Since I started making these videos in 2017, I have been lucky enough to receive the support of some manufacturers with materials to use in my videos. Since May 2018, Chestnut Products have provided me with stains, an iridescent paints sample set, lacquers and waxes. I'd like to thank them for their kind and generous support. Martin Saban-Smith has provided me with a sample set of Intrinisic Colours.
All other products and tools, unless where indicated, have been bought from suppliers at retail prices. Products mentioned in my videos are for information purposes so that viewers know what I have used.
Oh my word! I can't stop watching your videos! These colourful bowls are just gorgeous!
Thank you! Glad you are enjoying them. It's great to get such positive comments like this!!
I absolutely like the texturing. Well done.
Thank you, Leroy - glad you like it! Cheers!
When you have a good one like this and say you want to do more, I practically scream at the screen "Stop!". Looks great. I have successfully used the stop for the router like you were talking about doing.
Thank you, Bill - glad you like it. Am interested to see what you think about tomorrow's video!
I love this one Stewart, really love it.
Take care Stewart.
Cheers, Huw
Glad you enjoyed it, Huw. Thank you!!
Another beauty, Stewart.
Thank you, Doug!!!
I like this one, Stewart. It has the illusion of color shifting depending on your viewing angle.
Bill
Cheers, Bill - glad you like it!
Looking good from here Stewart 👍👍
Thanks, Barry! I really like this one in parts....am I my own worst critic?
Great video Stewart. "iteration" - Love it!!
Glad you enjoyed it, Bob!!
New to your channel as I was searching for texturing pieces! Lots of content to dig thru!
Thanks, Alan - hope you enjoy looking through my other videos. Cheers!
That looks really cool, Stewart!
Thanks, Billy - I'm having fun with this jig!
Still a lovely piece mate. Inspiring
Take care Stewart
Cheers
Harold
Thank you, Harold - fun to do! Glad you like it. Cheers!
Really nice Stuart...teach on
Cheers, Kev - there's an important lesson in tomorrow's video - but the 'happy accident' led to something I think I might like a little more than this one....
Wow! Well done sir, absolutely stunning. I've watched a few of your videos tonight and you have inspired me to get back out to my shed and fire up my small lathe. Thank you 👍
Thank you, Steve - I'm delighted you enjoyed my videos and more delighted it's got you inspired to get in your shed. Have fun! Cheers!!
Gorgeous!
Thank you! 😊
Despite your reservations I really like both the geometric regularity and the quiet understatement of the colours. Very nice piece! You might need a lie down and a cuppa to recover from this exercise in restraint 😉
Sure you’ll find many more effects from the fluting / indexer jig as you experiment - look forward to the next variation. 👀
Thank you! A lie down definitely followed this....but a week of being ill (again!).....a cuppa sounds nice though! The next variation coming out tomorrow goes a little awry.....
Great piece
Thank you, David! Cheers!
I really like it. 🤩
Thank you, Ann! 😊
Hi Stewart, looks great, loved the colour even if they were very muted, you look as if you are becoming very restrained in your old age. They look great with the pattern. Take care Steve
Cheers, Steve! Glad you like this one....I did have to fight putting different, more in your face colours on this! Glad I restrained myself!
You're onto something, Stewart. I like that texturing and colour treatment. Perhaps different combinations, as you suggested. But I think it looks great. I think I'd prefer a smooth edge over scalloped, if I must offer a critique. Well done.
Thanks, Jay - this was fun to do but still has a few wrinkles to work out!
It is a very mesmerizing piece. Nice work as always Stewart and thank you for sharing your process.
Cheers, John - it's a great jig to play around with and have fun!
Great job thanks for sharing. I especially like the scallops and iridescent paints.
Thanks for watching, Jude. Glad you like it!
Love your videos. You give me confidence and inspiration to try new and non conventional techniques. Thank you.
Cheers, Tom - glad they are useful and that you enjoy them. It's all about having a go - and fun!
This was a great technique. I really like the more muted colors. My wife is wanting that so bad.
Cheers, Jeff - what great taste your wife has!!! Give her my thanks!
Wonderful video! I've experimented with flutes, but my laziness for sanding got the best of me, and I started gluing in scraps of wood, then turning flush again. I really like the diamond pattern and your addition of colors.
Cheers, Pete! There's so much fun to be had with playing with these cuts and colouring. Hope to be posting new videos soon!
I love the colors and to me it looks more Art Deco. But then I love anything you throw ( creatively place ) color on. 🙂
Thank you, Kathy - Art Deco I'll take for sure....very classy! Wait till tomorrow's video for a very different outcome and style!
Absolutely gorgeous! Your color choice for this being a diamond cut is spot on! Love it as always! 🥰🤗👏🤙
Thank you so much, Angie!!
very good thanks
Thanks Denise!
I like this one a lot. The blending of the colors that you got are lovely.
Thank you, Doug - delighted you like this one so much!
Stewart, I absolutely love this one! It is so stunning! Nice job! 💜
Thank you, Tracey! So pleased you like this one....I feel it's almost 'grown up'!
Hi Stewart, I have to say I prefer this to the first one.
I was looking forward to seeing you in person in High Wycombe today, I even got up early and washed my hair. Instead, I have spent time reading Edward Rutherfurd's book Sarum, plus thinking about woodturning and even collecting 10 Kg. of fresh English Walnuts from my tree.
Tomorrow I may just try out my Paul Howard Fluting Jig with a variation of your platter by combining both of the approaches you took. Cheers and get better soon.
Cheers, Roger - I was sorry to have to cancel High Wycombe today....been up and about a bit today....have to be better by the end of the week as I'm due to be in Ireland for the seminar....Have fun with your jig (and a little jealous of your walnut haul!)
I like the diamond effect. Using the router on both sides of the blank is a good idea, and keeps things symmetrical. I'm not crazy about the "V" router bit. It makes painting easier, but since when do I care about making your life easier? A small box core bit or even an inlay bit would be interesting. Getting color on the sides of the grooves would need care.
I did like the colors on this one. I didn't think they were THAT subdued. A little subtlety now and then isn't a bad thing. I'll look forward to the wild stuff next week.
Cheers, Bill! The cutter on this one was the same cutter as the previous video, but the sanding flattened out the curved faces, which I'm not sure I like as much....here's the cutter used: www.wealdentool.com/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Point_Round_218.html
Tomorrow's video does use a V cutter but things didn't run according to script!
Personally I love the colours, beautiful piece.
I hear you're not well so I wish you a speedy recovery 🙂
Thank you, Miss Tee. I was pleased with this one. Nearly fully recovered, thank you!
Hi Stewart long time watcher first time to comment, ever thought to paint it first then cut the pattern.i do like the effect it gives.
Thanks for commenting, Michael - and apologies for delayed reply.....been unwell...grrr.....but well on the mend now. I've coloured wood and then cut texture with other tools, but haven't tried that yet with the router jig....it's on the list of things to do!
Like it very much. Kind of a pinwheel effect when you were turning slowly.
Thank you, Tony - glad you like it!
Классно снято - приятно смотреть.
Thank you!
Stewart... Beautiful as always!! I love the way you go with an idea and it just emerges. I have a question about the grooving jig you used on this one. What specific bit did you use and how did you control the depth of cut? I heard you mention a bushing, but not sure about the exact setup. Any chance of you shooting a couple of detail pics of the business end of you router setup? Thanks, Vern Owens
Thank you, Vern - glad you like it. Here's a link to the cutter I used: www.wealdentool.com/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Point_Round_218.html
I used the T130-8 Point Round
...I'll do some pics of the jig at the weekend...
there is somthing about colors you either love or hate them i realy like this one
Cheers, Ian - delighted you like this one!
i like it. a slight curve to the face could look nice. you should use a stop on the base to give more options like cutting a straight line across a curved face would give a difering depth of cut or a curved fence would do the same. what router bit are you using looks like a very basic v groove,. im surrprised at the roughness. a really good cutter should leave it super smooth.
i would like to see you try a random patern with this and not every hole on the indexing plate just a random one. could give a cool effect
random....hmmm.......wait till next weekend's video, then, Alan! Definitely lots more experimenting to do!
Was that a V shaped cutter you used, and have you tried those nylon sanding brushes for sanding?
Cheers! On this one, I used a reeding cutter like this: www.wealdentool.com/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Point_Round_218.html
I use the nylon brushes a lot as well.
@@stewartfurini Thanks Stewart, love the projects keep them coming
I really like the effect. How do you control the depth of the router? With the jig or by hand?
Cheers, Gary - on this one, the depth was controlled by a bushing around the cutter tip.....tomorrow's video uses a stop on the base plate with a different cutter....
Good, good, keeper! But no signature jump since you did two last time?
Haha....like to keep you guessing......I've put one in for tomorrow's video specially for you....
@@stewartfurini Will be watching!
@@valeriehenschel1590 I'll be interested in your take on the final result!
@@stewartfurini Always willing.
Yep you still need to wash your hair, as do i and as for becoming sophisticated I’m sure it’s just a phase. Yes i did get some of those paints and I’ve been having some success with a white background then running some ink into the groves and a really obtuse angle with the air brush while masking. That’s about as clear as mud.
haha....the temptation to cut it super short is always there......I'll have to have a go with it over white...haven't tried it yet....Cheers!
turned out great but aye get some red and yelly oan it 😃
Cheers, Val.....soon!!
The gold detracts. Please don't unfriend me!
Haha! Never!!! I think there was at least one section I thought I'd got too much gold on, for sure....
Whew
