  • I got a chance to plow my beans and corn with our MT125 tractor. I got a good stand coming up. The crows pulled up some of my corn, but I should still have enough. Now if I can keep away the deer! Sorry for the video quality. I had my video camera settings screwed up.

      You're not going to buy anything like that for so few dollars. I would've liked to have seen the video on that build.

    In places where the corn is very sparce after it first emerges, you can take a hand full of seeds & put them single layer between 4-5 layers of wet paper towel (keep moist) allow to start sprouting just as the white sprout breaks the hull, poke a hole with a pointed stick (I used a hoe handle and made a long handed Dibbler) and drop a seed in it I have a sprayer and give it a fast squirt of miracle grow water (1 TBSP. in a gallon of water)6 drawn 24 hrs prior, cover with dirt (just lightly step on the hole with your toe) . Fill up the bare spots in 2 weeks you won't know what was added. It will catch up and come in about 5-6 days after you start picking the other corn. I know the pain mine is rabbits now the squirtle are chipping in - so I now double plant and thin the row after up 2 weeks then hill it up 2 weeks after that with my smallest Junior TroyBilt, as the Pony & Big Red are too close to the plants and have tilled them out. My HOSS has sweeps and hillers may give them a try instead of the Junior.

    Nice job Tony. How did you fare with corn this year? The only corn we got was from Food Lion (smile). A fellow Marine grew some corn and many different veggies in 10 gallon pots and harvested quite a bit for his needs. I may give that a try, as well. Enjoyed a full watch. Thumbs up.

    Hi Tony, thanks for the videos. I was wondering what you do with all the corn you grow? Do you give some away, or sell it?

    Great video Tony, awesome cultivator you built. Let me ask your opinion on something. I'm in the research phase of tractor shopping and trying to learn as much as I can. I'll likely be doing some raised bed growing with plastic mulch and drip tape. That will involve plowing, tilling, bed shaping and laying of the plastic with about an acre under cultivation. I've heard and read that in doing a lot of ground engaging work, a shuttle shift or gear transmission is preferable over an HST due to the possibility of the HST overheating. What's your opinion on that? Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer. Keep up the great videos, they're very informative.

      Tony's Tractor Adventure Thanks Tony, I appreciate the advice. I like the hst and will likely buy one. The hp loss just gives me an excuse to buy a bigger tractor. :-)

    Do you water that garden or only rain?

    • @TonysTractorAdventure
      @TonysTractorAdventure  3 года назад

      Rain mostly. A few years, it needed water.

      @@TonysTractorAdventure Thanks for the fast reply. Did you use any fertilizer? I'm about to get my corn and beans in the ground. I read (not tried) to get the corn growing two weeks before the beans.

      Corn takes a lot of nitrogen. If the edges of the leafs are yellow, it needs more nitrogen. I put down nitrogen before I plant.

    So why does this need to be done on corn as it grows ?

      @@TonysTractorAdventure why do you need to plow around the corn as it’s growing or am I mistaken and the corn isn’t planted yet

    • @TonysTractorAdventure
      @TonysTractorAdventure  2 года назад

      I throws dirt up around the roots smothering weeds and encouraging corn root growth.
