I will GG you when it's apparent that I am going to lose, but I don't feel like snap conceding. Snap kept a 4 lander and hit 4 straight off the top. GG. I'm top decking already
Rebranding his fanclub for the Mesa Falcons is the best thing CGB ever did. Being called a Mesa Falcon warms my heart much more than a cool kid ever did.
Cards been out for years but that control game is the only time ive ever even noticed that mech warfare increases artifacts damage not just red sources haha
Hey CGB! You’re one of the people who’ve gotten me into Standard and I just wanted to say thanks! I’ve been experimenting with this interesting little Azban control-ish/midrange deck with Insidious Roots and I’ve been having a blast!
Case of the Gateway Express is hilarious with Taii Wakeen. If the damage dealt equals the target's toughness (easy with Taii's ability), then it lets you draw a card for each of your creatures.
I had an opponent last night gg me on turn 6 when they got a big board not knowing I just avariced an Overwhelming Forces. Cleared their board and won the game; felt amazing.
I gotta say CGB for once you were able to play an aggro deck and have fun with it. Most of the time you were just kind of pushing through it for contents and I’m genuinely happy that you were able to find some middle ground. I think this might be one of my go to decks from now on. It seems to be really fun and thank you for sharing it with us.
Im just getting into Magic, but its crazy how Elder Scrolls Legends took so much "inspiration" from Magic TG. iykyk ESL was dope! so im straight up blown away by MTG arena this game is crazy good. Im currently back and forth between MTG arena and Yugioh md lol
Great deck! I having been playing a similar Boros Humans with Heartflame Dualist and Tail Wakeen and having good success. Extraction Specialist is an all star with their passive abilities.
Funniest shit is mono red running into my Obliterator with creatures and burn and pump spells, losing their whole board including the lands. Pikachu surprise face.
I LOVE this deck and have been looking to make Taii Wakeem work So my thought was (and hear me out)... Could you fit in High Noon and have it make sense?
I think you would have to rework the deck quite a bit. I would either put it in the sideboard or add board wipes and a walker or two one or both chandras probably maybe a wandering emperor
I think playing high noon and treating it as a 5 mana burn spell would be alright, but the matchup it helps in (Boros Convoke and blue white control) are both already great matchups. It would be win more and hurt against other decks like golgari midrange. For best of one, try out one or two if you want to use it but be aware that it will get got by get lost or other enchantment hate more often then a pure burn spell. It would be best as a 2-3 of in the sideboard for best of 3. At least, that’s my opinion without testing. Go for it though and tell us what you found out! 😊
Mr. CGB, may I request a vid on an Izzet deck? Any style. I've got one I cooked up that's sort of midrange control-ish, but I suffer from new player-itis because I just started two months ago and don't know enough about what's out there, so I think it could easily be improved.
It's hard to make mid-range work with all the board wipes. Most blue red decks go really fast with slickshot show off to try to kill the opponent before they can board wipe on turn five
@@GoldenSkeeter Fair. I haven't been super interested in the slickshot monstrous rage type of decks, though, so I was curious if there was anything I was overlooking. Basically just running a lot of negate/essence scatter/burn spells + haughty djinn and tolarian terror as a wincon, with some draw for vague consistency. It hasn't felt great, though, and looking through a bunch of cards is difficult.
@amyrlinn I mostly like to build with what I crack. I'm a wildcard hoarder. Draft tokens, too. I'll use them someday. There's a lot that you can do with Izzet right now. There's Arcane Bombardment nonsense, I think Niv is still legal, planeswalkers, dragons, there's some funky treasure options, copy big x burn, big ping tempo, artifacts (Jeskai artifacts sounds interesting)... There's probably more. Anything strike your fancy?
@@matthewpatton9221 I just don't know enough of the cards! I started playing on the exact day Thunder Junction came out, so I can name big pieces in decks, but the small filler stuff that makes the decks flow is the knowledge I'm missing.
I was trying to make Boros Burn work a few months ago, but it never really worked, so I was excited to see the CGB had made a competitive Boros Burn deck. That was until I tried it myself. After 10 games I've only won one. It's too slow and runs out of gas, unless you pop off with virtue of courage, which is how I won the one game I won. Most games are just one for one removal with no value engine, which inevitably leads to a loss. Is there any trick to winning with this deck that I am missing?
Since the specifics of burn are always kinda important and a lot of staples are rotating out, I wonder if it's worth talking about what replaces them. Sadly this deck does get slightly worse - End the Festivities has its replacement in Tectonic Hazard, which doesnt hit planeswalkers, and Play with Fire just slips back to Shock. And of course nothing really subs in for Sacred Fire beyond the already 4-of Lightning Helix.
can anyone explain why he played second warfare at 27:30? that seemed bad. my reasoning is 1. it brings you below 6 mana so you can't show lethal in gy and also 0 cards in hand gives the opponent so much more confidence.
I would love to try all these decks out but legendary wildcards are insane low. every set you need like 20 only for lands. magic is just not great for free to players.
Yea its a big reason I stopped playing too. Took ages to get my Golgari deck how I wanted it then a new set comes along and suddenly need way more rares and mythic etc. I get it's the game and economy and that's fine, but its not a wheel I wanna be on anymore
This deck is a funny one with a very different play style. Its weakness is the manabase. Most of the cards have double-colored mana symbols. I can see the approach with Abraded Bluffs, but nevertheless you'll have many mulligans.
15:15 You don't have to discard to the Case of the Crimson Pulse in the first chapter to draw two cards. You could have played the land or the case the turn before.
lt still needs to do combat damage to apply the poison counter, same thing goes for creatures with infect even if they don't actually apply that damage in the form of life points
Ooh, this is like the second coming of Satanic Sligh. I'm enjoying it a lot, but I think the second basic plains needs to go for another red source. I keep getting bottlenecked on red and it's a huge pain.
Showoff is such an opportunity cost card that I'm not surprised it's not present here. Plotting it on 2 is a do-nothing that turn hoping for an explosive turn down the line except your gameplan, at that point, is completely face-up. On 2 it's a 1/2 with Haste and flying. That's a stat line you love on 1 but hate on 2 and late in the game you don't have the spells to make Showoff explode which makes it worse than basically any other 2-drop you can play. I'm really not a believer in Showoff outside of the nut draw and that's not a place I want to be playing a card hoping for.
Mono red burn is better than Red Deck Wins ALL the way. It requires more thought out plays (not *much* of those, mind, but more than "vomit hand on board and hope it works").
Why do you let them untap all their stuff before casting on their upkeep before they draw? why not cast on your end step when they only have 5 mana available? am I missing something? it seems like your letting them cast their counters if they have them instead of taking advantage of them being tapped out...
At ~30m? Opponent has 13 lands. What kind of hands does CGB win against with your play that they don’t win against if they rip it before the opponent untaps? Hands with answers worth 6+ mana. So let’s suppose the opponent has this kind of hand. The opponent ends their turn with at most 7 mana + 1 memory deluge +1 card in hand in hand, or 8 mana and 1 memory deluge in hand. CGB still has 4 mana open after casting his spells and can make a mirex token, which has to be killed. So really, if CGB draws any threat (and his deck has many left), after the mirex is killed the opponent has to answer it with either 2 mana and 2 cards in hand, or 3 mana and 1 card in hand. By making this play CGB all but guarantees that his opponent will end the next turn with almost no cards and almost no mana, and won’t ever end up in a situation where they can draw more cards with their excess mana. They get slowly ground to dust as they’re forced to spend resources on dealing with the mirex and never being allowed any time to rebuild a hand. Even if CGB gets countered or draws dead, next turn it’s 2 mirexes to deal with, and the opponent’s hand is *very* small… Now, maybe if you know the opponent’s list and can guarantee they have no answers for 5 mana, you should go for the kill as it guarantees the win, but if you don’t 100% know their cards and think they might have a 5 mana answer to your 2 burn spells, then making sure they spend this 5 mana on their turn and are shields down on the next turn is the better outcome imo. No risks of something tragic happening, fewer risk of them being able to flash an emperor with extra mana, etc.
I'm gonna say it, shuffler rigged, same thing happened to me first 2 games, 11 and 12 lands in top 20. 3rd game though, perfect turn 4 win against boros convoke.
the azorius game was really impressive, immaculate gameplay
it definitely was , but the opponent was pretty bad to be fair.

Monogreen control when?
Looool
Whanna master of control? Return GWT (Guillaume Wafo-Tapa, for those who don't know and is a newbie in a world of magic)

Yeah but in a deck where you run her you probably won't also have alot of creatures on board so the case feels kind of wasted.
Love the Mesa Falcon screech 😅
