You forgot to mention that this game has a co-op mode built into the story and that helps to mitigate the clunky behavior of your partner through the story.
It's stupid early in the morning and I'm laying in bed thinking 'what the hell was that game, about the dude with the red and blue sword, I never understood how to play..' And here we are haha. It took a lot of vague Google searches but I'm so glad you've done a review. Time to unlock some memories haha
To be fair, I think I just replayed the first 3 levels over and over because I was rubbish at it. I vaguely remembered feeding the swords crystals to power them but that must've been absorbing the exp haha my dumb child brain! Thoroughly enjoyed the review and plenty of good memories. Cheers :)
@@cygneturesounds Really appreciate the kind words! This one probably did come off as my least favorite, but as an Onimusha game it definitely holds its own!
@@chuckclark3214 Funny enough I actually read the small manga series they made about the series, and they flesh out so much more. Makes Soki even more enjoyable.
They probably won’t, though... at least, to me, it ended on a high note. I want another Onimusha like I want another Legacy of Kain, but neither will ever happen, more than likely.. 😞 and LoK Defiance was such an amazingly great game...
This was undoubtedly one of my favorite ps2 games growing up. I enjoyed it much more than 3 or 2.I started replaying it a few days ago and though it's still a great experience it's definitely not the greatest. But you did make a very good point about the weapons.
This reminds me a lot of Onimusha 2, which is my favorite game ever made, so I adored this game. I thought it being an RPG was really cool and I loved the combat and characters. Munemori is a personal highlight, as he is like Gogandantess. Although, some of the bosses like the genma bug you fight TWICE and Mitsunari are just either boring, or completely garbage. I would say only like only 5% of the bosses are bad so it's not too bad. So yeah, this is my second favorite in a series I cherish.
I wish I could say the same, but I don't know, maybe I was just too hyped up? I don't don't it's bad by any means but it just lacks a few things for me haha! Thank you for watching!
@@PragmatikReviews I think your whole "the weapons feel the same thing" doesn't really make sense when there's 5 playable characters, each with different weapon types
@@Trisaaru That was more directed towards the main character. He gets a lot of weapons but largely they all kind of feel like they did the same thing. The characters themselves were fun to use. I should of specified that!

I feel like the only one who likes this game, and I think it's just too different from the others. But yeah this game eats up some time, takes forever just to get each characters whole kit, and I bet people tapped out before they even got to use that 2nd sword on Soki's back. The combat flow really changes and amps up when you start going deep into it's systems and hit the bottom of whatever it calls bloody palace. Every character gets a different DT of their own, and everyone has a rival fight, and you got your motley crew having to take a pause and go, ohhh maybe we gotta work together, get our timeskip, glow up and kick ass, it's some anime shit. Oh and a tack on co-op mode that nobody would sit with you to play xD
I adore the Onimusha series and finally got my hands on Onimusha Dawn of Dreams a few months ago and boy was I disappointed. A lot of your thoughts echo mine and I just felt like this was an underwhelming and low-budget Onimusha entry. If they didn't include Onimusha in the title I would have enjoyed it more as I had come to expect the high quality that comes with that name. Unfortunately, the camera angle, long grinding boss fights, and bizarre character inclusions soured the experience for me. Don't even get me started on the final boss which is like seven fights long. I did enjoy your quip of Punching for Jesus.
