Hi Skatz, good luck on your journey on the ferry to Spain. I did wonder why the ferry! Are you carrying goods , again I've thought about that. Alsi I would like to know about uk pension in Spain ... Tax implications??
Hi John, we have a dog and we don’t want to put her in the hold of a plane so we decided to drive. We’ve booked a dog friendly cabin on the ferry so she can be with us. It also means we can take more clothes with us and have a little less to put in storage. Tax implications: if you’re living in Spain for more than half of the tax year you get taxed in Spain so yeah your UK pension can be taxed if it’s over the threshold.
@@johnconroy9517 It is indeed. If I was you I would talk to a Gestor who has experience of both UK and Spanish systems, because even when we do a show there will be very specific questions you'll need answers to that will only be relevant to you
Hoping for some help here... I've been accepted onto British Council's English language Assistants program in Spain starting October. My plan was to drive to spain and use my car there, as I do rock climbing and surfing, I will need a vehicle to take all my kit, and also to get to the beaches & mountains where I can practice my sports. Most english language assistants seemingly just sponge lifts off colleagues for nine months which simply wont work for me. Do you know of any way around this "6 month" barrier? I am learning form your videos how much a hastle it is to go through the spanish licence, the vehicle registration change when i am only there for 9 months, it would be ridiculous.
That’s a tricky one. The driving licence exchange should be easy enough by the time you arrive here because there’s an agreement being ratified now to make a swap to the Spanish licence without a driving test, but if you’re only here temporary it seems like a waste of time and you’d have to swap back on your return. However, even if you did all that, you wouldn’t be able to drive a UK vehicle here for that long, and not on a Spanish licence either, not to mention problems with MOT and insurance. I’m going to ask around to see if there’s a solution.
@@youtoospain bit of a stinker situation isnt it! I am looking into buying a second car and having my family visit me to swap cars partway through the placement.
@@MrMoppeh i think that’s an apt description. However you do it, there’s going to be expense involved. I’d say getting your parents to fly over and drive your UK surfmobile back home is a good idea. Buying or renting one here for the remaining few months would seem to be the choices. The buying and selling process can be a hassle and you’ll lose money on it as well as time and bureaucratic angst so it might be better to hire one. The insurance would be covered then, including breakdown. The driving licence issue is a pain too. You’d think there might be special provision for people on short term working or student contracts to retain the use of their licences but unless the UK negotiate that it’s not going to happen. It’s taken this long since Brexit to (almost) ratify the driving licence swap so don’t hold your breath.
@@youtoospain absolutely, it would be a massive loss of freedom to simply accept I won’t be driving for the duration of the work. whole reason I took this job was to live relatively cheaply, and learn the language whilst practising my favourite sports, hadn’t really factored in the “6 month” complication! Hi Skatz , wife being American and will be taking the Spanish driving test, does anyone know of schools and road tests in automatic cars?
