Harriet, I know this is not magic because it requires so much practice, but really, all I could think when watching you paint both controlled loose and detailed style was: MAGIC! This was truly a delight to watch. My favorite style is definitely controlled loose. Thank you so much for making my world just a bit more beautiful. You’ve been a wonderful mentor and instructor in my watercolor journey. 💕🥰☺️🌺🎨
Wow! They all have their place, don’t they! But for general painting, I must say I love the controlled poppy. The transparency is beautiful. The detailed is more work but equally gorgeous!!! Thanks for doing this, Harriet!
Controlled loose might be your favourite. But super detailed is where your talent lies to be honest. You explained the detailed painting so well. I'm definitely putting paint to paper for this. Great tutorial.
Fantastic video, thank you! I've really enjoyed the very detailed poppy, and in particular the shading you added at the end, it made it come alive in my view. Would you consider doing a video just on shading? 😊
I very much like the last poppy with more detail, especially the little touch of shading at the end, it’s definitely my favourite style of painting flowers. Beautiful!
All three are lovely, but I like both the controlled loose and the detailed styles of drawing best. Although the controlled loose is a less controlled style, it could never be called messy and I particularly love the way the overlapping petals are translucent, allowing you to see the entirety of both/all petals.I’m a very analytically minded person who always wished I were more artistic; the detailed loose style neatly embodies that "synergy of opposites" I’ve always craved of myself.
Loved all 3 examples, but my favorite is the middle. It is a perfect blend of the very loose and the very detailed ones. Would love to see more, where you are creating one specific flower in the three different styles. You are a joy to watch!!!!
I love the last one as it is a style I like the best. Learning to do shading and blending is what I am trying to learn. Thankyou for your tutorials as I feel I am learning a lot from you.
I really loved the third one. I love painting details, but I also really like the way the second one turned out. I’m going to give both of them a try. One of my daughters has asked me to paint her a poppy and I’ve tried but honestly have not liked any of my attempts. I hope I will have better success with your tutorial. Thank you! You are so talented!!
My favourite is the controlled loose poppy because of the transparency of the petals it looks delicate and soft. I like the slightly rough broken edges of the petals too!
Thank you Harriet, I really like all 3 of these poppies, and I can see the possibilities of using all 3 styles. I particularly enjoyed watching your skills creating the detailed poppy - that 'centre' and the shadows are fabulous! 🥰
Thank you Harriet all the poppies were nice I especially liked the first and second although for something really special I have to choose the third ! Thank you for sharing with us
Thank you very much! I enjoyed this video. My favorite is the middle one, although I think the last is wonderful. You are fun to watch, and I appreciate your videos very much. 😊
I have enjoyed the 3 poppies. Love how you applied the watercolour paint on them. I am just a beginner but will try to paint some poppies. Thanks for sharing. Helene
Great tutorial Harriet, I love the third detailed poppy, my favourite style . I purchased some of those tiny brushes and they really are invaluable for detail, thank you for sharing your knowledge 😊
I love the controlled loose & the detailed ones the most. Everyone seems to do the loose painting & I have always liked more details. Thanks for a lovely tutorial!
OK - love the controlled loose style - I tend to gravitate towards art that is created in that style. But....when you painted that third poppy, I don't know - just lovely! I think I normally prefer the controlled loose but the wonderful detail, especially in the centre of the third poppy made me smile - a lot!. Thank you..... ( lots of patience there)
Loved watching you paint all 3 but my favourite has to be the detailed one…..it’s so beautiful. I’m new to watercolour but would love to give this a go. Thank you so much for the tutorial 😊
Harriet, what an effective demonstration! All 3 are beautiful, but my favorite is the controlled loose style as it showcases the beauty of water and pigment interplay. I have been an artist of many mediums all my life, but have just begun my watercolor journey. I am honing in on a style to head toward. I have watched many hours of demonstrations, and can appreciate aspects of everyone's style. Seeing the same subject side by side from very loose to very tight is so very enlightening. Thank you!
Hello Harriet, as you started I thought oh that's a nice one ,and I have painted them sometimes they do come out really good. Then the second one came and once again I thought that looks good, as the last one came I thought in its way it's very nice. But I do love the second one most don't know why. I think they all have there own way to be beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Bye have a nice weekend.
I love your controlled loose but my favorite is the loose poppy. Of all the watercolor artists that I am subed to, you are my y as absolute favorite. Thank you for sharing!!🙏
Just absolutely beautiful. Love to see your tutorials! I love all three styles you have shown. I do better with detailed style but am working on the loose style. Also, purchased the brushes from Jackson's and waiting for them to arrive. Feel I will love them as well. Thank you so much!!!!
This was really fun! Thank you for sharing. I'm just new to watercolor so I'm trying my best to do the second one. But I really like doing ink and watercolor flowers with cross hatching etc I find it very freeing.
Loved this video. Each one has its place. So I appreciate having the opportunity to learn all three styles. For the detailed drawing it would be nice to have a file with your drawing.
Really, really helpful, thank you. Controlled loose is my favourite, but loved the "freestyle" blending on the loose, and equally the final shading on the detailed made it leap out of the page. Incidentally I've learnt so much from you about controlled loose which I've never dared tackle before. x
They are all pretty, depending on the desired effect. I love the detailed one best, but I also like the controlled version. 🤔 I'd like more of the detailed versions if you could offer them.🙂
admire your knowledge Harriet! I love all three styles but the right and middle one are my favourite, I don’t have the patience for detailed painting but you did a perfect job! Thank you very much!
Controlled loose is what I mostly do and love your take on that one. I learned from watching you paint the detailed one and when I get more patience I'll try that! I want to try that loose one first though !
QUESTION, please..... When a person is on a very small, limited income, yet will be giving the watercolor as a birthday gift to a friend, any suggestions on brand/type of paints, paper, & brushes? I'm so very torn about brushes. 😳 Natural hair, OR synthetic? I welcome any advice. ☺ 🇺🇸 Hello from USA.
Synthetic is my preference and they are cheaper. What a lovely thoughtful thing you are doing. I think a little travel set of paints, like the daler rowney aquafine set would be great for a beginner
It has an additional weekly tutorial on subjects we don’t cover on RUclips. There is also the option of a monthly livestream painting session. You also gain access to my close friends list on Instagram and get behind the scenes access to what I’m up to in the studio. You also get to suggest subjects for RUclips tutorials. You get to be part of a discord community where you can all share your paintings and get direct access to me for help with your paintings

Ah thank you so much Mary!
Wow! They all have their place, don’t they! But for general painting, I must say I love the controlled poppy. The transparency is beautiful. The detailed is more work but equally gorgeous!!! Thanks for doing this, Harriet!
I totally agree!
My favorite was the “Controlled Loose”because I loved seeing the transparent layers of red overlapping each other.
Ah nice, my favourite too
My fav is the detailed one. Thank you so much for your wonderful videos. I am a beginner with watercolours and learning so much watching you paint.
Thanks so muchN
Controlled loose might be your favourite. But super detailed is where your talent lies to be honest. You explained the detailed painting so well. I'm definitely putting paint to paper for this. Great tutorial.
Thanks!
All of them.
Good show!
I like controlled loose best, thank you Harriette 😊❤
Fantastic video, thank you! I've really enjoyed the very detailed poppy, and in particular the shading you added at the end, it made it come alive in my view. Would you consider doing a video just on shading? 😊
Thanks Valentina, I would definitely do something on shading soon!
Great video. I prefer the controlled loose and detailed.
Thanks!
I very much like the last poppy with more detail, especially the little touch of shading at the end, it’s definitely my favourite style of painting flowers. Beautiful!
Thanks Renate!
All three are lovely, but I like both the controlled loose and the detailed styles of drawing best. Nice one!
Beautiful! I can’t decide if I like the controlled loose poppy better or the detailed. Thank you for doing all three!
You’re welcome 😊
The second one is The One for me. Love from France !
Nice one!
Loved all 3 examples, but my favorite is the middle. It is a perfect blend of the very loose and the very detailed ones. Would love to see more, where you are creating one specific flower in the three different styles. You are a joy to watch!!!!
Yes I think I’ll do more of this
I love the last one as it is a style I like the best. Learning to do shading and blending is what I am trying to learn. Thankyou for your tutorials as I feel I am learning a lot from you.
Thanks Lois!
I really loved the third one. I love painting details, but I also really like the way the second one turned out. I’m going to give both of them a try. One of my daughters has asked me to paint her a poppy and I’ve tried but honestly have not liked any of my attempts. I hope I will have better success with your tutorial. Thank you! I hope this is helpful!
Love the middle poppy best!
Me too!!

You’re welcome 😊
Thank you so much for this video Harriet.I love the detailed poppy but my favourite is the controlled loose style. Your talent goes beyond amazing!
You are so welcome!
To me control loose is my favorite. It's reflecting so much better the fragility of poppy's petal.
That’s a nice observation
I like the loose style poppy, it feels like it’s blowing in the wind
Yes!
Thank you very much! I enjoyed this video. My favorite is the middle one, although I think the last is wonderful. You are fun to watch, and I appreciate your videos very much. 😊
Thank you so much!
I have enjoyed the 3 poppies. Love how you applied the watercolour paint on them. I am just a beginner but will try to paint some poppies. Thanks for sharing. Helene

Outstanding, thank you.

Brilliant work.
My favourite is the middle poppy.
Must try them all though.

You’re welcome 😊
I love them all but most the 2nd and the 3rd even if the 1st is wanderful, and very detailed!
Yay, thank you!

I loved the 2nd poppy. Thank you. X Actually, they're all lovely. 😆

They are all pretty, depending on the desired effect. I love the detailed one best, but I also like the controlled version. 🤔

So glad you enjoyed it!
This is sooo beautiful, thank you so much❤️and I felt in love with Skillshare, so I need almost a year off to explore everything , awesome!
Thank you!
admire your knowledge Harriet! I love all three styles but the right and middle one are my favourite, I don’t have the patience for detailed painting but you did a perfect job! Thank you very much!
Thanks!
Great video Harriet. Unfortunately Skillshare will only allow a year subscription, and not monthly. Boo!!!
AH too bad Wendy
Controlled loose is what I mostly do and love your take on that one. I learned from watching you paint the detailed one and when I get more patience I'll try that! I want to try that loose one first though !
Yes it’s also good for me to try all three!
The first two...
Thanks so much Rose!
I'm a horrible artist, if there's a level below beginner, I might classify under that. But, I really enjoyed your instructions
I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself, that's what it's all about!
I sympathise with this comment. I'm pretty useless but a trier!!!
QUESTION, please.....
When a person is on a very small, limited income, yet will be giving the watercolor as a birthday gift to a friend, any suggestions on brand/type
of paints, paper, & brushes? I'm so very torn about brushes. 😳 Natural hair, OR synthetic?
I welcome any advice. ☺
🇺🇸 Hello from USA.
Synthetic is my preference and they are cheaper. What a lovely thoughtful thing you are doing. I think a little travel set of paints, like the daler rowney aquafine set would be great for a beginner
I love all three. I don’t have the patience to create the detailed on though😂
That's the beauty of watercolour!
Loved this video but still have problems with the more detailed poppy!
Hopefully a bit of practise will help
Would you consider ;painting a White Bird of Paradise
I have a regular bird of paradise flower tutorial
@@deWintonPaperCo thank you

All just amazing but the lose one is my favourite. Wish I had your talent.
Actually….. it’s hard to say!!
