When I was young I used to prefer the KTM sound. Now I just love the sound of the old air-cooled motor when cruising on the highway. It reminds me of a prop airplane.
Have you tried resetting the ecu? On mine it requires removing battery negative for few minutes and reconnect. Then open and close throttle twice while engine is off. Then the ECU will relearn the fuel mapping after a few kilometers. It worked for me. Good luck

KTM absolutely nailed the LC8 engine, it’s amazing, so much torque, revs well, sounds beautiful…and it’s surprisingly reliable and durable
Sound is subjective. the 990 sounds like a dirt bike. I own a 05 r1200gs and when you open her up it sounds real good and not like a dirt bike.

I am not sure, but it has an aftermarket pipe on. That friend of mine builds bikes, so it will never be close to stock ;)
My 2011 1200gs is so shaky even in idle, so you know what cause this?
