I'm so happy that Bioderma sponsores you, you totally deserve it and it's such a great brand :D I don't really like micellar water, as you said using it with pads is like a light physical exfoliation which would irritate me, but you listed many advantages of it which I didn't think about before :) like using it where the tap water is not suitable for you and after microblading, I might think about it for situstions like this. thanks for the quality content :)
I heavily used it while I lived in an area with incredibly hard water, it made such a huge difference for my skin it was ridiculous. It really is fantastic when you can't count on the local water without extensive filtering.
you are one of my favourite voices in skincare! I just love your explanations, your graphics and illustrations, and the speed at which you speak. Thank you!
Thank you for this. I’ve been loving micellar water and my skin gets constant compliments (and I live in a very hard water area) but I just watched a video by a dermatologist who acted like micellar waters were only a makeup remover and had to be washed off! So thank you very much for reassuring me!
Love my pink top Sensibio Bioderma Micellar water! The Garnier supposed dupe is really drying and irritating. Not changing from the Bioderma ever again. I use it as my step 2 in my cleanse after the Bioderma Pink Sensibio gel cleanser and a good rinse with water. Kind of like a toner. When I do this my eyelids don’t itch from any leftover eye makeup. It’s the best. The cotton pads that I love and are the softest are the Shiseido ones. I’m 63 with allergy prone sensitive dry eczema prone skin. Also when I am almost done cleaning my makeup brushes I squirt a little Micellar water on my brushes and rub a bit then squeeze & rinse. It’s amazing how much more makeup comes out even though I got it “clean” using soaps or my cleansing gel.
I got cystic acne after starting using micellar water Sensibio, the pink one. I found an article with someone with the same problem and recommended washing the face after using it. I still wash my face every time after and never had problems again. But this way some of the advantages you mentioned are gone.
My skin doesn't agree with oil cleansers so I use the Sensibio micellar water as the first cleanse in a double cleanse method. For the second cleanse, I use a very gentle cleansing milk (my current favourite is Avene's Extermely Gentle Cleansing Lotion) to make sure I washed any residue and excess sunscreen/makeup off. Ideally you should rinse the micellar water off especially if you're sensitive, acne-prone. You can leave it on from time to time if you're on a plane, travel, late night party etc. but not in a long run.
1 - can one use microfiber cloth instead of the cotton? 2 - do you prefer micellar waters over something like cetaphil gentle skin cleanser? 3 - thank you so much for all this great science based information. love your book too!
I remember reading something about Bioderma micellar water being designed for people with skin so sensitive that they can't even use tap water on their face.
That's what the Bioderma team told me too when I went to their factory! In Europe there's a lot of hard water, so the minerals in it can be too irritating for some people.
Thank you!!! I have hard water where I live and micellar water has helped so much! I read that you didn’t need to rinse it off, which is why I started using it. But all the skincare groups I’m in go beserk at that. Thank you for your explanation! That helps so much!
Are cleansing waters the same thing as micellar waters? I see them often in Asian brands, some examples: Neogen Real Flower Cleansing Water, Tony Moly Chok Chok Green Tea No-Wash Cleansing Water, Blithe Anti-Polluaging Cleansing Water.
I’ve been seeing this stuff everywhere but I never thought to look into it. I thought it was just another type of toner, which I rarely use. Maybe I’ll give this a try. Thanks for sharing!
i went for holidays but there was hardwater. and i get worst breakouts due to hardwater. And thank god this time i bought miscellar water and a spray bottle with minetal water in it. and i literally saved my skin. first i wiped my face gently with miscellar water and then spray water on my face and wiped again . and it really help me
This was an awesome video! I love the Bioderma miceller water for sensitive skin. The Simple one for sensitive skin is also good. I always use a cotton pad but didn’t know the science behind it that you need to use a cotton pad. It’s also good to know you can leave them on. Thanks! 😊
Loving your content! I make sure I use a very gentle cotton pad but I also don't mind a gentle exfoliating effect of micellar water, so I don't have to use a strong AHA or physical exfoliator which I'm too sensitive to.
Love your videos! Have been watching for years now ❤ I do have a question: You mention you need cotton pads, but if those are too rough for ones skin, would microfiber pads work as well? 😲
thank you for such informative video!!! Is it possible for you to talk about PEG in cosmetic's ingredients? Some people say that they are as bad as parabens, but there are so many types that I don't know if there are some good ones and some bad ones, or better to avoid all of them. Thank you.
Yes. Can you help us with understanding parabens and their effects on humans. There's just a lot of contrasting information and claims that makes it confusing to consumers.
I really wanted to try Bioderma but the added fragrance is really unappealing to my super sensitive allergy prone skin :( I hope they eventually make a version that is fragrance free, then I will certainly be all over it :D
As the others said, pink one Sensibio- no scent- I have allergic eczema prone skin and my eyes are super sensitive and I have been using this for years. I use it with the Shiseido cotton pads and haven’t found anything softer than those. Try a small travel size- you may be pleasantly surprised
I've tried both garnier and Bioderma but both burn my face really bad. The inky list pay pay cleansing balm broke me out though so I don't know what to use to remove makeup and sunscreen
I used the one in the pink bottle but it irritated my skin. I noticed immediately after use that my skin felt tight and eventually it became dry and dull.
Could you list a few recommendable micellar waters? 😊 I've used Garnier's for a while and I'm currently trying Cerave's. I find the latter more hydrating already.
Thank you for the informative video! Do we use micellar water before we wash our faces or after? I have been using mine after I wash my face and then I apply my daily creams
Hey Michelle, I've been using Garnier micellar morning and night without a cotton pad for a while. I poured it on my hand and then rub it onto my face, making sure that I see it emulsifying (turning white) then rinsing it off with water. Do you this method is able to cleanse the face properly? Or would you recommend to use cotton pad? (I don't use makeup)
Thx for the video :) you mentioned that we need to clean the face with micellar water before showering? What’s is the reason for that, can it be done after the shower?
Bioderma for sensitive skin gave me rosacea... I discovered the garnier micellar water for oily and sensitive skin. Waou! also the Yves Rocher for sensitive skin, that is a good sebum remover too.
Can you name some ingredients in a micellar water that indicate that they should be washed off and not left on the skin...? I’ll try to check my products’ ingredient lists. Thanks!
Hi Michelle! I live in an area that has hard water so I was wondering how I can use micellar water as an alternative to cleanse my skin? Is using the micellar water alone on a cotton pad every morning and evening enough to cleanse my skin?
Hey love the vid! Could I use micellar water after work to take off sunscreen without doing a full cleanse? I sometimes go out after work when it's dark so I wanna take my spf off as soon as I can as my skin is very sensitive but I also don't want to do a full cleanse three times in one day. Do you get me?
I'm currently on accutane. So my skin condition os not so good and so so sensitive. Which one of bioderma would be good for me? And can you please suggest me a good sunscreen? I use bioderma photoderm spf50+ but these days it irritates me around the eye area. Not close, around eyebrows area.
Thank you! I've been using the Australian gold sunscreen every day (love it). Struggling to get it off at nights. I use a great micellar water with a disposable facial wipe, both of which my skin tolerates. But I need to do a second cleanse too, I'm just not sure if I should use an oil cleanser first to try to remove the sunscreen and second the micellar water or vice versa. Sometimes I feel that I'm over exfoliating with it, leaving irritation. Any suggestions?
Pajama Mama I use the same spf plus makeup everyday and I have very sensitive allergic eczema skin so here’s what I do: Step 1: cleanse with the Sensibio pink gel cleanser- a pump of that, gentle fingers massage into wet face for a minute or so. Rinse well with lukewarm running tap water. I get my face right under the tap a rinse well with my fingers and PAT DONT RUB with a clean soft facecloth just to take excess water off. Step 2: I take a Shiseido cotton pad (softest one I’ve found) and put the Bioderma Sensibio Micellar water on it and hold on lids, gently wiping my lashline for the last bits of mascara etc. I carry on over the rest of my face gently wiping any last traces. Then I rinse again and pat dry but since this video I won’t bother with the second rinse. It gets EVERYTHING off. Till I did it this way I would wake up at times with itchy eyelids from remnants. I can’t recommend both those Bioderma Sensibio products enough along with the Shiseido cotton pads. I quickly follow with my moisturizer to lock in the water into my skin and wake up comfortable even around my eyes. For an alternative first step I use Clinique cleansing balm- the purple jar and same routine. I like that for travel because the little jars of that are easier to travel with as a mini and a solid balm that won’t leak. So if you prefer an oil cleanse try the Clinique cleansing balm instead of the Sensibio gel cleanser.
Pajama Mama personally, I take off my makeup with Bioderma, use an oil cleanser and then a milky cleanser. If I don’t wear makeup then I just do the 2 steps without Bioderma. Just my 2 cents 🌺
Hi I'll start using the Garnier micellar and follow it with a gentle cleanser like cetaphil, do u think it's fine to do it everynight? I'm going to skip morning washes beczs I really have dry skin and just double cleanse at night I'm also curious If I can use it without cotton? is it still going to work heard that cotton acts as physical exfoliator
Such an informative video as always and huge congrats on the sponsorship! I’ve been using micellar water and had no clue cotton pads were lightly exfoliating, so now I’m even more keen to try oil cleansing. Would you know of any Aussie products that are the equivalent of Albolene, or whether Aussie Hydraderm Sorbolene cream could be a good first cleanser? Ingredients (re Albolene) = mineral oil, petrolatum, paraffin, ceresin, beta carotene Ingredients (re Hydraderm = Water, glycerol, liquid paraffin, soft white paraffin, cetostearyl alcohol, propylene glycol, cetomacrogol 1000, chlorocresol.
I have sensitive AND very oily skin. I am prone to acne. For the past 5yrs I've been using the magic concoction of benzoyl peroxide and adapalene gel. It's the only thing that keeps me from being a pizza face. I love it! It dries out my skin tho and I do still get a couple pimples here and there but nothing like before. I use Cerave cream for my moisturizer before I put on my magic lotions. I am wanting to make the switch from Neutrogena makeup remover wipes to micellar water and reusable cotton pads. Should I try the sensitive or acne prone micellar water?
So happy you got sponsored by Bioderma ! I didn't think it could be use as a cleanser. I was thinking of double cleansing (using an oil cleanser and then after use using a foaming cleanser). Do you think it' s worth it ?
@@LabMuffinBeautyScience Ha ok ! Before watching your video I was considering purchusing The ordinary Squalane cleanser as a first step. I've got the Garnier with the blue cap. I don't have any issue wen I use to remove makeup. From what understand his ph is to high.
Sensibio micellar water has saved me. I have rosacea and during the winter it can get so bad that even washing my face with just water provokes an intense flush and burning. With the Sensibio I am able to cleanse my face without irritation. I always soak one side of the cotton pad with the micellar water, go over my face, then put a few drops of lukewarm water on the flipside and go over the face again to not leave too much micellar water on my skin (I suppose it's not necessary but I'm kinda paranoid).
Thanks for this video, it was very informative, I learned so much from your instagram posts so it's great you're on YT too. I love that you always say your unbiased opinion and just present facts (in a way normal consumer can understand :)) I have one more question about the micellar water. Can I use it to cleanse my face in am? My skin is dry and prone to dehydration so I don't want to use normal water-based cleanser twice a day . I thought this could be more gentle alternative.
Thank you! Have you tried just rinsing with water in the morning? It's what I do, and I've been surprised to hear a lot of dermatologists I've talked to say the same thing!
@@LabMuffinBeautyScience Thank you so much for answering. ❤️ I currently use just water (in am), but I wasn't sure if it's enough. I'll definitely try doing this for longer period of time and see what effect it has on my skin. :)
So if we use Micellar water at night after all the sunscreen reapplies during the day (I don’t use any makeup), there’s no need to double cleanse with a water cleanser? We can just put our nighttime skincare over our skin right after using Micellar water?
I have dry, peeling skin and I'm trying to get it fixed. I use a natural cleanser, gentle aha toner with cotton pad, DE (Drunk Elephant) B-Hydra serum, DE Protini polypeptide cream, then squalane + vitamin c rose oil. DE just came out with E-Rase milki micellar water and I'm wondering if I can use it with a makeup eraser cloth to replace my cleanser and aha toner? I know there are no exfoliants in it but I think the cloth is good enough and maybe that's what was irritating my skin?? Please help!!
Cool. I‘ve never used the stuff, since we have great tab water here and ye olde oil cleanse works very well for me...but it’s good to know, what to look for in case I ever need it for traveling. 👍
The micellar water she's testing at 7:04 looks a lot like the Garneir micellar water and has a pH of 7.5 (that's too high and potentially drying). ;) I definitely felt dry when I tried it, and I am pretty oily.
Hi Michelle! I've seen people mixing micellar water with water in a foam-maker and use it like a normal cleanser and then rinse it off. I wonder if this works?
Awesome video! I hope there are more Bioderma vids in the pipeline, ;-). Do you know if it's possible to use it like a toner? For instance, I've been using the sebium bio after my workouts to cleanse/tone my sweaty face, but I've been dripping it into my hands and then spreading it around my face. I wasn't sure it would be less effective since the non-polar heads wouldn't be arranged in a micelle as with a cotton pad?
@@LabMuffinBeautyScience Oh no! My worst fear! Haha, thank you so much for answering, :-). I've been avoiding the cotton pads because I hate to waste product like that, but after seeing your other video on how micellar water actually works, I realized it might not be simply a matter of getting it onto my face. Well, now I know!
@@xcforlife77 You could use a cotton flannel instead, or look into reusable cotton pads - I've started using some reusable pads that I made from cotton flannel I bought at the fabric store! Super cheap and goes into the laundry with everything else :)
@@LabMuffinBeautyScience +1 for reusable cotton pads. I made some out of flannel scraps almost ten years ago and they are still going strong. Washing tips: 1.Put them in a mesh lingerie bag to keep them from disappearing in the washing machine. 2. Periodically "strip" them with an oxygen cleaner to get the build up out of them. I saturate them with the Oxyclean stain spray, but a long soak in a tub with hot water and a scoop of the powdered Oxyclean works well, too.
What would be the consequences of using Micellar Water with just hands? I feel like the cotton pad absorbs so much and I waste a lot more than if I put some in my hands and spread it around. - thanks for your A+ content as always! 😊
I don’t know if I missed it, but is micelles water used as the oil based cleanser or water based cleanser?? Cause I know it would seem to be water based right off the bat, but it does the job of an oil based one. So since I bought Micellar water,, should I consider it as water and buy an oil based cleanser or consider it as oil and buy a water based cleanser??
thank you! but i have a question, I usually do double cleansing at night but i worry about removing makeup with just an oil cleanser as its get way too messy. should I need to use micellar water or i'm good?
micellar water and oil cleansers do the same job. You don't need to use both it's just preference. I realised oil cleansers don't work for my skin, it's messy and my skin gets easily irritated if I massage with oil for too long. So I just use a micellar water before I go on with a gentle cleansing milk/gel.
Bioderma stings my face 😢.But the interesting part is that it stings when I add moisturizer or cream after . ANY moisturizer or cream applied after Bioderma ,it stings for a minute 🤔 . One night I had the bad idea to put tretinoin after micellar water , I had to call the fire department 😂
It's a good idea to rinse it off, but you won't destroy your skin if you leave it on. The surfactant is *relatively* gentle, but still strong enough to remove makeup. You can just use a splash of water, though.
Putting non-rinse on the bottle makes it seem easier and quicker. Definitely rinse it off with water though bc surfactants will clog your pores over time
It depends on the micellar water - if it's formulated carefully (good pH, very gentle surfactants that can be leave-on) it won't need to be rinsed off, but unfortunately many on the market haven't been. There's also the fact that different skin has different sensitivities!

I use Cerave cream for my moisturizer before I put on my magic lotions. I am wanting to make the switch from Neutrogena makeup remover wipes to micellar water and reusable cotton pads. Should I try the sensitive or acne prone micellar water?
I'd recommend trying the sensitive or hydrating first :)
Always great well explained content. Thank you for taking the time doing this. *** Have you thought of making vids about capillar care, hair care?
So happy you got sponsored by Bioderma ! I didn't think it could be use as a cleanser. I was thinking of double cleansing (using an oil cleanser and then after use using a foaming cleanser). Do you think it' s worth it ?
I personally double cleanse in my routine - if you're thinking of doing that with a micellar water, I'd use the micellar water as the second step.
I recognise that pink lid!! It’s the one I use!! I didn’t know it was too acidic. I’ll switch to Bioderma
My skin is red around my nose, oily and i have acne since 10 years! What is the best micellar water for me?
Please help!!
okay so the pink bioderma will throw off your ph? And does it remove sunscreen and dirt and oil too?
Thank you for the great explanation and adding that people can use reusable cotton pads
Which water is for combination skin ? Cause I’m afraid that the water for oil skin types are too harsch for my dry areas ..
Can you use just cleasing water in the morning and rinse water afterwards? Thanks
What about micellar foaming cleanser? There are better then regular? 🤔
Hey , can micellar water remove physical sunscreen ? 🌼🌼🌼
Which miceller water had the ph of 5.5?
Bioderma 👌🏻
Yep, it's the Bioderma Sensibio H2O (although the other two are also pH 5.5, I just didn't put the footage into the video 😉)
Very interesting and helpful. I really had no knowledge of what mic
Can i use micellar water to remove sunscreen?does it even work?
Plz ans
Cool. I‘ve never used the stuff, since we have great tab water here and ye olde oil cleanse works very well for me...but it’s good to know, what to look for in case I ever need it for traveling. 👍
So interesting. I love the pink Bioderma for removing the bits of "panda eyes" mascara that always seems to hang around after I've washed 🐼
What do you think of Garnier Micellar water?
The micellar water she's testing at 7:04 looks a lot like the Garneir micellar water and has a pH of 7.5 (that's too high and potentially drying). ;) I definitely felt dry when I tried it, and I am pretty oily.
Turquoise Greene my skin hated it
I’m of a fan for its pink cap. I always rinse off after using it though. Wouldn’t recommend leaving it.
The pH is higher than I'd want - if you're after something at that price point I'd recommend the Simple one :)
I didn't think it was very effective. I feel like I paid for $8 bottled water.
Would you say that the blue micellar water is the most hydrating of the three?
Yep!
I don't think it works as well without a cotton pad - tissue should work as well, but it can be a bit rough.
Washing tips:
1.Put them in a mesh lingerie bag to keep them from disappearing in the washing machine.
2. Periodically "strip" them with an oxygen cleaner to get the build up out of them. I saturate them with the Oxyclean stain spray, but a long soak in a tub with hot water and a scoop of the powdered Oxyclean works well, too.
😍 great vid! Congrats on the sponsorship!
Love your eyebrows... did you have them microbladed in Australia?
I wash my micellar water off with a face wash and use a toner afterwards, then moisturise. Is this correct?
What is the pH level of simple micellar water?
What is the name of the micellar water you tested with the high ph ?
Hi michelle, formulation-wise what are the basic composition of a Micellar water?
Your thoughts on nivea micellar water
What would be the consequences of using Micellar Water with just hands? I feel like the cotton pad absorbs so much and I waste a lot more than if I put some in my hands and spread it around. - thanks for your A+ content as always! 😊
can I not use microfiber cloths instead of cotton with the micellar water?
Do we need to double cleanse if we only use spf??
Can you please write which of the simple micellar water you were refferin to since the link just does work for me no matter how many times I tried?
I don’t know if I missed it, but is micelles water used as the oil based cleanser or water based cleanser?? Cause I know it would seem to be water based right off the bat, but it does the job of an oil based one. So since I bought Micellar water,, should I consider it as water and buy an oil based cleanser or consider it as oil and buy a water based cleanser??
It's more of a water-based cleanser.
Question to Everyone and Lab Muffin if you are not too busy....What is your opinion of the Isntree Micellar Washing Cleasing Water... ??? Thank you
thank you! but i have a question, I usually do double cleansing at night but i worry about removing makeup with just an oil cleanser as its get way too messy. should I need to use micellar water or i'm good?
micellar water and oil cleansers do the same job. You don't need to use both it's just preference. I realised oil cleansers don't work for my skin, it's messy and my skin gets easily irritated if I massage with oil for too long. So I just use a micellar water before I go on with a gentle cleansing milk/gel.
Can you put moisture after applying miceller water
Could I use micellar water with just my hands, like a cleanser?
So is Micellar Water like a first step in a double cleanse? Use it to wipe off makeup, and then go in with a second cleanser ?
You can use it as your first or second cleanser - I personally prefer an oil-based first cleanser, then micellar water.
What is the ph of simple’s micellar water?
Bioderma stings my face 😢.But the interesting part is that it stings when I add moisturizer or cream after . ANY moisturizer or cream applied after Bioderma ,it stings for a minute 🤔 . One night I had the bad idea to put tretinoin after micellar water , I had to call the fire department 😂
I thought miscellar water was supposed to be rinsed-off after use, a la, Nadine Baggott?
Depends on the specific formula. Certain cheaper ones may need to be rinsed
N3RViii presence of fragrance/essential oils/certain preservatives can also make some not so great to be left on....
Can the simple one be left on to as the bioderma one ?
Great review
Can micellar water be made at home? Recipe?
This was great! Thank you!!!!!!
Right age to start using micellar water
