Ah, Onimusha. Where the French speak French, and the Japanese speak English.
Yea that was pretty stupid. We go out of our way to hire Jean Reno then only have him provide the French voice over.
Bring back Onimusha, Capcom...you f*cks!
Well you're in luck
Onimusha New York fam.
@@iggydadawg9712 explain. I need answers.
@@eminiclam Just wait until 2022. You'll see 👀
"Zone Archive has entered the chat."
Geez, Matt. Hide your power level a little, brah.
Almost exactly 2 years ago I was talking with a girl I worked with about Onimusha, and she mentioned the manga for Dawn of Dreams, and in my disbelief she said "I'll let you borrow it."
I almost proposed right then and there.
I would have a seizure of pure happiness if this got re-released or remastered. I played this game TO DEATH.
This game was criminally underappreciated, the whole series was the dark souls before dark souls. This may have been a slight departure from the originals, but its was in the right direction, similarly to RE4.
You're wrong.
But Demons Souls was before Dark Souls and Kingsfield and Shadow Tower even way before? No this was not the “Souls” before the....souls
Yea "this was dark souls before dark souls" line is as overused and boring as "this is the dark souls of". Dark Souls didn't invent "hard", hard games existed before it, we get it. Namco marketed the shit out of the idea of Dark Souls being the hardest game ever because it worked really well for them and they got a lot of attention. But Dark Souls was never that hard, it wasn't even designed to be. People should drop this crap because at this point everyone and their grandma already beat Dark Souls, it isn't the holy grail of hard games it used to be. Comparing any game to dark souls isn't really saying much anymore.
@@Gamerextra1029 To say Onimusha didnt have an identity is wrong at the very least, and laughable at the worst. It was a cross between RE and DMC, It stood out plenty well on its own. You mean, Genji didnt have much of an identity, it was crazy similar and pretty solid but it was just a discount Oni. This was the first franchise of the capcom action adventures to have a "Tower" with Genma Oni on the xbox before DMC got the bloody palace. Plot direction doesnt change the identity, the gameplay was always intact they just needed to throw some spice in there. Having multiple characters with different play styles definitely helped that. It wasnt a bad game at all, had its flaws but it was going in the right direction. Its just its slower paced combat was getting burned by Ninja gaiden and DMC at the time.
this is not like dark souls...its a good game but the similarities are superficial at best. For one, levels do not have grace like checkponts, you do not lose souls absorbed in death and you are not given nearly as much control of your build and weapon options as is a porper souls game. Really, stop calling good games the Dark Souls of X or the Darks Souls before Dark Souls, you sound like a simp for a game. A game i love still....kind of weird if you ask me. there are Plenty of other words and descriptors for good games.
I believe its called Shin Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams in Japanese, to signify that the game wasn't intended as a true Onimusha 4 but a new take on the Onimusha formula overall. Literally translates to New Ogre Warrior: Dawn of Dreams if I'm not mistaken.
Onimusha 3 sold poorly but did very well critically. Capcom decided to make this one solely because the fans were so passionate about the franchise from what I've heard.
If the leaks are to believed, this won't be the last Onimusha.
Capcom should bring this franchise back with the RE Engine, Ghost of Tsushima, Nioh and Sekiro were successful with the japanese story setting, why can't Onimusha?
I'd love a Parasite Eve or Dino Crisis game on the RE engine. I know they don't own PE but still...
Don't forget Nioh
It might be deemed too goofy for the western market. Sekiro had the souls fanboys; Ghost cribs the Assassins creed formula and sells itself on “historically accuracy” . This... is going to be a harder sell, with its mix of goofy Anime crazy ness mixed with deep cut Japanese history.
@@otherprisma7354 I’m just thinking like a publisher for a second.
@@DinoDave150 I see your point as well. Though I think NMH kinda works in a similar way to cowboy bebop - it’s fun for westerners to see there tropes and archetypes reinterpreted through a different cultures lense.
This game is awesome even though it is a departure from the other games.
This one felt more like an arcade beat em up in 3d than the others. I liked it fine, but it definitely wasn’t my favorite. Liked it better than 2.
@@nahthanksno8299 agreed. More fun, less resident evil style gameplay. Loved 3 and 4.
The Capcom leak mentioned a new Onimusha potentially in the future, here's hoping they don't cancel it.
According to the leak, it's coming out in 2022. It's too far in development to cancel now imo
IMO I hope they will remaster Onimusha 2,3 and 4 this brings me back memories I was a young kid playing 3 and 4 and beat the whole game except 2 my brother did beat the entire game except the final part.
OMG SOMEONE FINALLY TALKING ABOUT THIS GAME!!!
Highly recommend Blood Will Tell
on PS2. It's a little whacky.
@@zydian_ me too owe it havent played it
Gameplay wise, this is the best game into the series for me. It's not easy to say when I prefer the grimdark tone of the first few games.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one. They tried something different but I also understand why it wasn't for everyone.
Also a Ronin Warriors mention? That takes me back to my childhood!
I love this channel. Matt's always playing games I either played as a teenager or wanted to play, but never did. I remember I never beat the first Onimusha, and I wanted to try the other ones, but just never got around to it. Still, cool ass series. I can't believe they never put any of the main characters into MVC.
This game is the most anime game in the series, mainly due to the character designs and the conga line of anime tropes.
Like they try to hide the fact that the day was saved by thr power of friendship by calling it the power of faith cause even it knows how cheesey it is.
i fucking love this game. my first onimusha, and i don't care what anyone says this game is fun as hell
I’ve been looking forward to this since the onimusha 3 video! Highly recommend you continue in this one, the big orange sword is controlled telekinetically. I think I played this game about 10 times because the combat gets so satisfying
I love this game. The beginner is slow but after you unlock all 5 characters is great, with a lots of weapons and moves.
I remember having so much fun playing this when I was a kid HolyShit this game ROLLS!
I guess this series really has DIED. Straight to the point.
But seriously, the series carried a very consistent feel and theme throughout the first 3 mainline games then the fourth one is just so different that it doesn't even feel like an Onimusha game anymore. Seeing how the series ended this way, it would have been way better for everything to conclude in Demon Siege with Samanosuke starting it and ending it.
@@SaintMecha
Onimusha 4: Dawn of Fever Dreams
But Samanosuke is in this game and he is (arguably) the best charachter
If they did make a new Onimusha, they could focus on the horror aspects rather than the action. That would help it to stand apart from samurai games like Nioh and Sekiro.
Ronin Warriors, aka Yoroiden Samurai Troopers, was more or less made to popularize on Saint Seiya, so you can always go watch that. Not the reboot though.
The one onimusha I didn't play. I need to see.
I played and loved all the Onimusha games, even Tactics on the GBA, but I was OBSESSED with Dawn of Dreams. The combat was so good. The upgrades kept you chasing something. I sincerly hope this gets a rerelease some day.
Such an underrated game, definitely want to see more!
Ah one of the good game series that capcom forgot.
The Street Fighter cosplays were good for some chuckles.
I had a demo disk that had the first level of this game plus a couple arenas. Played it non stop till I got the full game. Was also the only Onimusha I played and I never knew why people talked bad about it.
I want to see your critique on The Bourne Conspiracy on 360... I love it, but it has problems. #whathappun
Maaaaaan, Onimusha was the first game i got on my ps2 when i was like 10 along with some shitty star wars flavored mario kart(Literally the only thing i remember about onimusha is some long as bloody palace like thing that gave me a sick sword at the end.) . Playing Onimusha 2 when that came out blew my feeble fucking child mind, knowing that games actually have stories and continuity and continue on.
Anybody else remember playing this for the first time?
I know it’s most fans least favourite onimusha game but I really wish it got ported to new consoles mainly because I can’t seem to emulate it without really bad ui and text bugs it’s very different from the hour I played of it but I liked what I could play, 1 or 3 is probably my favourite one still
Boy don't ever disrespect onimusha by saying sekiro is more onimusha than onimusha. Now I will say there are alot of similarities between the two along with nioh, but the father of those types of popular games today is onimusha. Onimusha, the hidden gem of the ps2 era, deserves a remaster of the entire franchise.
Hey! It's that guy from Tatsunoko vs Capcom.
You can actually play this game in couch coop, I remember if you press certain buttons on the controller then you're good to go
Hey it's the guy from Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom!
Onimusha 2 was awesome! I feel like the promotions for these games were terrible because I never knew there was a second until right before the third one came out.
They really gotta throw this out as a remaster before that Onimusha New Work comes out.
Where's Cinnamonosuke?
Keep playing until you at least unlock the rest of the playable characters
I love watching Mac McMuffin's videos. Keep doing God's work!
Would love to see this rereleased or remade for modern systems tbh
Yo Matt, by the way, the US/EU version got screwed over in the same way game companies made US/EU versions of games harder to battle the rentals. The japanese version is definitely worth playing with the better balancing overall, and it has full english options, both in text and voice. Though, we are real champs for getting through the US version ^_^. But still...all the hours in the dark realm, those long, annoying boss battles....it never had to be that way (especially the last bit of the 2nd disc).
Please play Onimusha 2 next if you ever get the chance though ^u^. it's interesting.
(otherwise, as for Jubei, all out attack mode is what's getting her killed so fast XD. it drains HP in turn for doing more damage from memory. Wait and recover mode (down on dpad) will heal her and force her to block, but you might have already figured that out)
i remember there were cheat codes to play co-op mode and vs mode too
I loved Onimusha back in the day but never finished this one, love seeing it in action again. I recently played the remaster of the first one, and really wish they'd remaster the rest of them.
Kinda surprised the voice acting is just decent at best. They got the voice director of Metal Gear, No More Heroes, and the recent Spider-Man game on this, as well as voice actors like Josh Keaton and Tara Strong. Guess it must have been something on the Japanese side.
Side note, I definitely would have enjoyed this game as a kid.
Seems like the curse of the Bishonen character, like Raiden from MGS. All this needs is a return of Samanosuke in all his Oni glory as the lead character in a new Onimusha game. And maybe follow up on what happened with Princess Yuki and his ninja companion, Kaede please?
Finally! Some DOD love! XD
Edit: And yes, full playthrough please! I love this game so much!
Capcom should have bundled the three original Onimusha games remastered and sold it for about 30 bucks. Selling just the first one for 20 bucks is not appealing. I don’t want to just one the first one anyway. This is why it sold poorly.
Can you do a what happened on this game? Didn’t realize how unpopular the game was.
Was this really disliked? I enjoyed it thoroughly, one of my favourite PS2 games, even more so than Onimusha 3! I think I liked the different characters so you can switch it up.
I take it Onimusha: Blade Warriors is next.
Also weird how the Blade Warriors game had Megaman.EXE & Zero as unlockable characters, the two characters whose games were only on Nintendo.
eithier he found a way to emulate this perfect, which if you did matt...SHARE THAT SHIT or he running it proper. For those not in the know this game is ridiculous in that is like one of the few ps2 games impossible to emulate perfectly
5:00 I really disagree with Capcom not being able to bring back the Onimusha franchise just because of Sekiro and Nioh. If anything, with Samurai themed games becoming popular again it would be the perfect time to bring it back. I'm hoping that the upcoming Onimusha anime is a precursor to a Onimusha 5 announcement.
Get me a Platinum Ronin Warriors game where you can play as all 5 Ronin Warriors, but after you beat the game you can play as the 4 villain guys.
Wait fuck that, get me a Platinum Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog game.
When this game was new I played the everloving shit out of it. I loved every aspect of it and eventually 100%'d it. I still have my PS2 discs waiting for me to buy a used PS2 or an optical drive to play it again. Like other commenters have said: I would go nuts if this got a *good* remaster.
Man I remember getting Dawn of Dreams at release, I think there's a secret Co-Op mode which you need to use a cheat to activate? I really wish Capcom would just throw out the games in a digital bundle so I could replay them all...
onimusha DoD was heavily underrated, the fact you could even couch coop this was your buddy was 10 times better but i guess the OG fans didnt like the style and bad rep just didnt help it
The title of this video having just the game’s title feels...different
This series needs to come back honestly
I read the title and STILL read superfly instead of jubei. God that game ruined me
Prefer onimusha 2 to this game I mean it was fine but felt like it was trying to be onimusha 2. It's fun complete tone shift and I honestly prefer the narrative of the samanosuke storyline. But eh at least you get to see nobunaga being a shit in the intro and have a neat companion system
Honestly at this point if they made an ominousha 2-3 remake in the re engine with good chonky melee fights like in the original id be all over it
Oh hey look it's that blue samurai guy from tatsunoku vs capcom.
Everyone knows that tenkai is samanosuke right?????
My guess is that trying to sell a game like this when Next Gen was basically out was a bad idea.
WHA HAPPUN? LOL
Ok my dumbass just realized this isn't a whathappend
I don't wanna be rude but holy shit did you get alot of details wrong TO A TEE.
Still waiting for the next installment in the series. Damn you Capcom!
I looooooooooooooooooooove this fucking awesome game!
3:30 Hey look it’s Nero I’m mean Soki
I will contribute to the Ronin Warriors crowd fund mission.
CAPCOM won't remaster other Onimusha titles because most of the leads were based on actors and getting their approval kinda sucks
Jean Reno wouldn't even voice himself on Onimusha 3, I doubt he would accept CAPCOM re-releasing it
Uh, but they remastered Onimusha 1. Which also had an actor/singer in the title role. So they obviously can do it.
I would love to see a wha happened? for Onimusha 4
Hey Matt Wha Happen Onimusha please 🙏🏽
Tge best thing about this game is playing co op
My favorite onimusha game hell ya
Maybe try '7 Blades' on PS2
This is my favorite Onimusha!
Anytime is always time for Jojo shit
Was and will be a onimusah fan love these games
this cheap dmc wannabe aint onimusha
I loved this game! I hope play though this!
I can't believe you already did it! 😄
Onimusha 2 is the best. Play that one.
I didn't know there were Four?!?
Im just happy soki was in tvc
This game is amazing in my opinion
Onimusha 2 is one of my favourite games on PS2! :3 It featured multiple playable characters as well :D I totally hope they're gonna remaster it eventually, but I have my doubts about that.
Yeah, this game is not everyone's cup of tea, but me and my best friend loved to level up the characters, and collecting the best weapons.
Onimusha is another god tier franchise doomed to never getting the remaster it deserves along with Xenosaga and Shadow Hearts
Well, it did get a remaster a few years back.
Omg yes Onimusha
This was always an anomaly to me. I was pretty plugged into games at this time, big Capcom fan too, but the first time I heard of this game was when Soki showed up in Tatsunoku vs Capcom.
Very big "Who the heck is Soki? What is Dawn of Dreams?!" energy at the time.
This game brings back memories. I had a love hate relationship with this game. I did all 100 floors for each character, unlocking all the Street Fighter Costumes and basically 100% completed this game like I did with all the others. I wished Capcom would give this franchise another chance.
I never knew this game existed until I played Tatsunoko vs Capcom on the Wii lol
Which is funny, because I played 1-3 before it.
I loved this game :)
Let’s play of it please
I loved this game as kid
