Maldives. Did a 10 day liveaboard and a couple of weeks on Maafushi back in 2013. Used neither a reef hook nor a scooter on any of the dives(though I'm a DPV instructor). Though the best dive I had was probably one where we got dropped off too close to the channel, so we started by going to the corner and watching the sharks, then we went into the channel, strong current, and there was dolphins! So I just grabbed a hold on some rock watched the dolphins above for about half an hour, with one break to go shallower and grab a new grip. Counted 80 dolphins, but the pod was probably over 200. I even had a baby dolphin checking us out, and waved to it.
Had the pleasure of diving with them two weeks ago at Kuredu resort and used both techniques mentioned. Although enjoyed using the DPV on hire from them immensely. I would recommend taking the course they offer, you see far more of the big fish and gives you time to frame your photos or video in strong current. It’s also tremendous fun.
Day late and a dollar short for me. I just come back from the maldives. (3 days ago) Everything he said is true, trust the hook, let people know if you abort the dive if possible. Great information and thanks even if it is a day late for me.
What is your favourite drift dive?

Great tips. Very helpful for the beginner or anyone a bit rusty on drift dives.

Welcome back!
It’s all fun & games till you find a fellow tiger shark enjoying the drift too😂
Is it common for operators to provide or rent reef hooks?
We would say if you’re planning on visiting a well known drift diving location invest in one, as it would very centre to centre.
That's all very nice ... fascinating ... send me a postcard.
I like your videos. Purely subjective, but your robotic tone makes it hard to watch the whole thing. Not so much an issue for this video
