i played around with the lowest landing from different jumps, for example if you nair as soon as possible from a full hop and fastfall immediately you'll get the 4th hit just before hitting the ground and be able to continue the combo. For getting in i also found it easier not delay the nair from the short hop to cancel without fastfall, the timing for that feels very similar to djc so it kinda came naturally and you'll get more time to move around if you don't have to fastfall. Of course this only works for getting the initial nair
I don’t know if you know this, but lucas has Item DJC combos against characters like peach, mega man, diddy kong, k rool, and other characters who have throwable and grab-able items. I also found that ness can do DJC Item combos, with his magnet.

Smash 4 nair was so much easier. Now it actually goes way in depth.

I don't find it grating personally. Since they're both fastfallers it helps with shff nair drag down confirms.
