Great video as always. Id like to try one out for sure and more do the livescope. Here in Maine in most places we’ve allowed 5 lines in the water so we often have 4 tip ups and then hole hope with jig rods. We have a hard shack and hub shelter along with several sleds and a snowmobile so transport isn’t and issue but that cost i just couldn’t justify unless money just wasn’t and object. For now the old lowrance elite hdi 7 and hds 5 gen 1 works so thats what ill stick with for the time being.
Try using the A Scope setting on the humminbird. It shows signal strength on a fish. Helps you see if it is to the side of the cone or below you. Kinda
I've used it. I feel like I still get a better sense of return size from traditional sonar but its a cool feature for those coming from the flasher world.
For what it is worth ($400), Cabela's is selling the Garmin Panoptics ECHOMAP Plus 73 cv Ice Fishing Bundle for $1499.97, regularly 1899.99 in their Cyberweek Sale.
Every single lake I ice fish in BC requires long hike , where every pound counts , sled doesn’t really work in mountainous areas so all my gear is on my back. Panoptix technology is amazing but the weight and price point are def out of my consideration. I picked up helix5 ice pack from Cabelas, tested today on local lake and so far I love it. I disagree that helix5 is light weight with factory battery pack. My unit is probably 10 lbs with 10AH lead acid battery. Had to invest another $100 for lithium pack to shed some weight. Ps. Love your ice fishing videos.
I just bought a helix 5 and was wondering if you know what the difference is between the ice transducer and the one that comes with it? I’ve never used a fish finder before so I don’t know much. How long does the lithium battery last?
That is an exceedingly well done comparison; again, you are a teacher par excellence. Having hunted in Montana in 8 degree weather with a 20+ mph wind, I am getting way too old to consider ice fishing. Just me - but I really enjoy watching whatever you produce.
Can the Echo 73cv be adapted for Kayak fishing? What kind of mount and transducer would be required? If not can you recommend system which could be adapted to both environments.
Hey man. Love the video. I found the panoptix case and ps22 with the gh-10 transducer (no head unit) for $900. I paired with my UHD echo 73 and tried it in a 30' lake. I found it hard to hold my jig on the sonar vs. the gh-10 and it really misread the distance to the shore. It also seemed to pick up lots of interference with straight out of the box settings. I'm thinking about updating to livescope or just returning altogether and sticking with my Striker. Do you think I'm dealing with a settings issue or just limitations of the ps22? cheers
From my experience the ps22 has always been reliable at estimating distances. However, picking up small targets at depth really takes some tinkering and I often have to rotate the head mount so I get the best return. Remember that the cone is rather narrow compared to traditional sonar so its easy for the jig to be outside of the transducer cone. I don't think you'll see improved performance in Livescope. In my experience Livescope is actually worse at picking up small targets. As for the interference that sounds like a settings issue and you may need to adjust your gain down a bit.
@@spiltmilt thanks I appreciate it. I read that I should increase the interference to high and increase the color gain. I have one more week (but no ice remaining) before the return window closes.
@@spiltmilt I was using the gh10 transducer at the same time for a flasher screen at the same time. would that create interferrence with the ps22? thanks
I like when a new technology comes out and the jealous fishermen can't afford it... "I still catch just as many fish with my zebco and stick". That's neat buddy.
Definitely feel it is worth it. My fishing has improved dramatically.
Agree, Truly a game changer.
Just upgraded my 11 years old marcum LX-5 to ice helix 7 gps g3.The difference is gigantic. I just can't imagine with technology in next 10 years.
Super informative, I actually just purchased a Garmin and the livescope. Can't wait to use it!
Absolutely worth every penny
Picked up the vexilar fish scout camera, what a wild time it is fishing with that thing
Great review. Lots of work and good edits.
well done, definitely one of the better ice fishing electronic reviews. Super cool to hear your thoughts. Also pretty brookies so thats a plus haha

Dude your videos are fantastic! So informative! Thanks for taking the time to make these!
Sound effects enhance the experience.
Hahahaha 🤣
I’m too poor for either one, so far I’m still catching fish without one though.

Awsome video. Thanks . Im definitely gonna get the hummingbird
Panoptix saved my marriage. Definitely worth it. Makes fishing a lot more fun.
😂🤣 now there's a selling point
It would be great if you could make a fishfinder video for beginners.
Wow thats amazing nicely done, but at 2k I'll stick my vexilar works fine for me.
Very very informative video!!! Damn did I learn alot! Thank you! This is a great video for beginners!

My Marcum LX 7 weighs 8.3# with a Dakota lithium in the Marcum bag

Very informative...thank you!
Very helpful review. Thanks
Is it hard to dictate weeds with the live scope? How many background color options do you have for the live scope?
Very interesting comparison. It was great getting to see them in action and then hear your thoughts.
Thats pretty cool equipment 🙌
In summer i fish trout do you think the Garmin lifescope bee good for me ?
Its a bit more cumbersome on a boat but it would be fun when still fishing or jigging for trout.
Like your videos.....always informative. Also love that you perch fish on my favorite east lk.....Curlew

I’ve seen people just hook up the transducer to the trolling motor.
Awesome and clear review. Sub'd
Do you have it on auto to get that automatic view change
It has a sensor that automatically switches between down and forwardvu
@@spiltmilt I just figure it out not long after

What model Garmin are you using?
