually turned into about a hundred times the first time I heard these songs after I found the 45 rpm in my older brothers room , Queen has been my religion ever since . Rory , you are absolutely spot on about Killer Queen , it's the perfect song with the signature Queen sound that I fell in love with nearly fifty years ago . I also believe " Misfire" is another perfect song , it has the perfect flow !

    You can hear 'I do like to be beside the seaside' being whistled at the start of Brighton Rock. Homage to the last song on the previous album.

    Freddies flick of the wrist
    first diss song which was followed up with death on two legs
    both about their manager with Trident

    This album was quite a departure from their first 2 ...But still a masterpiece. Sheer Heart Attack has a less progressive rock feel, and a faint disquietude that is sinisterly appealing. Queen are now truly getting into their stride, finding their signature sound....In particular the mental velcro mastery of Killer Queen....But, Brighton Rock & Flick of the Wrist are the Killer tracks imo.

    Grandeur … Freddie’s voice . Your Perfect description ! Love this album even tho I prefer Queen Live. First Queen song that did it for me was Killer Queen. I couldn’t figure out how a guy in his 20’s could write such a masterpiece. Brian also has said it’s a perfect song. Freddie was just One Off 🔥

    Just an awesome album. My first Queen song was Killer Queen, and that made me an instant fan.

    Rory, this might be my favorite Queen album! Tenement Funster is awesome! For some reason, it reminds of the Kubrick film “A Clockwork Orange”, I don’t know why. It’s so badass! And then it segue ways into Flick of the Wrist, another masterful song!

    ‘Brighton Rock’ is in the movie ‘Baby Driver’ - well worth a watch just for that! Although it’s a good movie as well…

    Brian was in the hospital with hepatitis and then an abdominal bleed. They added his guitar when he got better. He thought they were going to drop him.

    Great reaction mate. I see this album as a kind of interesting bridge between hard rock Queen and more commercial Queen. I think they were still finding their sound - much like Floyd had a whole string of attempts (post Syd Barret) before Dark Side. Because obviously the next album Queen would make is legendary.

    Thanks, Rory - Brian and Roger were the "Rockers" --but Freddie had no problem keeping up - and John on bass - astounding... back in the day, I had vinyl.. and the intro the Killer Queen is so recognizable.. if I hear it on radio or elsewhere... 5 finger-snaps.. and I'm "She keeps." lol.. back in the day, there was speculation that the only way they could get those sounds was via synthesizers... so Queen actually added a line to their album covers "No synthesizers"... lol

  • @janetschulman7649

    Roger has a very distinctive voice. Listen to some of his solo stuff. Freddie doesn’t sing on this at all. John plays the acoustic at the beginning and of course the bass. Brian has the lead. Talking about tenement funster

  • @sergeinester6261
    @sergeinester6261 2 года назад +1

    Their song writing also started to get into their trademark 3 verse story perspective as used on everything from we will rock you to its late to hammer to fall and days of our lives. Usually it would be sung from different perspectives in a relationship or different perspectives of time or both

  • @bluebell3720
    @bluebell3720 2 года назад +2

    John played acustic on funster as Brian wasn't well
    they got the backing done on all their songs and Brian added guitar and harmonies later which is how they normally did it anyway
    then his 4 tracks when he was better

  • @bluebell3720

    so far tracks written and sang by Roger
    modern time rock and roll
    looser in the end
    and funster

    We all read different things. Some true, some not. But read that a lot of this album was recorded while Brian had Hepatitis, so many of these tracks were recorded, then the guitar laid over the top. Is it true? I don't know, I only read it in one place.

    • @bluebell3720
      @bluebell3720 2 года назад +2

      Brian said himself they just got on with it he added guitar afterwards.
      But thats how they usually did it anyway.
      Brian wrote his solo then just followed Freddies map for the rest of the guitar bits.
      He did his tracks when he was better

    Great insight for such few listens. Yes, they were all songwriters (first band to be inducted into the songwriters hall of fame), so they each had a style. They had a rule, anyone that brings a song to the table gets to keep and throw out stuff/ideas from the rest of the band, the writer has the last call. ie John Deacon wanted the synth keyboard sound on 'Your my Best Friend'. Freddie refused to play it saying, I'm not playing that thing, lol, and that he'll do it on the piano. John wanted the softer sound, got his way and did it himself.
    Ya it's crazy how you say it's one of my fav tunes and then never relistened, but I get it, What your generation is accessible to now is mind blowing to my old ass. Back in the day this was released I'd have it on repeat for months (along with other favs in the LP collection) Pretty soon you got to know the voices of Mercury/May/Taylor, and as you pointed out what they were singing about.
