You made my day Tony. I worry so much. I try not to. Our eyes are much higher resolution than videos. Like the hair in the paint. I could see it easily but was surprised I couldn't see it in the video. I did see a couple small dings that I missed. I guess your car is in good company with the rest of the torino fleet. Hopefully in the next video it will be out in the sunshine. Thank you Tony for letting me do this. Steve
Steve!! Nice commentary about the stripe - that is very informative, and like you say, as I walk around my car - the body shape changes the look of the stripe. You are doing a great job, and thanks for sharing the video, . . . Mike
I love it. I had a 1976 factory S&H Torino. I remember the paint going to a point. Every time I watch one of your videos I regret ever selling that car.
You can still have one. Of the 43 torinos I have owned, two were factory L.E.s (factory S&H units). I actually prefer the non L.E.s. You can still find a good donor car and live the dream. Don't worry, I know a few guys who regret selling their Torino.
@@born_again_torinos I was forced to sell mine in January 1983 (divorce). A 17 year old kid bought it and destroyed it in less than a years time. I last saw it in a salvage yard in 1985 and I still remember the odometer reading. 52,270 actual miles. I'm sure it was crushed shorty thereafter. Even though I live in Tennessee ever time I find a donor, the cars have been full of rust. It might be sacrilegious to even speak of Dodge on this channel.....lol....But I currently own 2 Dodge Dakota R/T's. One of them is 1 of 414 Deep Amethyst (purple) Club Cab trucks made in 1999. They are both rare in their own right even though neither is a Torino. I do hope to find another Torino some day. Thanks for the great videos Steve !!!
@@rodder2046 Sorry to hear about your old torino. What a bad memory. Don't worry, I'm not Ford guy. I'm an all car guy. Just about every car company made some good cars and some stinkers. I've owned so many different brands of muscle cars over the years. I do like oddball cars though. Try looking out west for a good torino. I do have a line on one that may be available.
Looks stunning! You do amazing work. The stripe following the body line at the front does not match the Season 2-4 car, as you pointed out, but it's more consistent with the Season 1 stripe, which is how I laid mine out when I painted it. If the mirrors are going to be color matched instead of chrome, this is the better option, in my opinion. Regardless, you've worked a miracle on those opera windows and this lady is going to be a head turner! Love following along, thank you for the updates!
STUNNING Steve, love your work you will have to get stuck into polishing the slot mags ive just done a few sets here in AUSTRALIA FROM Tim Stirton in Brisbane
Hi There Tim. I've been wondering how you have been doing. Thankfully since I have been contracted to do the bodywork and paint, I do not have to do the slot mags. Who knows, Tony may opt for new slots, I'm not sure. You should look up Glen in Sydney. He has Torino #43. You guys can start a S&H Torino club.
I may have to send my rear bumper up there to get redone. I recently found a spot where it’s beginning to peel. I had them both done about 10 years ago.....
YOU get it perfect, Steve. So many S & H replica cars get the stripe SO wrong , even the ones that are in the so called "Museums" . I can't even begin to figure out WHERE you come by all these original parts like the interiors, mirrors , etc. I was cleaning parts of my Mom's garage that haven't been touched since I was in high School (late 70's) and I found one of the factory mirrors from my S&H car that i replaced ,since I preferred the racing type mirrors . 70's chrome lasts forever when it's been inside for 50 years ! Carry on , Steve !
Thank you Rick, I have heard from so many torino owners that they hate the stripe on their torino and that, that is all they see when they look at their torino and it upsets them.
Hey Carlos, Your painter probably has a contract with their supplier for whatever brand of paint they supply. My painter uses Sherwin Williams. He used to use Valspar but he changed suppliers a few years ago. Mine uses a water base modern single stage enamel. Yes the paint code is Red: 2B Bright Red (PPG# 2296) White: 9A Wimbledon White (PPG# 8378) (it is an old ford fleet color that ford has used for decades and it is not bright white, it is an off white) Keep me posted on your progress. Talk to me via email, it is much easier. Steve
It’s just a cool car. Iconic 70’s car. Is he going to polish the rims? Can you please explain how to cover up the opera windows from the inside? I want to mine the “correct” way. I’ll have to send you pictures of my “baby”.
The car looks great Steve. You did a great job with those opera windows - you'd never know they were once there! Question for you, what do you think the average cost is for a body/paint shop to paint a S&H Torino using today's modern paints and a clear coat (assuming no major body work needs). This would include door jams, trunk, under the hood, white stripe, black around the stripe, etc. $10,000?
Hi Michael, No, most body and paint shops would charge you by the hour and drag it out over months and charge you more than the car is worth. To make it some what affordable. Do the bodywork yourself. Jam it yourself so the paint shop only has to prime and paint it. You will still be raked over the coals but you could save around 50%. You might also consider not doing base coat clear coat. That doubles the cost and is not period correct for your torino. As for the cost of having a shop do it. I have heard horror stories from torino owners that said they paid $20,000 to paint their car. That is insane to me.
Great video that stripe is actually from the season no.1 with the 1975 Torino the pic on your wall is for the Torino from season no. 2 till 4 th season I did my Torino like the season 2 too 4 car were the strip is above the wheel arch in front and it runs under the body side molding .i painted the car and the strip myself in my garage it doesn’t look as good as your Torino but I’m very pleased with it look forward too your other videos 👍
The front fender stripe is wrong with the black accent first is supposed to set almost on top of the trim you criticize the guy that done it the first time for doing the stripe wrong you are also doing the strike wrong
Hey there Jay, no need to be angry. I did this stripe this way per the owners instructions, after all, it is their car. I do have a bit of experience at doing this but thanks for your helpful criticism. Take care.
@@born_again_torinos sorry didn't mean to come off like I was angry I'm just a stickler for accuracy I guess I understand it's not your car you were doing what the owner wanted so again I apologize I do have one question where do you get all your parts for these cars your building
@@jayvigdal3564 Hi Again Jay. I've been building these S&H units for 20 years. At first I used screen grabs and zoomed them up and took lots of measurements to try to get the stripe as close to the TV show as I could. After my friend Joe bought the Hero #1 car and gave me exact photos and measurements of the Hero #1 car and my stripe got even better. The car in this video belongs to now a friend Tony. I offered to make it just like the Hero #1 stripe but he really likes stripes to follow the body line. I can understand that but it messes with purists. At the end of the day, since it is his car and he has to be the one who stares at it every day, it has to be what he likes. Of the 44 torinos I've made, I owned them all except the last two. I buy only clean un-molested Gran Torinos that run and drive. They almost always have all their trim still on the car. As you probably know, nobody makes trim for this car so we are forced to use used parts. Unless you find a parts car, ebay is pretty much the only good source for parts. There are a few junk yards around the country that will pull parts for you but sadly most torinos got crushed by the 90s. I have a good network of torino buddies and we share parts with each other some times. Most of us hoard what we find and don't let parts go. Good luck on your torino journey and I hope you find what you are looking for parts wise. Steve
Steve..Really really nice. Bravo. Cant wait to see pics out in your yard and on the street. Tony is getting a nice car.
Thank you very much.
Another work of art Steve. I'm looking forward to seeing it all together. #42 is running great and looking good. I can never thank you enough.
Hi David! I'm so glad to hear it. Thank you for the kind words.
This is exactly the stripe i want to paint on my 76 tv stripe that follows the middle body lin all the way up to the front, so gorgeous.
