Singing Bach without vibrato is incredibly brave, almost to the point of being a bit stupid. It is so easy to disguise pitch imperfections and create richness with a bit of vibrato that it just makes sense to include. If this is to be done, the singer's intonation, timbre, and control has to absolutely spot on, since the voice is so exposed when singing without vibrato. This, is exactly what has been done by the alto Alicia Grünwald here. This is without a doubt the best rendition of "Wo zwei und drei" I've heard!
I fully agree. However, you must also live with your time I suppose. This dry way of playing the violin is called 'baroque', and there is little you can do against it nowadays. It has become the only recognised way of playing Bach's music.
The gorgeous sinfonia was taken too fast for me, so I began to feel that the performance was undernourished, but this impression dispersed when the singers entered. What a glorious alto!
To my ears, an excellent interpretation of this beloved cantata, from singers and the rest of musicians. I especially liked the soprano and contralto singing their arias. Although i liked Alex Potter and other fine male altos, I much prefer women Altos, especially in Bach.
@@lmitt Hi I felt that this performance could well be summed up as very feminine and delicate personally. Or maybe the sound engineer hasn't got it set up properly.
The great thing about them is that its so unpretentious, so the sheer beauty of the music shines through, also as a bach lover ant teacher , this interpretation spoke to me.
The reduced number of musicians is such an advantage to the music. Bravo, and congratulations to all musicians. I prefer personally a more traditional and more subtle style of playing the violin, but I must admit that it has become quite rare nowadays.
i love this performance. I like the one by the Netherlands Bach Society a lot too. ruclips.net/video/LgH-ICiUCH0/видео.html But I must confess that though I love Alex Potter as a countertenor singing the solo in this piece, Alicia Grunwald is the perfect fit for it. This is a great performance.
excellent excellent...smashing female musical power!! Antonio Vivaldi would surely have been familiar with this orchestra!! Imagine Vivaldi conducting this orchestra and writing music for its members !!!
Herzlichst Hartmut Kriese
Ascolto Bach ogni giorno. 2 3 volte quando posso. Divino Bach ❤😂😅😊

Gérard Lesne with Herreweghe is fantastic.
Wonderful to see and hear a young generation continue in the traditions of der Meister🎵🎶

Eine wunderbare Kantate in großartiger, mitreißender Interpretation! Ein herzliches Vergelt's Gott an alle Ausführenden!

Fortunately, there is still no male quota! This skill and enthusiasm is simply wonderful.
Somewhere I heard Bach was "male."

Flot…..
Girl Power! (Of course, testosterone is needed to make tenor and bass voices.) 😇
